To honor the changes of the season in the garden, Maple dishes up soul-warming American cuisine informed by classic technique, market-fresh produce, and subtle Latin inspirations.
Overall it was a nice experience, but the hostess was very rude because we had a few less people from our reservation show up. I apologize if it was inconvenient, but she got an immediate attitude and sat other people before she sat us when our entire party was ready. Besides her, maybe having a bad day? The waiter was really nice, energetic, and had a lot of patience with our large group. Everyone else was friendly and helped us when we needed something.
Prior to our stroll through Descanso Gardens, we decided to have some breakfast at the restaurant located on the grounds - Maple. Service was initially slow; however, the waiters courtesy and attentiveness made-up for it. My family enjoyed their brunch meals! The price is very reasonable for the quality of food, ambiance and service. We’re definitely coming back!
A very nice restaurant located at the entrance of Descanso gardens. Food is really good and service is always impeccable. Great menu and drinks, I would highly recommend it and you can go for a walk afterwards into gardens. It’s a win win brunch place!
Overall, as bland and mediocre as the community in which it is located. There is absolutely nothing special about this place, and when seated, there’s no way to tell that you’re even close to one of the most beautiful and serene parks in SoCal. Food is only OK, it has horrible acoustics, and the drinks cost more than the entrees. It is not worth the effort...don’t bother. IHOP would be a better choice than this place. Certainly, a better value!
The food was great. I had the lobster cups.
The menu said it came with toasted bread however, both the kitchen and the server didn't seem to notice.
I asked the server, she said no it didn't. Then I asked for a menu and she said oh, it does.
Then she had to go back and remind the kitchen.
We had a great first time at Maple celebrating my mom's 70th birthday. They brought out beignets on the house for our table and I thought that was a nice touch. Great food and service. Will definitely be back.
Food and location are absolutely divine. Our server was very kind, accommodating and lovely as well but we had some trouble with our visit:
1. We ordered steak and eggs, a lobster salad, a tomato toast, cold brew and an iced tea. The lobster salad and cold brew came out quickly followed by the tomato toast. It wasn’t until these two meals were already devoured that we were told the kitchen never received or steak and eggs order but that they would be bringing it out ASAP. When they did, we still hadn’t received our iced tea. I basically watched my boyfriend eat his steak and eggs and drink iced tea while I twiddled my thumbs.
2. One of the servers was nice enough to offer us complimentary beignets. But to be honest, if they really wanted to do something for us, the steak and eggs or the tomato toast should have been taken off the bill. We never “cashed in” on our beignets because we didn’t have room for them and dietary restrictions currently prevent us from having treats anyway.
3. What’s the point of OpenTable allowing me to say it’s my boyfriends birthday as a note on our reservation if nothing happens when I do? No mention of it at all when we arrived. Nothing. Really made the experience lackluster.
First time here. And last. The only reason to go here is if you’re already visiting Descanso Gardens. And even then, it would be better to dine elsewhere. Not at all like the photos on their website. Substandard from start to finish. The only highlight was a nice server. Otherwise, very disappointing.
A bit pricey for small baby grayish brown potatoes and sausage a bit undercooked (mushy texture with a bit if pink showing). The jam was excellent.
Great time! Food was amazing.
FREAKING LOVE THIS PLACE. The chef has created a spectacular, multi-layered culinary experience and the service was insanely attentive. We went here on a whim for brunch and were blown away by the food, the service and the atmosphere. We will be back again and again and again. DO NOT TELL ANYONE ABOUT THIS PLACE!!!!
Food was great, drinks were good and service was good. Large party in the middle... kind of a bad spot for them. Otherwise, great brunch location.
This is a wonderful restaurant in the lovely gardens. Food was very good and fresh. We did go on a Sunday so I made a reservation, which was a good idea. It was pretty busy that day. Staff was friendly! I will be going back in the spring when its cooler to walk in the gardens.
Poor service. Food took too long.
I wrote in my reservation that I was celebrating a friend’s 50th birthday & nobody acknowledged this at all which I couldn’t make an issue of at the time since I didn’t want to say anything in front of the person I was there to celebrate but I was definitely disappointed. The eggs were a bit overdone for over medium, the beignets were very good. The churro pancakes were too dry—& way more like funnel cake. It’s a beautiful setting but some things need to be addressed. They very much need to do what other nicer places similar to their price point and even above and under do with regards to celebrating birthdays...so sadly unless this changes I wouldn’t recommend it
Our waitress and food were great!
Not sure why the interior decor was changed.
A rather large party with a toddler were having brunch at the same time. To occupy the toddler someone had given her an electronic device that made music. It was rather loud and the staff said nothing to them about lowering the audio. I realize every where is a family friendly place these days, however, there ought to be a level of respect for all patrons. I did not go to Maple and spend a fair amount of money on the bill and tip to hear a distracting soundtrack.
