First tea time with our girls
Omar was wonderful and made our experience a great memory
It was the second time I’ve been to the Sanderson for the Mad Hatter’s Afternoon tea. This time I brought my friend for her 50th birthday present. Whilst the food was generally good, I have to say that I was a little disappointed this time around for the following reasons - we had to ask several times for our champagne as this appeared to have been forgotten, small details were missing like the ‘drink me’ labels on the small bottles (which my friend was disappointed about) and I had identified that it was her birthday when I booked and was expecting a happy birthday ‘message’ for her as you had done for me on my previous visit, but nothing arrived. Had she not been sitting opposite me when the bill arrived, I would have asked that the service charge be removed, but I didn’t want to make her feel awkward.
It was a beautiful afternoon. I have been before and really enjoyed it! The decorations and food have no fault. One thing I would say is the staff are expected to carry the trays through a glass door and a gentleman dropped the plates. My party felt he should not be expected to carry this through a closed door.. we felt sorry for the gentleman as the food and China went everywhere.
Booked this for a 21st birthday. The venue was lovely as from the outside the hotel doesn’t look like a hotel. The Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea was delicious, filling with plenty of choice. A little expensive and a discretionary 15% service charge which I refused to pay. The service is good but not that good. All in all great for that special occasion.
Really enjoyed the Alice in Wonderland theme, service was great, as was the ambiance.
Wonderful vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options! Servers were accommodating, you can get bottomless tea and food refills. Still quite pricey for some cakes and sandwiches. But would definitely recommend!!!!
I came here as soon as they opened for a 12:30 high tea. I was able to sit in the courtyard which was beautiful and equip with heat lamps and blankets if you needed. It wasn’t busy at all and my order came out quickly. The service was impeccable! I cannot speak more highly of Hamidou (i hope I’m spelling that right) and the lady waitress I wasn’t able to catch her name. They were so attentive and made my experience so special.
Quirky setting in keeping with an Alice in wonderland themed tipsy tea. Choice of cocktails would have been nice, mulled wine too sweet, some lovely elements to the tea, let down by a few uninspired or too concept items. Would have liked food served with cocktails
The lady who greeted us, sorry didn’t get your name was attentive when we asked to be moved due to the heaters being too hot and then due to being on the pigeons flight path. Everything else was really very good. We stayed well over our time just chatting and shooing away pigeons. The afternoon tea was exquisite and filled us up but didn’t stop us forcing in one last pastry. The staff were attentive without being pushy and added to a wonderful second date experience.
We sat next to the door and the serving point so not under any heat, so it was cold. We were never asked what option we wanted so champagne wasn’t offered, that’s a lost opportunity for the Sanderson. Whilst the quality of crockery and food are excellent it wasn’t worth the £165 (for 3) for a few sandwiches and some cakes, sorry not for me!
The service is really good, the food is good enough but seems to be eventually overpriced.
I had a lovely afternoon tea at the Sanderson. Only two things bothered my sister and I. Firstly that you are outside in a courtyard and it was breezy. They supply blankets but we would have looked silly with them on, so kept our jackets on. Secondly there was a pigeon flying around. This didn’t bode well with us. Apart from that the service and food were exceptional
I got excited by how this experience was marketed online and the fact that I could have a vegan A/T and my friend could have a traditional one. My friend enjoyed hers but I found the vegan one incredibly disappointing for the price. The sandwiches were quite tasteless, the cakes were lack lustre, bland and pretty unremarkable and the scone was rock hard with unbelievably sweet jam that I personally found inedible. Overall I was underwhelmed and sad as this was supposed to be a lovely treat. Gave it 3 stars to reflect both vegan and non-vegan experiences together.
Lovely afternoon tea, great themed food! It was just a little warm where we were seated!
Fantastic food, service and atmosphere at Sandersons, we both enjoyed the mad hatters tea a lot and would recommend to others.
Had been on my bucket list for a while. We got there early and thought we’d have a cocktail. Lovely flavours just way too much ice, so not great value for money.
I booked this as. Special treat for a friends daughters 18th and advised when booking and was disappointed nobody mentioned this during our day. Some of the crockery was chipped and when we asked for peppermint tea it arrived 20 minutes later and 5 minutes after that we were told our 2 hours was up and if we could vacate the table.
