Not what we expected, number one hint (Friday Night ) only one other couple having dinner, food took forever and everything was overpriced
Very disappointed, poor food.
Fui con un compañero de trabajo a comer unas tapas y tomar unas cervezas, desgraciadamente la experiencia fue muy mala, nos pusieron una tabla mixta de jamón y quesos que sería difícil de definir, el jamón ibérico, dudo que lo fuera, espantoso, sin sabor y duro, los quesos muy fríos y sin sabor, las patatas bravas mal cocinas y etc., toda una decepción, no sé si tuvieron un mal día o no tenían existencias... pero no puedo entender lo que nos pusieron. Bonito sitio, bajísima calidad de la comida servida, toda una decepción.
Celebrated a friend’s birthday, food was great, lots of tapas to share, and service was excellent also
We were celebrating two birthdays! We order a seafood parrillada to share for four and it was delicious and great portions! Highly recommended!

We decided to try this restaurant on Valentine's day. The prixe fixe was actually pretty good since it included a glass of bubbly and 3 courses for $60. The appetizers were very good. The camarones al ajillo were 8 good sized shrimp deliciously prepared in garlic sauce. That was almost a meal in itself. The veal was also very plentiful and delicious. However, the steak entree was not seasoned at all and the risotto was awful--tepid and just not tasty or properly prepared. Had the owner been paying attention to what was going on in the kitchen (quality control?) and greeting new customers, whom she seems to snub and be oblivious of, rather than devoting all her time to 2 tables with her personal friends, everyone would have had a better experience. Wait staff could not have been nicer (they tried really, really hard) but they were obviously short staffed--it was a very busy night, and the owner made no attempt whatsoever to help her staff, rather, demanded things periodically for the two special tables, when wait staff could barely provide coverage to customers waiting for their food or bill. At least two patrons angrily went themselves to get their checks squared away, something other restaurant owners routinely handle to help out--customer service starts at the top. We doubt we will return.
We went to the grand opening of this place months ago and loved it. We decided to take abuelo for his 81st birthday this past Saturday and truly was disappointed. First and foremost the restaurant was dead at 3 pm and only 2 servers in the restaurant. We waited 20 minutes sitting down alone and no one came to acknowledge us and not even serve water. I had to stand up and find a server. ( the whole time the restaurant manager was sitting at the bar or smoking outside) this is horrible business practice. After 25 minutes the Sever came to the table. Mind you he had no idea what was even on the menu. We asked for croquetas de Boletos con trufas as the menu stated and he had no idea what we were taking about. It is very sad that you go to the high end restaurant and pay over $250 for a lunch of 4 guests and the server had no idea what was on the menu. The restaurant is beautiful, the food is delicious but the service and staff truly are horrible. I do not think I will be going to this establishment again. Better staff needs to be hired if you want to keep with the status and vibe of the restaurant.
The food was adequate but there does not seem to be anything authentically Basque in the entrees or in the personnel or in the decor. It seemed like just another Spanish restaurant.
We got there early 7:15pm they sat us but we didn’t get our appetizer till 8:45pm our food arrived at 9:45pm we left at 10pm. I told waiter multiple times what was taking so long and that when the main course arrived the food was dry I got up to speak to manager. Only waiter apologized, manager never came to speak to me, nothing was offered as an apology. We spent $384, for 6 people. Food took forever, we had to ask for bread, croquettes where cold mariscada which cost $150, was dry and tasteless. Very disappointed!!!!
I have been to this restaurant before and my previous experience was great but last night was such a disappointment. It was the first Friday of the month so it was busy. From getting seated which took at least 45 minutes with reservations to getting service at our table was exhausting...We were a party of four and it took them 2 hours to serve our diner. Not to mention numerous times getting up to find some one to come o our table and take our order , take our drink order bring us water and so on.
It was my idea to go to Mara and I was very disappointed will not be back anytime soon and my friends they will not be returning
What a disappointment! We went to this place following a review on one of the Coral Gables magazines which described it as a Basque experience. It was more of another Latin place which claims are Spanish. The food was flavorless and insipid. None of the dishes we ordered were of quality or taste. The croquettes sample, was the only thing that was somehow acceptable. The risotto and the black rice with shrimp were dull, as well as the codfish “a la Vizcaína” and the oxtail. We were so disillusioned that passed the offer for dessert and had our coffee at home. Maybe it was not a good night for the chef.
A local gem. Wonderful food and excellent service. Be prepared to wait for the paella, if you order it, but it's worth the wait.
Unfortunately we went on New Year’s Eve and had a set menu, hence no chance to experience the real menu. The menu was way too much for a dinner as it had three appetizers and then a main course. The portions of the main course were hyper generous so much so that even my two young adults (sons) were not able to even eat half of the portion.
The waiter a guy from Argentina was very personable and made the night quite enjoyable, certainly made it more agreeable hence the higher rating.
Great Spanish food. Staff is kind and friendly and will go to any length to please you. Large portions. Chef will customize anything you need.
La ocasión fue aniversario de bodas. La pasamos muy bien , la comida muy sabrosa y la atención magnífica en especial Sebastián que fue el camarero que nos atendió súper atento.
Con gusto repetiré la visita a MARA.
Overall it was ok... the food was over priced for what you get. It was good, but overpriced. The location is excellent but they need to improve the ambiance. The music was horrible - an organist is probably not the best choice.
Good basque foods. Codfish and lubina are very good entrees. Needs to offer better desserts.

Music was too loud for a small space. Not a great place if you want to chat with friends. Definitely not good for an intimate dinner. Be ready to speak loudly to your companions.
Phenomenal locale. An upscale option and the Salt-baked fish may be the best fish I have ever tasted in my 40 years!!!
Excellent offering of traditional Basque cuisine. The octopus and potato appetizer was outstanding. Service is very good; attentive and pleasant. Somewhat difficult to find driving although our Uber driver got us to within throwing distance. We will return but will request that the chef go a little easier on the salt.

Did enjoy evening. Place is on one hand new but nonetheless clean an elegant. Service generally very good and cordial staff. Food nothing to rave about though. Pork belly so-so. The "tortilla Vasca" was very good. The cucumber martini was very good.
Would tell friends not bad to go an enjoy but not to rush for the food.
Tapas we ordered did not compare to other Basque cuisine restaurants but the Cod was delicious

This was my second time at Mara - the ambiance is fantastic. The gazpacho delicious. The paella not so much, as the calamari was over cooked.
Place is nice, and location is perfect. Service was really good and the quality of the food... Outstanding! Congrats to the chef! And don’t forget to try the white wine Sangría!
We all had seafood and everyone loved what they had. All the plates were cleared at the end of the meal.
Brought 7 colleagues here for dinner. Food was excellent. Service attentive but not overbearing. Bar service could use a little more focus. Will be back here every time I’m in town.
Nice decor, great service, wonderful cuisine. The only disappointment was that they didn’t have any Basque wines, specifically Txakolina, which would have been a wonderful complement to their cuisine.

Service seems to be disorganized. Small and overpriced main courses. Basque cuisine should be one of the best in Europe but, we got dissapointed with the experience at this restaurant. Not recommended.