Sorry, this is just the way I feel. A common courtesy ought to be implemented for everyone's satisfaction.
Healthy delicious food with kind and caring management and staff
You want to celebrate a special occasion, big or small? Well this is the place!
The menu is so diverse and innovative, and every dish is made to perfection. You will have nothing to complain about, here.
And reservations are available. 3 👍👍👍
Again a wonderful visit and fab service from Uriah and his staff. The espresso toast was to die for and the eggs Benedict was lighter than expected fresh fare and perfect choice after a summer walk. Thank you!!!
Very interesting menu, healthy and modern
Best weekend breakfast around
Maple Restaurant is a great enhancement to Descanso Gardens. Reservations are fairly easy to get. The dining area has open air and an enclosed area but be aware that the large windows and doorways leave it open to the elements. Every time we have dined, the staff have been exceptionally attentive and the food tasty and fresh. There is a children's menu so you can have your avocado toast while your kid enjoys a child friendly meal. Combining a meal with a stroll through the gardens makes for a lovely family friendly outing. (Don't forget to get your train tickets before you head into the park.)
The service was great! The food was delicious. It was a great place for brunch.
Had a beautiful brunch - egg white with lox fritatta and berries with cream. Very attentive service and great atmosphere! Love that I can enjoy a gourmet meal in such a wonderful location as Descanso Gardens. I always favor any Patina restaurant, amazing menu and experiences.
Toast and muffin were burnt. Was never offered another mimosa or drink. Food was on nothing special.
Service was great, was a bit noisy because of concrete floors, next time I will eat outside. But was very pleasant way to spend a sunday morning, will recommend it to everyone.
Great atmosphere and service. The avocado and berry toasts were a blast!
I came in with an open mind, and I came out with a closed mind. I’ve never been so astonished by the gourmet breakfast in my life. Considering i’ve only lived for 13 years but your girl has been all over the country. The energy and the overall attitude of the employees was very pleasing. My waiters name was Tony, and I absolutely think he deserves a raise. Everyone was so kind and not judge mental of my food choices. I ordered the beignets and man was I head over heels! I recommend the avocado toast and the beignets. The food was amazing too, perfectly made, no doubts about it. Overall I was very pleased and can not wait to come back again with friends.
Great service and decent foods overall. I would love to visit the place again.
This was my first time there for lunch. I was wowed by the food and the excellent service! I highly recommend having a little celebration there for sure. The manager was gracious and the servers very friendly. It was my sister's birthday and they went above and beyond to make sure our little party was happy.
Always good food and enjoy coming here. Nice environment and friendly staff.
Have been to Maple Restaurant several times during past year or so. The first time I ordered the rib platter and it was delicious with a generous portion of ribs, eggs, potatoes and this incredible corn pudding. On 6/23/19, my last visit, I again ordered the ribs and was sorely disappointed. They only included two smallish ribs (about 5 or 6 bites of meat), two eggs and all the rest was potatoes with peppers. I basically paid $22 for a bunch of potatoes. Will never order this again. So disappointed because it had once been so good. It’s as if they’re trying to skimp as much as possible. Don’t know if they have done this downsizing to cheapest ingredients with their other dishes but definitely not impressed. I only gave 3 stars because the flavor of the food was good and our waitress was very attentive and sweet.
Eggs Benedict was excellent as advertised. Stella was “reassuringly expensive” per the old TV ads, but $9 a bottle??
Made reservations for Father’s Day. Only down side was wait was 40+ mins with a reservation but probably because it was Father’s Day. Restaurant compensated by giving everyone who was waiting champagne so that was nice. Server was awesome and attentive. She came to speak with us several times and was very friendly. The food was great.
Ruined our Father’s Day.... While we were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation time, everything else moved in slow motion. Over 45 minutes from when we ordered to food arriving... Just not okay. Though I’m always conscious of large parties on a holiday, our experience for a party of four was awful. The same manager in a whale shirt kept figure-eighting around the restaurant, not once did he notice that we’d been sitting there for forever with no food. My husband had to get up and talk to the hostess before anyone even acknowledged us. Another manager came and comped our drinks. Our waitress didn’t even check on us... Just horrible. So bummed after making our reservation a month in advance in the hopes of a relaxing lunch in a small-format restaurant. Instead, a disappointment.
Patina, you can do better.
We were greeted with a smile so that’s a plus...our server was super friendly and nice...we were seated outside where it was actually warm because of the
Service was awful. Staff isn’t trained.
The only thing that would have been nice is a view of the gardens. Our waitress was very attentive but the others, bus boy and other would only ask if one person wanted coffee and ignore the other and same with bussing the table.
Our server was nice, but a little mentally checked-out. The food is good, but it a tad pricey. The servers and staff don't seem happy - and this is based on our observation of sitting near the bend where food is brought from the kitchen. Things we loved are the décor, chai latte and the bacon.
