Malt Shovel Taphouse Adelaide
Great location, perfect for early dining before a show at the theatre. Staff are fantastic. Size of meat servings appears to vary as ours was much smaller to the tables nearby who ordered the exact same thing as we did
Great food, service and venue. Well done Adelaide . Easy to get to on the tram . View over the Torrens is amazing. Love the fact it was central to all major venues. Had the share meal, all the meat was well cooked and the vegetables where amazing. Table service was wonderful and the paying of the bill was great as we were a big group who wanted to pay separately .
Food was good, however Pork was very different to last time we came - missed the crackling!
Noise level very high and hard to hear.
Staff very friendly and service was prompt.
Great for a quick bite before the footy. Bustling atmosphere and great drinks list.
$25 feed is great value.
Wait staff were excellent.
Food was excellent.
Can't wait to go back and try the "Feed Me" option!!!
Beef Chips & Mushrooms were AMAZING!!
Wasn’t overly impressed with the lamb, but the pork belly was great as was the selections of sides.
It was an amazing location and the views were incredible when sitting outside. We enjoyed the tapas and the food was fantastic.
Service was great for getting us our food and drinks quickly before the show. Servers seemed rushed and overworked.
Food was average. The bread for the rolls were bland but the chicken was good. They could’ve used more sauce.
We were pleasantly surprised at the high standard of food for the price. The meat was so tender and all the sides were tasty. We had previously been for drinks and wanted to try the meals. We were not disappointed! The staff were attentive and explained the menu to us. A great variety of wines... we didn’t sample the beers, and ,of course, so handy to Festival Theatre for a show after.
Top notch service! And loved sharing a couple of the dishes. I would go again in a heartbeat!
We were very impressed with the meal and service. There was some live music so noise level high when trying to talk while having our meal. We would definitely go back again
Food was delicious! Wanted to try it all.
Staff were very friendly.
Staff were friendly
Food was great
Beer was great
Really enjoyed our meal - the food was excellent (as was the value). Only criticism is that the service was a little random (none of the wait staff seemed to know who was looking after our table). Will be returning for another dose of rotisserie!
I so wish I remember our waitresses name but alas I dont so I hope you can work out whom looked after us......she was young, energetic, polite & very friendly throughout the meal & picked up that me & my 3 girlfriends were heading to the Festival Centre after our meal so once we ordered she let us know that our meals would be a priority from the kitchen so we wouldnt be late for the 7.30pm show ! PLUS she recommended we order 2x jus on offer with the meats we ordered & we cant thank her enough as 1 serve would DEF have not been enough amongst us four as that jus was divine !!!
Well done guys, this is the 4th time I have frequented your venue & have been impressed each & every time. Great work on hiring service staff that actually show they want to be there.
First time for us here. Great atmosphere, but pretty noisy. Food was good, but took a long time to arrive, but it was busy. Overall, would go again.
Great place for a quick meal prior to a show in the Festival Centre. The staff were aware of our timeline and, without making the meal feel rushed, we were able to enjoy the food, live music and ambience. It’s then just a quick walk to our show.
Excellent choice of beers on tap, could benefit by having a larger choice of cider on tap. Food was excellent, we had the slow cooked lamb and the pork along with two sides, pumpkin and spuds. The view over the river to Adelaide oval was outstanding and it will be a great spot when the weather improves.
Will come back. Pipsqueak cheesecake was amazing. Good value
Absolutely lived the meal, the service and the venue.
great location for a meal and drink after the football loved the food and craft beers overall fantastic will be back soon
We went there before a show at the Festival Theatre. It was a great spot to enjoy a quick meal and drink. There was a guitarist playing who provided great background music. Recommend
After arriving at 11:25am, we ordered our lunch by no later than 11:40am. One of us ordered the beef, and were advised that it would take 30 minutes which we advised was fine. We had a show to attend at 1pm. The food did not arrive until an hour later at 12:40pm, so we were extremely rushed to eat and get to the show by 1pm. Had they advised it would be an hour, we would have ordered something else. There was only about 4-5 tables of people in the restaurant, and we were the first or second to arrive and order. Coffees were also cold, even after sending one back, it came back cold again. I never complain about restaurants, and this is the first review I have ever written. However, it was very disappointing. Despite the beautiful location and modern interior etc, I would definitely not return.
