Loved our evening at Malt, from the beautiful exposed beams and brickwork, view out to the leaves of a tree and tall buildings, attentive service, comfy chair to the amazing chargrilled cauliflower, braised octopus and pork jowl with pineapple. Not sold on pork floss with coconut pannacotta but glad we tried it! Malt brownie was the “best dessert I’ve ever had” according to my husband.
Malt Dining keeps on delivering. The food is fantastic, they have a great wine list, and it is idea for vegans and coeliacs alike... even meat eaters will love the vegan dishes. Fantastic job guys.
Truly delicious food and wonderful service. We enjoyed the live pianist.
Overall very good. Just a bit slow with bringing our meals We were voluntarily compensated with a free canapee.
Nice atmosphere with the live music. Great service, food was ok. Usually better.
It was our anniversary, so when we arrived our table had a card congratulating us on our anniversary. The highlight of the night was the pianist player. It created a calm, intimate and warm atmosphere for the night. Food was outstanding. Incredible!!!! And staff were nice and polite.
The new chef's asian fusion menu was a disaster. It was fantastic execution on stupid tragic ideas. Daikon noodle is soaked in beautiful broth but the noodle itself doesn't make any sense. The bak choy side dish was sour because they chopped the bak choy too thin and overcooked it. The flavor was bazaar when having it with the salami puree. The texture is hard to swallow. They also put pork floss on panna cotta for different texture according to their explanation. That's just gross. When the floss soaks in the sweet sauce, it tastes so weird. Why don't they just put hair on a pudding? It's disgusting and also gives a different texture to the dish.
But the beef cheek and pork were pretty good because they didn't apply any stupid idea.
Please stick to the previous menu.
It was nice, it was delicate, it worked before, and it will work in the future.
The staff were fabulous and the food was good. Loved the live piano player and the decor made you feel like you could be over in Europe. We had a great night.
I'll be back! Excellent food. Excellent cocktails. Quiet setting near the water. Perfect for a business meeting or weekend brunch.
Excellent! Great service and food was delicious! I would recommend for lunch and dinner.
Had the degustation. It was not as good as last time we ate here which was disappointing. A little turned off by the $15 corkage if you don’t buy your wine from their own bottle shop.
Always well prepared and thought out dishes. The Malt Brownie is worth saving room for
Swordfish stank like day-old prawns, but tasted so bland. It was served on raspberry yoghurt too.
Venue smelt like an old library, you know that dank carpet smell?
No need to return.
What we ordered: swordfish, potatoes, vodka and tap water.
I had a lovely lunch. The menu is small but well done. The fish of the day was snapper and cooked to perfection. I had the cheese of the day and it was awesome. Service was good as well considering there was only one person serving. I didn't have to wait for anything and she was very knowledgeable about the food and wine menu.
Not a big fan of the new menu. Heard the chef was trying an asian fusion.
We have been to Malt quite a few times and have thoroughly enjoyed the food and the experience. Unfortunately the new menu was underwhelming and definitely not suitable for my husband who has a seafood allergy. Even the Beef Cheeks had Oyster Sauce in the marinade. We both had trouble choosing meals from the extremely limited menu. The waitress was very nice and quite efficient. We easily chose a very nice wine from the extensive wine list. We were obviously not happy with our meals and were given a free dessert to compensate. The dessert was the chocolate brownie from their old menu and it was delicious but this won't encourage us to return anytime soon.
Absolutely superb! Exceeded our expectations. Have been once before for mother’s day and didn’t think it could have gotten any better! Thanks so much for the great service.
We went on a Tuesday night, were able to purchase a lovely pinor from the trading shop to enjoy with dinner. We have been several times and rate this Brisbane's best restaurant.
What a great place to start and finish the night. Awesome drinks and even better food.
The food and service in Malt is just simply the best, had a great night celebrating with friends
Great food. Degustation menu and paired wines fabulous.
My friend and I had the 8 course with paired wines and it was absolutely amazing.
Much larger then expected and exceeded our expectations.
The service from the staff and the knowledge they had was very impressive.
The dining area had beautiful ambience and lovely decor.
I will definitely be back but also be recommending this place to friends.
