Two menus are available at Malt with an express bistro offer in the bar and a more refined dining experience in the Attic that showcases contemporary food techniques with a relaxed style service.

Service was great , food very good but was seated right next to a birthday party which destroyed the atmosphere of the evening. Maybe another night or a different table would of made the evening near perfect.

Before this experience I was one of malts biggest fans, now I will not return. Simply it's original ambience is gone only to be replaced with bright lights as if it's spotlighted like a main stage.
The move on the menu to semi pan Asian is actually heart breaking, on top of that it's execution of said "new" cuisine is far below the standard set the 4 times I've visited prior over the last few years.

This place used to be my go to place - for honest and tasty dishes at the beautiful quiet and romantic atmosphere.
However this time, it was very noisy, dishes were all very salty and overly trying to be Asian fusion. I didn’t enjoy the experience at all.
The share plates were interesting and quite tasty (we especially enjoyed the pumpkin and quail dishes). The reason for the mediocre review today is that we found the service pretty perfunctory even though the place wasn't super busy, and our pre-dinner cocktail order was lost which meant that that our cocktails arrived after our food, and didn't pair super well with them. Overall, a pretty good place for a work dinner which makes sense in the CBD, but not for a special or intimate meal.
Love this place... great food. A hidden gem and always a great place to go.
A very quaint, cosy and accommodating venue with lovely staff who were very attentive and positive 🙂.
Oh and the food was exceptional, so much so I took it home with me. The food not the chef 👌🏻.
Always choose the set menu. Sure you may not always like the full set (eggplant for me) but you'll never be disappointed with the selection.

We were very happy with this restaurant. Food was outstanding. There isn’t a piano player anymore which was a bit sad but we would go again anyway!

Our waitress (Claire? I think) was wonderful and made sure our table was well looked after. She had great suggestions, and I would happily eat there again.
An intimate and warm setting was matched by friendly, attentive, efficient yet discreet service. Our ''feed me" degustation was absolutely delicious. More food than we could eat with creative, delicious dishes. We would definitely return.

If you like adventurous, delicious gastronomy in a cool, retrofitted, wonderfully-lit restaurant with friendly but not overbearing service, and you don't mind paying rather more for that experience, Malt is the place for you.
The bar downstairs is cosy, well-stocked and well-tended. But the restaurant upstairs is where it's at. I hadn't known of the chef before we dined there recently, but I'm sure we'll be hearing more of him. He's not afraid to marry umame with fruity in a savoury dish, and the surprising results will delight your palate.
The wines are excellent, of course, but pricey. There's nothing under about $55 a bottle. It's a shame some slightly less distinguished vintages couldn't be offered for us plebs.
Highly recommended for lovers of very fine dining and those very special, intimate occasions.

Service was great, recommended some good whiskeys. Food has been better on previous visits though, i dont think the asian fusion worked that well on a few occasions. Duck part of the feed me menu was quite tough, leche flan was too dense and heavy coming out of such a large meal. Wasn't a bad experience, just has been better in the past, would still recommend
the food was great and the service was perfect. We went for our anniversary and they made us a card and left us a bottle of wine! Very very impressive on all counts we will be back!
The eggplant dumplings were fantastic - smoky and silky. The staff could have better knowledge of the dishes - there were a few ingredients we hadn't heard of and they didn't really know what they were either.
Interesting menu to choose from, including a large gf option. Great venue.

The food at Malt is unique and delicious. A very pleasant dining experience.
We always spent out anniversary with you, because you always looked after our allergies issue and everything was made with fresh and could cater, this time i told you our issues and as we get there our allergy issue were not taken care of, and nothing could be made for us as everything had preservatives . Sad that nothing is made fresh any more. The wait servers were no longer dressed to impress, the noise from the drunks downstairs kept blairing through the window, no piano. Seriously malt has gone downhill and i think its lost its touch. Will never be going back which is a shame as it used be an excellent venue.
After booking for 4 people we arrive and our waiter took us to a table that was set up for 2 people. I had to remind him that the booking was for 4 people. A little bit disappointing!
We chose only the vegan dishes and they were truly sensational. Very flavoursome, visually appealing and generous in size. We will most definitely be visiting again.

The ambience of the restaurant was exceptional and the service prompt and friendly. The menu choices were divine, it was so hard to choose. I enjoyed the sweet chilli ribs which were divine. The chat potatoes with truffles were the best I have ever tasted. Dessert was the Malt brownie with chocolate crackle and ice cream.
We enjoyed the ‘Let us feed you’ option and we’re not disappointed. The quality of the food was excellent. We even received a small present and a card for our special occasion dinner.
Bar was nice, cocktails not very good - too strong not enough mixer/flavour to call a cocktail.
Restaurant staff member rude, telling us there was no 'outside' area in an abrupt tone, making out we were stupid for thinking there was an outside. The reason we thought that is because it came up as an option on this website when booking. I assume they have the ability to turn that option off but they obviously haven't tested the online tools they are signed up to!
The food had lots of flavour but was cold. We ordered the beef main and it was cold and chewy meat.
The waitress was not very knowledgeable on the food or on how to behave in a polite but not overbearing manner - they need some refined training in fine dining service - not their fault at all, Management need to invest in their staff or hire staff of the right calibre if they are wanting to charge top price.
Look at how the restaurant Sake operates, send a secret shopper or two in there from your own Management team and see how service is delivered there.
We had the "feed me" menu. Every dish was so rich that by the time we got to the 3rd and 4th dish we felt sick and could not eat anymore, I would recommend the chef considers less flavour varieties and not make every dish so rich. The service was perfect.

Seriously good food. Monday night is a bit quiet but that is to be expected. Every dish was great. The standout was the smoked eggplant. Wow! Would definitely go back.
