Loved every bit. The staff are attentive, the mood is warm and inviting and the food is exceptional. It didn’t frel like your average Brisbane restaurant, due to the staff’s professionalism and the intensity of their attitude towards crafting the entire experience. We even had a visit from the chef who was a delight. Can’t wait for another visit!
The entrance great - we were wished a happy anniversary and led to our table, with a candle freshly lit at our table for us.
However I think we may have been seated in the worst place in the restaurant - it was right next to the kitchen at an intersection so staff were constantly rushing past our table. The restaurant itself was quite noisy whereas from the pictures I imagined a quieter, more intimate dining experience. They had booths around the side of the restaurant which look like they would have been better but this seems to be reserved for groups of 3 - 4. The decor was really nice but the busy spot we were in coupled with the noise kind of ruined it. I had a look around to see if we could be moved but all the other seats were taken so this wouldn't have been possible.
Meals: The quality of all the ingredients used was good however the dishes themselves fell flat. The most exciting actual French dishes are the entrees, which were nice but not amazing. The mains really weren't that interesting - nice but not great and not really French. Portion size was average which is fine if it is exquisite food but it really wasn't. The sides are a big let down - my potato gratin tasted like bad potato bake.
Service: Service through the meals was good but not fantastic. A few mistakes were made - we had to chase up drinks a few times and she mentioned tips at the end then apologised for mentioning it. The waitress was friendly (perhaps too familiar) which seemed to make up for it. She seemed used to making mistakes. We didn't tip.
On a side note the cocktails were really great. The girl behind the bar making them was very good.
Overall when we left to pay we felt disappointed. Nothing really stood out, meals were OK but not great and the atmosphere was ruined largely to the noise and perhaps our seating placement. For the amount you pay you really expect an amazing dining experience but this wasn't it. I wanted to like this restaurant but ultimately it fell flat.
Great ambience and service. There are a lot of people in there and the acoustics aren't great. 3 course menu good value.
Beautiful ambience and beautiful food. The 3 course set menu was great value for money. Great cocktails, all in all a wonderful experience.
2nd time here and fantastic again. Will be back again
We originally booked for 'bar seating' however on arrival, it wasn't our preferred option and the waitress happily relocated us to an outdoor table. Our waiter was excellent, patient and entertaining. We opted for 3 courses but from the A La Carte because we both wanted the duck for our main. Unfortunately we were disappointed with this signature dish as the duck was cooked medium-rare but lacked in taste and was chewy. All other dishes were outstanding especially the entrees; goats cheese souffle and quail. We loved the lemon tart and profiteroles for dessert. All up a good night and we would recommend the 3 course option next time.
We had the three course meal, excellent value. I ordered medium steak it was more medium rare, the bernaise sauce was ordinary. The soufflé and lemon tart are superb.
This restaurant took me back to dining in an authentic French Bistro.
The ambiance was the first thing that stood out. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. There was a good choice of wine. I would certainly recommend and will definitely be going back.
We had been planning to try Madame Rouge for a while so booked for our wedding anniversary. Staff acknowledged this when we arrived and during and after our meal. Staff were friendly and efficient. Good choices on the menu with a degustation option. Food was delicious and we never felt rushed.
Absolutely loved the food. Best creme brûlée I’ve ever had. Had to keep asking for water & one of my wine glasses was possibly not clean as it made the wine oily with floating bits in it. The waitress brought me a fresh glass & wine so that was fine. Loved the atmosphere.
This was a nice place just off James Street with great food and excellent service. We were seated literally at the bar after making a reservation which was a bit weird. Reservation did state "bar" but it was a bit ambiguous and thought it simply meant inside - just a heads up for anybody making a reservation. Otherwise had excellent duck and perfectly cook steak.
This is our 'go to' place when we want a high quality French meal. The food is always amazing and the service and dining experience is second to none.
Great service, love the atmosphere of the restaurant, food was very good and very French, gives you a touch of France. Good selection of wines from France too.
Fantastic food and service. Madame Rouge has a lovely cosy ambience without feeling crowded. The staff were lovely and attentive without being intrusive and the food and beverages were a knockout.
They were magnificent! I had a number of dietary requirements and they made it known from the very beginning they received them and it was no problem. Their menu is actually quite accommodating. The service was wonderful, the FOOD was absolutely delish, everyone in our party raved about their dishes. Great place!
Truly wonderful restaurant. Lovely service, fantastic food, was the best possible restaurant I could have chosen to celebrate my 2 year anniversary. Have been recommending it to everyone since going. The food looks expensive on the menu, but it ends up being very good quality and delicious. Thank you Madame Rouge for a wonderful and memorable anniversary!
Our first time at Madame Rouge and we loved it! We enjoyed the 3 course meal and highly recommend the goats cheese souffle and the French Martini cocktail. Service was warm and friendly - we will definitely return.
Had the 3 course meal-loves entree and dessert however my steak was overdone (ordered medium rare). Checked with the waitstaff however waitstaff said that the steak was definitely medium rare however my friend's steak was definitely medium rare and there was a big difference. It did disappoint! Service was also pretty average considering the venue. The wine choice was also great.
Dinner date with my wife for her Birthday. Had been before but wanted to come back with more time to enjoy the place. First impressions here are as good as any restaurant anywhere I've been to. The Maitre d' is amazing and memorable, setting a high standard for her team to follow.
Cocktails are delicious and interesting. Wine list is very good, and food is excellent. Service team are friendly and attentive without interrupting.
We'll be back.
Brought my partner here for her birthday dinner. First time here and I must say, I will be back.
