Marble & Grain
The simple philosophy of Marble & Grain is to look at the classic elements of European Steakhouses and deliver them in a modern form. Created by the award-winning Australian architecture firm, Paul Kelly Designs, Marble & Grain covers two distinct spaces. The first is the bar area, featuring high tables and stools, as well as a row of low tables that take full advantage of the extensive bi-fold windows without blocking the view of those gathered around the beautiful marble bar. Exposed concrete walls create a contrast to soft leather seating while presenting a matte surface that plays off the polished brass highlights within.
- Surfaces sanitised between seatings
- Common areas deep cleaned daily
- Digital, disposable or sanitised menu provided
- Sanitiser or wipes provided for customers
- Limited number of seated diners
- Distancing maintained in common areas
- Extra space between tables
- Sick staff prohibited in the workplace

Great to have the same waiter the whole time who was very attentive and polite. Nothing took to long to come out and there was a good amount of time left between entree and mains and also enough time for us to start having our meals before being asked our thoughts. The food was delicious, just would've liked red wine jus! Will definitely be back!
We had a lovely night at Marble and Grain. The highlights we're the Truffle and Provolone Arancini and the M&G Creme Brulee. The wait staff were attentive and helpful. We would go back again
First time there and I was very impressed. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious. Will definitely return again soon
First time dining as will be coming back soon! All food was amazing
Bought some fiends here for the first time after bragging and did not disappoint! (Of course!) my friends and I enjoyed every course we had throughout the night. Thanks so much!
Steak selection was relatively limited for a steak-centric restaurant. Meat was fairly good. Staff were pleasant.
We had high expectations and the food fell very short. Service was great waitresses were attentive and doing their best. My husband and I both ordered the prime rib eye on the bone, medium rare expecting a large juicy flavoursome meal. I even checked if I could take the leftovers home thinking at 400g I wouldn’t be able to finish it . We were given some wicked looking steak knives and eagerly waited. After a half hour wait we received a medium sized steak underdone and discovered the knives were so blunt it wouldn’t have cut butter. Not only were the steaks small, not particularly juicy or flavoursome but my husbands was practically blue. We did not want to wait another half hour or have his steak put back on the grill longer after it had rested so we ate what we could and left. Waitresses did their best to appease but it wasn’t their fault. Maybe we just caught them on a bad night which happens but I really hope this review helps them to lift their game and please sharpen your knifes. With all the amazing reviews I was surprised and confused that it was so disappointing. It’s steak, it should be easy, get a good product cook it well and serve.
The food was outstanding!! And omg those cocktails!!Would definitely dine here again. And definitely will recommend to other people!!
Although we felt quite rushed and didn’t get to relax , but I understand the pressure with the COVID at the moment.. the poor staff seemed stressed too.. can’t wait for everything to get back to normal and I will definitely be back! Thankyou
Beautiful place. Love coming here. Great service. Amazing food
It was Intermittently cold in the restaurant, not great on a chilly Canberra evening. Food was very good. Service attentive early and then tapered off. Overall it was good and we intend to go again. In summer.
Ordered the Beef Tenderloin (as did my husband), it was quite chewy. The waitress was great. Service good. Unfortunately though, as with most restaurants during Covid-19 we did feel a little rushed to leave even though it was a weekday and there did not appear to be anyone waiting to be seated.
The service was lovely and the food was fantastic
Excellent food, especially the steak, staff members well trained in recommendations and excellent service.
It was my partner's birthday and we're both big fans of steak so we booked a table. Our waiter was pleasant and attentive, but always unavailable when it came to order, which meant we had to order from food runners. As lovely as all the staff were, there were a few communication issues. Coffee came out after we had finished dessert, our waiter came back to clarify our main, and a runner offered to get us to bill despite there being dessert spoons on the table. We ordered the charcuterie board, a midwell ribeye, and the arancini. All were excellent in presentation, but I confess that the arancini and ribeye didn't live up to the expectation. I couldn't taste any truffle in the arancini, and despite choosing the rib eye, it wasn't as marbled as I thought it would be. By no means did this ruin our night, the sticky date pudding was incredible and the overall experience was pleasant. I just write this review because I expected more. I wanted to learn something new about the steak, I wanted to be sold on a wine pairing so good that I'd buy a bottle, I wanted to promise my waiter that I'd be back with friends because I had such a good time. I hope this review is the one that prompts the restaurant to educate their staff and polish up on their table etiquette, because I think there is a lot of potential to create a memorable dining experience.
Food Was Delicious and worth every dollar. Would definitely go back again
We celebrated a late anniversary. Amazing dinner and service.
I dined here for an early anniversary dinner during my weekend trip in Canberra. The waitress I had was so wonderful and lovely, and she made the experience much more enjoyable!
We ordered the steak tartare and steak tasting board. The steak tartare was under par, there was quite an overwhelming amount of onion in there which overpowered the overall taste. The garlic toast was really stale and hard to bite through.
We ordered extra bone marrow, added black truffle shavings and mushroom sauce on the side to our steak tasting board and it was such a great meal to have. I was getting quite full so I wasn’t able to finish off everything on the board with my partner but I would definitely visit again!
Bench seat area is the most comfortable and well away from the busy kitchen area and entrance. The food was beautiful, tender steak, lovely salad, perfect.
The food was amazing, we had an extremely great waitress and she helped us out with our food! She did an amazing job and deserves credit for how hard she works. I’m unsure of her name sadly but we will be sure to come back, specially because of how good she made our service!
Delicious steak, cooked perfectly medium-rare and smothered in amazing truffle butter. Perfect.
It was a great experience, lovely staff and delicious food. Would definately recommend a visit.
Yummy food as usual and friendly staff😊
Hope to have the share steak menu back soon. So that I / we could taste different steak in one go.
Good food and good friendly service. Enjoyed the meal.
Tables had not been cleaned. Placemats placed on top of dirty marks on table ... had to ask force table to be Cleaned
Very enjoyable night with two very well cooked steaks and good service
Very friendly staff. Food from starter to the main was brilliant really enjoyed it will definitely be back again soon
Always great food and M&G never disappoints - the steak and scallops were to die for! Limited menu due to COVID which meant we missed out on our favourites and that was OK. Service was lacking, the waitress walking around putting her up and playing with her hair was not the greatest look. It wasn't just a fix up and be done with - it was a flip my hair over in full view that was not pleasant.
Overall a good experience staff very friendly and professional at their job. Our only complaint was the table we were sat at was near the door and it was freezing given there were other tables available maybe those should be a list choice especially when you made a booking and not walk in
Had a wonderful evening out. Service excellent and unobtrusive. Consideration for our delayed arrival. Enjoyed a tenderloin and sirloin with a side of greens which was easily sufficient for two. Would recommend to anyone for a decent steakhouse experience. Parking in the underground carpark of the Hotel in the same building made for a seamless arrival and departure.
Food was good. Price wad good. Service was slow but we'll mannered. Lucky we weren't in a rush.
Really good food and the staff were attentive and friendly but not over bearing. It is a bit expensive but the quality of the food and service was proportionate to the cost.
Told By friends Marble and Grain had best steaks in Canberra. Did not disappoint.
Absolutely amazing food and cocktails!
Good ambience and attentive staff. Recommend definitely getting extra sides.
Really enjoyed the dining experience. Good value for the food . Just a suggestion adding a steak dish in the kids menu
Great food and service would definitely go there again.
Food was 1st class. We enjoyed our steaks and the wine selection was great. Love how you can select local wines to enjoy with great produce.
Always a favourite! A standout dining experience in Canberra.
