Lucy Liu Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Food was nice, service was adequate but I had requested a special birthday dessert for my boyfriend as a surprise and called several times to confirm that on the conclusion of our meal it would be delivered, however that was not the case and I was presented with the bill instead, and it being a surprise I couldn’t say anything to the waiter, and ruin a surprise let alone his birthday night out.
I even messaged the restaurant the next day to let them know of my disappointment and haven’t heard back from anyone regarding the incident. I have to admit I left quite disheartened.
I have been to this restaurant on several occasions and always enjoyed it. However, I felt the whole thing had slipped since my last visit. The music was VERY loud, which made talking often difficult. I asked the waiter to turn it down but nothing seemed to change. The staff were rather young and often inattentive as we were middle-aged and not, I imagine 'groovy' enough for them.
Overall it was a bit underwhelming and I will not be returning despite some good food.
Very attentive and friendly service staff with a good knowledge of their menu. Our waiter brought out a little plate of mini tarts with a candle at the end as he had discovered that we were celebrating our daughter's birthday. Lively atmosphere and stylish, understated decor. We enjoyed a selection of small and large share plates. Food that we selected was seafood and meat based with well-balanced spices, fresh herbs and greens. Will definitely return. Thank you!
The food was delicious. We shared a couple of small plates and one large dish which was plenty. The pancake was recommended by the waiting staff and did not disappoint.
It was very busy and could be a bit noisy at times if you were near a larger group.
Overall, an enjoyable evening and I will go again.
We have been here multiple times before but something was just off on Friday night. Service was rushed and pushy and the food lacked care and depth of flavour.
Overall disappointing as we came down form Sydney and took some Melbourne friends who are foodies and we had raved about the experiences we have had previously........
Due to flash rain we arrived ten minutes or so late, as did most guests, and felt very rushed to leave so next guest could come in (given a very clear warning 20 minutes before the second sitting). They rang all early sitting guests to see how they were tracking but might have been better off to call later sitting and advise them to come 15 minutes later.
Great take on modern share tasting Asian cuisine. Service was good, food was tasty and reasonably priced. Staff were professional and fun.
We were rushed out at the end of our meal for the next booking at 7:00pm. Although when we booked we were told that our table was for 6:30 to 7:00, so not really an issue.
Typical Flinders Lane fare. Crushed seating that puts you uncomfortably close to your neighbours but at least there's no danger of overhearing their conversation. The thumping soundtrack that belongs in some hell hole Chapel Street club sees to that. Food is tasty enough and seems selected to be designed to be people pleasing rather than to any particular plan. It really is a mish mash that's hard to put your finger on. Wait staff were mostly attentive. Sometimes they failed totally. I think this as much because they can't hear diners over the uproar as anything else. If you like to spend your Friday's in South Yarra this probably seems like a great venue. Maybe not so much for the rest of us
We had the most amazing night! The food was great and the service was outstanding. The sommelier Michael, recommended perfectly matched wines to our meal and Rosie who looked after our table, was amazing at recommending the right amount of dishes and food choice. A very memorable night and would recommend Lucy Lui’s to anyone!
Not being from Melbourne, this was a last minute meal decision based purely on its central location and cool name. We were pleasantly surprised. Service was outstanding, food flavoursome and general vibe very cool but welcoming. It's noisy and the tables are close together so not the best for intimate, romantic dining but definitely worth a visit.
