The new Mamma Melina, occupying the south end of the Corydon Apartments near University Village, has more in common with the Varchetta's stylish Barolo downtown.
On a summer day you'd think it was Rodeo Drive and not the Burke-Gilman Trail that runs alongside the broad front patio. Amid shallow pools holding silver globes that glint in the sun, beautiful people in oversized sunglasses sip wine on thickly cushioned sofas or sup on house-made pasta under canvas umbrellas at white-clothed tables.Price points are moderate and the cooking is assured.
Gnocchi al Gorgonzola
Gnocchi, chef tim's homemade Italian sausage, gorgonzola, cream
Ladyfingers soaked in espresso, Kahlua, amaretto and layered with mascarpone cheese
Spaghetti, pancetta, egg yolk, pecorino
Good food, friendly staff, reasonable prices, outdoor seating
Super consistent, great food, awesome people! Definitely a staple in our family.
Th food is always always excellent. It is a lovely place to dine outside, particularly now with the COVID virus. Th service is friendly and informed.
Great food. While we were there, a homeless man asked for water and food and the service team gladly gave him some water which was very nice to see.
Requested an outside table and was told upon arrival that it would be 30+ minutes to be seated outside. Disappointed, it was a beautiful evening outside.
the food was excellent, and the attention to Covid-19 was committed. We sat distanced outdoors, and the service was poor, and the "manager" who served us was arrogant and dismissive.
Love it. Love it. Love it. Love it. Love it. Love it.
Amazing food and patio
Went for my anniversary!! Excellent service and food as always
It was a birthday dinner with friends and the staff made it as memorable as possible considering all the restrictions we have in place due to the pandemic, I loved my server, Sara, the food was delicious and the staff paid just enough attention to us without being overbearing. It was fantastic.
My pasta was very oily and my shrimps, only 3 was very small. Otherwise the rest of my family’s meal was very good. We had a lovely social distancing lunch and felt safe with the pre-cautions taken by the restaurant.
Great service, great pizza, and loved the pasta! Will return.
So, so good! This was our first time eating at Mamma Mellina’s and we will be back. The food was excellent and the service was superb! Thanks for a great evening!
Visiting with my daughter who just moved to Seattle. Wonderful service & pleasing menu for all. This restaurant checked all the boxes with delicious cocktails, appetizers and entrees.
Great service, ambiance, and food! Make sure and grab an outdoor table if available
The food is always prepared perfect and delicious. Service is probably the best in this area.
Annie was out server. She was so sweet and recommended a delicious dessert!
Everyone was happy with their selection. Delicious flavorings nice house wine. Beautiful clean dining. Our waitress was very attentive. We'll be back
We just wanted to sit and have a cocktail after months of not being able to. It was for our anniversary
This is our favorite local restaurant. The food is great, best happy hour deal in town, and the people are great. They know us and treat us as friends. Bravo!
Food was outstanding as always and service was impeccable. We felt very
comfortable dining here with covid restrictions implemented and at 25% capacity the noise level was delightful.
Appetizer was good, the desserts were outstanding. The beef entree was dry and overcooked for medium. The broccolini looked bedraggled and the mashed potatoes were tepid. The plate just looked messy. The focaccia was tough, maybe day old? Have had stellar dinners in the past, this wasn’t.
The pasta was perfectly al dente and dish was delicious. Everything was done very well. Our wait person was attentive and excellent!
We had the razor thin beef carpaccio and it melted in your mouth with a hint of truffle oil.followed by a light salad with butter lettuce and goat cheese which was drizzled by sweet balsamic vinegar- yum!
The special steelhead fish with pesto entree was fantastic . It was served with plump Guif prawns and perfectly prepared risotto.
The wines were just the right accompaniment and the service very attentive. Will will be back soon!
Absolutely the best place within 50 miles. The lunch and dinner menu are truly italian, the wine list the same. It's got something for everyone.
This is a favorite business lunch spot for me. The food is great and so is the service! You can have a conversation without raising your voice.
Excellent service. Could easily get reservations on week night. However the special risotto was without much flavor and not creamy. Other guests at our table thought the Bolognese was excellent.
Again the best Risotto I've ever had. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals including our young grandchildren. Will return again and again!!!
Lovely setting. Service slow and hurried. Veal Scallopini unacceptable. Small veal portion with 2 small cutlets. No flavor. May return for pizza
Great food and service always
Excellent service. Loved our waitress. She was phenomenal
Extremely loud and difficult to have a conversation across the table.
Warm and cozy.
Broccoli appetizer was boring; seemed like it was just steamed with some Mama Lils added. Not worth the money.
Butter lettuce salad was very nice.
Egglplant parmagiano would have been better with a lot more eggplant but the flavors were good.
Bolognas was excellent as always but apparently the gnocchi was just kind of basic according to the other diners. Service was slower than usual & they almost forgot to bring out one of our appetizers
Valentine's Day was very busy. We didn't get the booth I had asked for when I made the reservations because they said they needed to save them for larger parties. Food was very good but not spectacular. Same with the service.
Our server was very helpful with the menu and accommodating us. I could imagine dinning here again. The wait was also very short once we got checked in using open table.
Second time we have been here, same great food and service both times. Will defonitely be back.
Could very well be the best Italian food in Seattle! Relaxing atmosphere, friendly wait staff and imaginative food. We have been here many times over the years and never disappointed.
Great place, service was very quick, and the personnel really nice, food is great. We'll be back for sure.
Their food is always consistent in quality. It's our favorite Italian restaurant.
This new location and ownership will never compare to the Mamma Melina ran by the previous owners, the Varchetta brothers, who own two Italian ristorantes downtown: Barolo and Cinque Terre. The food is essentially fine but nothing fantastic. The whole feeling of the restaurant was hotel' ish/corporate. The service was amazing, and that plus the dessert were the two redeeming qualities of the meal.