Outstanding and friendly service. Amazing food and value for money.,nothing was too hard. Will definitely be returning
Even though our waiter was aware of us wanting to attend a show after our meal and was very apologetic, it took more than 45 minutes to get our food. My wife's tofu was almost uneatable but the accompanying salat was quite nice. My pork belly was almost cold and the crust had the consistency of rubber. The coleslaw was nice and spicy. When we paid our bill we commented on the food being rather poor and were told the excuse that they were "busy"!
My second time here and enjoyed everything about it. Our waiter was lovely. We will be back as it’s an excellent location before or after a show.
Great spot for a quick meal and drink before the Footy
I initially chose the restaurant because it was convenient to Cabaret shows I was seeing, but the food was so good that I will return regardless of going to theatre or not. There is a good vibe and gummy share plates.
Great spot to sit and enjoy the winter sun coming in during the afternoon. The food was sensational, our group of 9 enjoyed mixed platters of the roast meats and various serves of the sides, all were tasty and interesting. The selection of beers seemed a bit limited for a taphouse, I would have liked to see more craft brews available. A couple of us enjoyed the desserts as well. All in all a most enjoyable afternoon.
we were in a hurry but would love to go back and try it again with more time. Perhaps in the daytime to enjoy the ambience and the scenery
My daughter and I came here recently, for an early meal, before our show. We ordered two share plates and two sides and found everything was extremely tasty and delicious. We will definitely recommend Malt Shovel Taphouse to others and be back ourselves very soon.
Awesome atmosphere, great venue, great food!!! Hidden gem!
Yummy food and beverages! Good selection for dinner before visiting the Festival Theatre. For some reason my reservation through opentable was not in the restaurants system but was able to get seated in a lovely spot and enjoy the night!
The Taphouse was pretty cool upon entry and handy that it was around the corner from the Festival Theatre. The drinks and food menu sounded great but unfortunately I didn't rate the food for what we were paying.
We ordered the chicken roll which was on the spit menu - the chicken was essentially roasted chicken breast pulled and slapped on a roll with some coleslaw, not exactly as appetising as the menu stated.
We ordered the chicken wings and I took a nice bite into an undercook wing. After i felt the strange texture in my mouth I looked at the bone and saw it was still red and pink in the flesh. We called over the waitress who said she would speak to the chef... she came back and said that it was a "blood clot" and it was cooked fine - I can assure you that I know uncooked chicken when I see it. Instead of offering to refund us the dish, she offered to give us 2 free coffees.... I just asked for the refund of the chicken as we would not be eating it.
The pulled beef chips were tasty but nothing special, the squid salad was OK, the highlight were the salt and vinegar roast potatoes.
A lovely little pre-theatre spot for dinner. Not the cheapest place in town and the menu the night we were there was limited but delicious and well presented. The staff were excellent. A singer/guitar player provided nice backgound entertainment. All in all, very happy.
Nice casual place to have lunch or dinner. Reasonable priced food. The Tasting beer paddles are good value. Service was ok. The waitress was a bit nervous maybe she was new? She messed up our drinks order but got a free glass of wine so cant complain. Was a bit cold inside as they left the doors open the whole time so just kept our jackets on. Can be a bit noisy with the muscian and people talking over it.
So great to have somewhere to go before a show at the Festival Centre. Food was great, service was excellent! Really friendly waiting staff. We all really enjoyed our night... Would like to see a few more vegetarian options on the menu. Thanks
Our Table of 6 LOVED The Malt Shovel Taphouse for a birthday dinner. From the pre dinner beer paddles and mocktails to the delicious and generous $45 Feed Me Menu which was great value for money. We brought our own birthday cake which was served after dinner (No cakeage charge) but will be returning to try the desserts as they look amazing!
It was a quiet Tuesday night, accoustic guitar playing and fantastic service, we can't recomend it highly enough. Thank you for a great evening!
Good selection of food and quickly served. Good have done without the guy singing and playing the guitar.
Slight delay in receiving the bill was the only disappointment
Whenever we entertain interstate guests we always take them to the Malt Shovel. Great food and on tap beer plus the views across the river to the Adelaide Oval are always impressive.