Great restaurant, music isn’t to loud so we can comfortably talk without having to raise our voice. We sat in the booth which I highly recommend for small groups. Very spacious seating which is something I tend to notice, I hate having to squeeze around strangers when finding my seat. Won’t have that problem here.
Food is on point. Good wine list and staff are all very polite, helpful and knowledgeable. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends.
The scallops were excellent however the escargots were small and a bit dry. The duck was well cooked but not special. The steak tartare was a real disappointment - it looked as though it had been prepared (several hours before serving) and was grey in colour (should be freshly prepared and meat coloured) and tasted as if marinated - it was served with what look like potato crisps.
Not a good experiment - you cannot beat the authentic french fries side with this dish. We would recomend that you rethink this dish - put all fresh ingredients on a plate and have the wait staff mix otherwise removing from the menu may be the answer.
We had a wonderful night- prompt and efficient, wonderful decor and very welcoming. Plus traditional french cuisine- our go to spot for french food. Loved it!
My first time here and it was excellent, absolutely loved it, and will be back. Loved it! And I've never had pork like that either.
This place is fast becoming one of my favourites. Great food with a lovely atmosphere. The staff are so very personable and fun. We had a great night
Superb. Loved the food, atmosphere, décor. Highly recommend this establishment. Gorgeous for all occasions. Would definitely consider private and/or business function. Staff were lovely, friendly, attentive and extremely quick to respond. 10/10
Been here several times and you guys have always been fantastic. Looking forward to visiting again!
We had dinner at Madame Rouge on Valentine’s night. What were we thinking? Every single seat in the place was taken even at the bar and the outside bar tables. Not the best way to introduce yourself to a new restaurant.
I’d like to go back and give the place another try. Saying that though they got a few things wrong that didn’t help the situation.
Firstly - the music. We were seated directly under a speaker blaring incredibly loud and shrill jazz trumpets on almost every track. We couldn’t hear ourselves think let alone talk to each other. Why that volume and why that choice of music for a crowded Valentine’s night? Is there no French music that would better suit the day and the ambience? We asked for it to be turned down just a little but received a fairly frosty, half-hearted reply. No tip for you François.
Paradoxically, the food servings were too large. We had a 5 course degustation. Each course was quite good but too large. Each one was a full entree (or dessert) size. As the name suggested a degustation should be a taste.
And maybe they were run off their feet but the personality of the wait staff didn’t add at all to the experience (I’m talking about you again François, and the robotic wine pouring person). Clara the plate collector was the most personable we met all night.
Having said all that I’d still like to go back on a better night to give the place a better test - it did seem to have potential.
Excellent atmosphere and service. The set menu was full of subtle flavours that danced on the tongue. Thank you to Mary, Phillip and all of the staff for making our Valentines & Birthday evening a night to remember.
A great place to take my babe of 45 years for valentines day.
Great atmosphere food and cocktails but a tad on the Exe side for what you’re getting. Very reminiscent of a Parisian bistro
The whole evening was very enjoyable. Love the atmosphere of the restaurant, decorated with deep and rich colors with out it feeling dark. The staff were very attentive and efficient. As an entree I had the scallops. They were perfectly cooked with a rich creamy sauce. Steak as a main. Asked for medium rare and they got it spot on. The meals are quite generous so was pretty full after the main, but of course I managed to squeeze in some dessert as well :) Can definitely recommend the profiteroles.
Excellent food, excellent service! Even Ben Robert Smith VC was eating there
My husband and I visited Madame Rouge on a whim for my birthday / Valentine’s Day. On arrival, we enjoyed a wonderful cocktail at the bar and a little people watching while taking in the cosy and very romantic decor. The menu was superb, plenty of authentic, wholesome options to choose and the meals arrived quickly. Escargot was fantastic, parfait was a delight and the duck was delicious. We shared a bombe Alaska and went home raving.
It was what I have seen in the movies... dim lighting with booth seating and red carpets!! I was always wanting to try French cuisine and I was lucky to have great food, service and ambience. What I like is that it is intimate enough for two people or big enough to have a group dinner. The drinks menu is insane and the food portions are done well! I can’t wait to go back
A great place to relax and enjoy great food and aervoce
We felt really spoilt by Mary and her team, thank you for a really lovely anniversary. We had the three course banquet which had lovely choices and was really competitively priced. The $1 oysters and $10 cocktails as an Australia day special really struck the right note. I'm sure they don't do that all the time but it really made us feel like being a little extravagant. The restaurant and bar are beautifully arranged. The serving staff were very hospitable, you can feel the deft hand of someone who has immense experience in running catering venture. It really was a perfect evening.
Love the food and ambiance here ! Would highly recommend.
Fantastic atmosphere. Staff very attentive. Beautiful food.
WE WERE CELEBRATING MINE AND MY WIFE'S BIRTHDAY'S AND WAS GIVEN A GIFT VOUCHER TO USE. WE HAD TRIED JUST BEFORE CHRISTMAS TO GET A TABLE BUT COULDN'T GET A TABLE THAT PARTICULAR NIGHT. BUT IN SAYING THAT WE BOTH ENJOYED OUR DINNER, MY WIFE ESPECIALLY LOVED THE BACKGROUND MUSIC (AS DID I) BUT SHE LOVED IT WHEN EDITH PIAF SONG CAME ON. HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDING TO ALL OUR FRIENDS TO GO AND EXPERIENCE THE FINE DINING AND ATMOSPHERE
Excellent, we will be back with friends, food and service was excellent