Must say for the price we paid we were disappointed with some of our menu selections. We didn't want to bring this to their attention at the time due to the celebratory nature of our dinner at Malt because of the risk of offending our special guest thus affecting the occasion (causing stress). I would not have expected this with the prior reviews I had read. We found the 'temperature' of the pork dish to be quite cool (as if it had been 'sitting' for too long before being served and would normally have sent back for the chef's attention. Another of our party had the mushroom dish and the mushrooms themselves were quite 'full' of what seems water content. I tried some and for someone who eats most things and loves mushrooms I would have found it difficult dish to eat. The desserts were on the unexciting side unfortunately. On the positive side, entrees were tasteful, presentation was great as was the ambiance and service. Unfortunately we won't be back.
The degustation menu showcased mouth watering food with amazing flavour combinations! All it was missing was an extra pasta course to fill us up! Unfortunately we left the venue peckish after devouring the six course menu. This was quite disappointing given the hefty price of dining here.
However we would definitely return for the kangaroo and ginger dish as a main!
My partner and I went for our anniversary dinner and the food was fantastic, plus we got a surprise little card and gift from the team at Malt, which was super sweet.
Their food and pricing is well pitched at the lower end of the fine dining spectrum. Food quality was good and service excellent.
Very good dining experience even as solo diner. Accommodative on last minute requirements. Super friendly service, excellent wine pairing, fresh selected ingredients and good execution. With better visual presentation be even better. maybe the food was served tad too fast. But a memorable very good dinner and will go into my must go place list of Brisbane!
Beautiful experience. Exceptional food. Would recommend Malt to anyone. Degestational menu was absolutely fantastic.
Interesting food- well cooked. Drink list is great.
Good food, great service
Great service and great atmosphere with selection of wines whiskys ect. The food was underwhelming. The small portion sizes were not the issue. The food lacked depth of flavor. We had the 4 course detestation with matched wines. The first dish with fish was terribly over seasoned with salt. The second dish were were asked if we wanted seasoning which in hindsight we should have said yes. It was bland. Not the food we would have expected from here. Perhaps we are picky - the dishes themselves are put together lovely and displayed as fine dining - it was however, not a fine dining flavor to match.
Delicious food in a great setting, staff were lovely and the eight course degustation menu w’ matching wines was amazing! Would definitely recommend and we will be back. Thank you.
I had dinner with work friends and had the degustation menu with wine. It was all excellent - especially the first and last course. It was great to be able to hear each other - lots of space between the tables. The young women serving we not very experienced and often gathered around the front counter. Very hard to get their attention. But would still highly recommend. The food and atmosphere were fantastic. Just need to have a word with the staff and it would be exceptional. Please waiters - you need to continually scan the room.
Being our 10 year wedding anniversary we were really looking for somewhere special. We were so happy we picked Malt! The venue itself is gorgeous. Exposed brick, mixed with old world charm, candlelight and a piano player made the perfect setting. The staff were warm, friendly and accommodating. We had the 6 course degustation with wine. The food was creative and each course surprised us with something interesting. The wines were matched perfectly and I enjoyed the explanation of each from our lovely waitress. Staff happily altered one of the courses for us. Thank you for helping us celebrate, we hope to come back again one day. The loved the little bottle of champagne and card - such a lovely personal touch.
What a surprise! Dined at Malt on Friday night for my birthday; the place was beautiful and elegant, with delicious food, and excellent service! It was away from the main thoroughfare of Brisbane in a cosy, converted, heritage loft space. They had a beautiful piano player, playing on a grand piano in the background. They also went above and beyond for us, which they really didn’t have to do! We had the four course menu, however, one of the members of our group was vegetarian. As quick as a flash they had rearranged the menu for her to provide her with a delicious vegetarian menu! They even provided me with a birthday card! Our waitress was amazing as well, although I forget her name, she was very patient with my very dysfunctional family and put up with my parents trying to converse with her in French. It truely is the little things that make the experience, which Malt does to an extraordinary level. Will definitely be back!
One of a couple of must do restaurants in Brisbane.... perched above a quality whiskey bar doesn't hurt either
Lovely ambience but meals don’t make sense. Tasteless pork that was more like sausage and dumplings more like ravioli. The chef needs to decide where the menu is heading.
excellent food, central to Brisbane CBD, helpful staff, interesting surroundings and individual
Stunning ambience great food great service made for a special night
We were very impressed with the food and service at Malt. They were excellent at catering for a coeliac in every aspect from variety to understanding. The only small criticism that we had was that the entree and main meal were served too close together. Overall a great place to dine.