I would summarise as a nice experience but not what I had hoped and expected sadly. It was a too obvious a conveyor belt!
I been here so many times, never had a problem. Travelled up Saturday Trav to take my mum and dad and my daughter for afternoon tea. Food was amazing
Services could be so much better, had pot of tea on table only had one tea bag. Was very weak, when we asked for anther one we had to ask more then twice as he forgot it . And they forgot to bring afternoon tea for our daughter. I also booked this for birthday celebration, normally they do something extra special they didn’t this time round. Food is amazing but not happy with the outcome of the services. I probably won’t be coming back.
Fantastic tea, really enjoyed it
The staff were friendly and service suitably attentive, the high tea was delicious but something needs to be done about the grubby pigeons!
Service very slow and pretty bad. The tea area is very cold. And the food is not good at all.
And because of that the price it doesn’t worth it. I wouldn’t go back or recommend to anyone.
The afternoon tea itself was amazing, so tasty and well thought out/designed. Drinks were expensive and there was a 15% service charge automatically added on to the bill which was a bit Excessive. The staff were extremely pleasant however very slow for the level of business and forgot about a coffee we ordered. Waited about 15 mins for the card machine to even be brought over and had to ask staff over to request any more drinks.
Surprised to be seated outdoors where my table did not get the heat I was given a blanket, s little bizarre, not quite what I signed up for. Constantly irritated by the pidgieons wandering around. Extremely over priced for something so basic in comparison to other hotels I've had afternoon tea at.
Not worth the money when the food was not imof great quality. Had much better afternoon tea with alcohol included for less.
Food was lovely, so happy that they catered for dairy free, meant that I didn't miss out on any treats as they looked very similar to the usual order. It would have been better if there were bigger tables, as my friend and I had to juggle a lot of plates and manouver carefully round the table. But overall it was an enjoyable experience one that I would gladly repeat.
The food was really good and the service was good. The waiters were attentive.
The only slight negative were pigeons that had got in, but as the room is open I think this couldn’t be helped.
Fantastic customer service to accommodate many different dietary requirements and also number of guests. Happy to replenish and good variety of food
Beautifully presented food, lots of choice and catered wonderfully for my friend who doesn't eat certain things due to allergies. Staff were attentive, and we will return for another afternoon tea soon
Brilliant afternoon, what a treat! Lovely decor and delicious food.
The food was amazing !!!!
I expected it to be better. I was a little disappointed to be honest.
Lovely tea. Lovely service.
Only one thing was not so good - 2 pigeons in the outside area 😬
Ask to sit inside if you don’t like pigeons flying around whilst you’re trying to eat!
Lovely modern hotel, great idea to have the afternoon tea in the garden area. As it was winter nice idea to have blankets available if needed and there were patio heaters above to try and keep you warm. Service was quick and excellent everything was explained to us about the menu and different teas you could try.The food was amazing very tasty and cleverly done. You could see a lot of thought and work had gone into each piece of the afternoon tea!we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea and recommend anyone to give it a try.
We all had a really great time. Staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We were sat by the kitchen which was a little noisy.
Would definitely recommend to anyone who hasn’t been to try it.
Great food, lovely theme. Great value since you could order more of everything, without extra cost. Cute cakes. Nice interior, but at little bit to noisy (though staff did turn down the music volume when we asked them).
Second time at this afternoon tea and was fairly disappointed, given it’s more on the expensive end. Had to ask for champagne and the tea had already been brought out by then. Didn’t get the little plant pot ice cream at the end like I had before. Service were quick to move you on, didn’t get asked if we wanted extras. I definitely don’t think it was worth the money like last time.
Nice but not great.
Theming was very good and clever but savoury part (sandwiches etc) a real let down. Almost tried to be too clever and different.
Scones came with whipped cream not clotted cream - a crime in this country. Abroad maybe but should not happen in the place clotted cream comes from!!!
Tea selection fun and nice.
Service was friendly but had to remind them to bring extra drinks for kids.
Certainly above average but not great value at the price.
We sat at our table for over 12 mins without anyone talking any notice of us. Even with two (hungry) kids, no one even provided us with a drink or a menu. After 13 mins I approached a waitor, who replied ‘I’ll be with you shortly’ and then left us waiting Even longer. This was not a pleasant experience.
