Malt Shovel Taphouse Adelaide
It was great being able to choose the plates for 2 although as we are not big eaters the size of the serves were a bit much for us. Afterwards we wished we'd thought of getting the plates for 3 between us so as to get more variety in sides.
Lovely atmosphere in a great location. Date night meal booked for 6.30pm, arrived on time and we were shown straight to our table which was by the window as requested. There were a couple of beers not available, but we hardly noticed as the lovely young lady who served us able to advise us on another. The food was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed a cocktail and a sparkling wine. All in all, a great night and we will definitely book again.
You forgot pre-theatre! Given its location, it is perfect for quality, tasty, modern food to eat before popping off to a show next door. Fantastic addition to the riverside.
Second time dining here, we’re booked in for next week again. Love the setup and the view.
First beer ordered they had run out of. We arrived at 5pm when kitchen opened, ordered a mixed rotisserie platter to then be told 10 mins later that they didn't have any chicken ready. Beef was overcooked and dry. Service was good but overall it was overpriced and disappointing.
We chose your venue for my Daughter’s Birthday as I read about the chef and really wanted to try this new vibrant venue. Service was outstanding, view amazing so picturesque. Very accommodating when we changed one of the orders ... only thing I would mention is if you offer Eggs you should offer Scrambled as well. Other than that a perfect dining experience. I had with me someone who is extremely fussy with her coffee and she said it was the best coffee she has had in Adelaide made at the perfect temperature.
Service was terrible. Waitress claimed they had no steak from the rotisserie. Then when we ordered the lamb it was dry and we asked twice for some sauce. She actually refused us the first time. Just a real pity to see such a great location be let down by sub par food and service. This was a Saturday night in the holiday period and they wanted us out of the table by 930pm even though they took our booking for 830pm. Overall really poor and won’t go back till they overhaul kitchen.
Very good experience overall. We weren’t “Wow’d” so couldn’t give 5 stars but nothing to complain about.
Beer selection was excellent. Also a good selection of wines.
Rotisserie chicken was a highlight.
Venue looks great, live music, awesome service. Had shared food, loved most, would like to see more ‘fresh’ foods, loved the ceviche and octopus. Otellia white was very impressive. Will go back as I think food will only get better.
Nice location, friendly staff and good value. Service was quick and efficient
Disappointing. Waitress wiped table and spilt the liquid over me, no apology. And wasn't too busy to the note. Outside for pre dinner drink was less than half full. Booked for 4 inside, can't fit 4 mains on a table. And were left to arrange and sort ourselves shifting played, offloading sides, moving things to other tables. Even though there were so many free larger tables we weren't offered to move or join a table for space. Restaurant wait staff were friendly overall. Food was lovely. Meats cooked well, vegetarian was over priced for what it was.
Gorgeous spot, great food, fantastic service.
I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere but the music was just too loud!! Speakers were booming and it meant the 100s of people who were there inside & outside were all raising their voices just to have a conversation. It’s a pity because it kind of ruined it for me-went home with a banging headache. Food very good though.
Nothing special, but not terrible either. The menu looked good, but food failed to match the hype. Suggest a rotisserie tasting plate (of all three meats). The shared plate for two not nearly enough.
Malt Shovel has only just opened and it shows. The service was excellent and the views are brilliant. The craft beer selection was also impressive. However, the food servings were small. We had the lamb and chicken roll. The chips were delicious but the serve of meat was tiny compared to the roll. I had 4-5 small pieces of lamb and the chicken came with a lot of skin that was fatty.
We also asked if we could sit outside and order our food but were told we couldn't as they didn't serve food outside. Later in the day when we were enjoying the views (and a cheese platter) from an outdoor seat I discovered an almost exact menu serving the outdoor area. The music was reasonable and aimed at a much younger market. The patrons at lunch were definitely between 40-60 years old. Lastly, the gazebo needs some type of covering to stop sunburn.
I am looking forward to coming back when they have settled as long as the servings are a bit more generous.
We went on opening night and everything was excellent...not what we’d normally expect on an opening night! Highly recommend!
