Malt Shovel Taphouse Adelaide
My second time here and enjoyed everything about it. Our waiter was lovely. We will be back as it’s an excellent location before or after a show.
Great spot for a quick meal and drink before the Footy
I initially chose the restaurant because it was convenient to Cabaret shows I was seeing, but the food was so good that I will return regardless of going to theatre or not. There is a good vibe and gummy share plates.
Great spot to sit and enjoy the winter sun coming in during the afternoon. The food was sensational, our group of 9 enjoyed mixed platters of the roast meats and various serves of the sides, all were tasty and interesting. The selection of beers seemed a bit limited for a taphouse, I would have liked to see more craft brews available. A couple of us enjoyed the desserts as well. All in all a most enjoyable afternoon.
we were in a hurry but would love to go back and try it again with more time. Perhaps in the daytime to enjoy the ambience and the scenery
My daughter and I came here recently, for an early meal, before our show. We ordered two share plates and two sides and found everything was extremely tasty and delicious. We will definitely recommend Malt Shovel Taphouse to others and be back ourselves very soon.
Awesome atmosphere, great venue, great food!!! Hidden gem!
Yummy food and beverages! Good selection for dinner before visiting the Festival Theatre. For some reason my reservation through opentable was not in the restaurants system but was able to get seated in a lovely spot and enjoy the night!
The Taphouse was pretty cool upon entry and handy that it was around the corner from the Festival Theatre. The drinks and food menu sounded great but unfortunately I didn't rate the food for what we were paying.
We ordered the chicken roll which was on the spit menu - the chicken was essentially roasted chicken breast pulled and slapped on a roll with some coleslaw, not exactly as appetising as the menu stated.
We ordered the chicken wings and I took a nice bite into an undercook wing. After i felt the strange texture in my mouth I looked at the bone and saw it was still red and pink in the flesh. We called over the waitress who said she would speak to the chef... she came back and said that it was a "blood clot" and it was cooked fine - I can assure you that I know uncooked chicken when I see it. Instead of offering to refund us the dish, she offered to give us 2 free coffees.... I just asked for the refund of the chicken as we would not be eating it.
The pulled beef chips were tasty but nothing special, the squid salad was OK, the highlight were the salt and vinegar roast potatoes.
A lovely little pre-theatre spot for dinner. Not the cheapest place in town and the menu the night we were there was limited but delicious and well presented. The staff were excellent. A singer/guitar player provided nice backgound entertainment. All in all, very happy.
Nice casual place to have lunch or dinner. Reasonable priced food. The Tasting beer paddles are good value. Service was ok. The waitress was a bit nervous maybe she was new? She messed up our drinks order but got a free glass of wine so cant complain. Was a bit cold inside as they left the doors open the whole time so just kept our jackets on. Can be a bit noisy with the muscian and people talking over it.
So great to have somewhere to go before a show at the Festival Centre. Food was great, service was excellent! Really friendly waiting staff. We all really enjoyed our night... Would like to see a few more vegetarian options on the menu. Thanks
Our Table of 6 LOVED The Malt Shovel Taphouse for a birthday dinner. From the pre dinner beer paddles and mocktails to the delicious and generous $45 Feed Me Menu which was great value for money. We brought our own birthday cake which was served after dinner (No cakeage charge) but will be returning to try the desserts as they look amazing!
It was a quiet Tuesday night, accoustic guitar playing and fantastic service, we can't recomend it highly enough. Thank you for a great evening!
Good selection of food and quickly served. Good have done without the guy singing and playing the guitar.
Slight delay in receiving the bill was the only disappointment
Whenever we entertain interstate guests we always take them to the Malt Shovel. Great food and on tap beer plus the views across the river to the Adelaide Oval are always impressive.
Food was delicious, the kids even liked their meals. Well priced. We had a great lunch listening to live music, sitting out in the sun. Will definitely come back
Perfect place to meet friends and have a meal before going to a show at festival theatre.
Fantastic food and location.great staff
Love everything about this place and with the bonus of live music!!!!
Will visit again and again.
Great for pre and post Footy and Shows.
Great location and great ambience. Loved the food and the service from Alicia in the restaurant was great
It was our first time at this restaurant underneath the Festival Theatre.
Although we both booked the pork we would have liked to have had our own plate, as it was we had a "shared" plate,
Although the entertainment was very good the noise level was far too high, we were shouting to hear one another across the table.
We really enjoyed our meal at the Malt Shovel Taphouse, however the only dampener on the evening was that our meal was a bit slow coming to us which meant we had to rush it to get to our show on time.
Very noisy, it would be nice to see more choices on the menu
Service on arrival leaves a lot to be desired. Bar staff were arrogant and too involved in their own conversation to be bothered with customers. Restaurant staff were lovely and food served quickly. Food is good but a little over priced. Nice spot to sit and enjoy the river view.
Good food, great space, loved the selection of plonk on tap. Good time had by all👌
Service was excellent very attentive without being over the top, very friendly staff and the food was delicious. We will be back.
Fabulous food, great location, bar staff were a bit rude
But apart from
That great experience
Chicken wings were very disappointing. We couldn’t eat them. Looked undercooked, tasted fleshy and nowhere near as good as the picture on instagram which is the main reason we went there. Was also told music started at 6 however wasn’t any whole we were there 6.30-8pm
Noisy swearing conversation happening behind us, love the food and service. Didn’t want to sit there all night listening to 6 blokes f and c all night.
Great views, great staff, great beer selection and the lovliest meat rolls ive had in a long time.
Lovely food, sparkling wine overlooking the river and all this with excellent service as well. Perfect.
Had reservations at 9pm. Showed up and they said they were closing for the night.
We had the rotisserie deal, the meat was tender, the salads delicious. Excellent service, thank you.
Fabulous service - Danielle was amazing and we had a really good night
Food selection excellent and delicious. Service excellent. Live music added a great ambience and was not to loud and appreciated. Overall a great place for either just a beer or staying longer for a delicious meal.
It was great being able to choose the plates for 2 although as we are not big eaters the size of the serves were a bit much for us. Afterwards we wished we'd thought of getting the plates for 3 between us so as to get more variety in sides.
Lovely atmosphere in a great location. Date night meal booked for 6.30pm, arrived on time and we were shown straight to our table which was by the window as requested. There were a couple of beers not available, but we hardly noticed as the lovely young lady who served us able to advise us on another. The food was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed a cocktail and a sparkling wine. All in all, a great night and we will definitely book again.
You forgot pre-theatre! Given its location, it is perfect for quality, tasty, modern food to eat before popping off to a show next door. Fantastic addition to the riverside.
Second time dining here, we’re booked in for next week again. Love the setup and the view.
First beer ordered they had run out of. We arrived at 5pm when kitchen opened, ordered a mixed rotisserie platter to then be told 10 mins later that they didn't have any chicken ready. Beef was overcooked and dry. Service was good but overall it was overpriced and disappointing.
