Lucy Liu Restaurant
Take a journey through Southeast Asian cuisine sampling hot, sour, salty and sweet plates like a Sticky Braised Pork Belly with Red Chilli and Coconut Salad or a Slow Roasted Short Rib Rendang with Turmeric Pickles and Sambal. Match these with fresh and fruity cocktails in our bar while you wait for your casual table to be ready or sit down with a Coconut Mojito on arrival. Minutes from the MCG, Rod Laver Arena and right in the heart of Melbourne Lucy Liu’s great for any occasion.
One of our favourite restaurants, it was a last minute decision to book Lucy Liu, and thankfully they had a spot for us! The soft shell crab rolls hit the spot (as always), and we had the fried chicken, the sauteed greens and a few other small dishes. Sadly, the pacing was off this evening, with long wait times in between each dish.
We also selected the roti which the waitstaff kindly offered the rendang curry sauce to accompany it. It was a fantastic touch, however upon seeing the bill, we were charged for the curry despite not being informed prior to ordering. The roti was also quite oily on this occasion. Hope that this was a one-off off night and that when we return next, it will hit all the big spots again!
Food quality was awful, especially for the price. We did the 7 plate feast; kingfish sashimi on a cracker, which was 10 times cracker to kingfish. A tempura fried lobster betel leaf, which had someone told me was filled with chicken it would be easily believed. A fried chicken leg served with kewpie mayo and a lemon slice. Beef salad which was entirely bean sprouts, but at least it was seasoned with enough spice to give the impression someone had tried the dish before serving it. Then after a huge break, an extremely small lamb curry, a salmon fillet with a smashed cucumber garnish and an “Asian style” coleslaw, with a serve of jasmine rice so tiny you’d think we were paying by the grain. You can tell a restaurant’s food quality is bad when the best dish is the skin on the salmon fillet, something easily replicated at home. A man I have to assume was the manager also managed to get two drink orders wrong. We were dining as a group of 6 and to a person, all still hungry after leaving dinner. An incredibly disappointing experience.
Food was ok, a bit oily. Was looking for a wow factor after being recommended however did not find it. It is fine for a casual meal, but have had better elsewhere
Waiters not very attentive. Had to wait long time to order. Also showed now flexibility on lunch menu to accomodate dietary needs. Overall food was good and nice ambience.
Great ambiance. Had a really nice vibe about the place. However, we had a terrible experience. This was all to do with the one rude waitress. We ordered the buns and she said they didn’t have any left which was absolutely fine but her attitude and delivery was so condescending. “I could have helped you with buns had you ordered 10 minutes ago but you weren’t ready “. Anyway, when she finally came back to take our order I told her I was allergic to sesame oil and sesame seeds so could she please check what I could eat. Comes back from the kitchen and abruptly says, “you can only eat the following 6 things -sorry can’t really help you”. So sadly whilst we had been looking so forward to this experience we walked out and went round the corner to Chin Chin who were happy to help us. Even put a coloured coaster on the table to ensure that what was delivered was sesame free. Over our couple of days in Melbourne we ate at Movida, Nobu, Supernormal, Mr Miyake and Kisume - every experience was amazing. It is a pity that an individual like this can influence such an outcome.
Food was good but pork hock was burnt on the outside so couldn’t enjoy the crackle. There was one horribly rude bar staff that seemed to ruin the experience a little bit for us. I had to return a Champagne because it was flat and he said rude and argumentative about it. Besides that everyone else was great. Would go back again and hope for a better experience.
I have to say i was most disappointed.
It was a special family occassion and the service was terrible....
My husband and i have been numerous times to take friends and clients and have always enjoyed fantastic service and food, however i was so so disapppointed to finaly take my family for a family celebration and for the food to be sub standard ( e.g a lamb curry for 6 people to only have 2 pieces of lamb in the curry is not on) and for the service of upto 4 different staff bar and waiting service to be far from friendly or attentive.
So So disappointing.
Love Lucy Liu, the food is always fantastic. Service was a bit average, kitchen forgot one of the mains, and felt super rushed at the end. We waited for long for the main and then didn't had time to have dessert. The last person who charged tho changed the mood by being super friendly.
Amazing service - would like more wheat free food. Recommendations were great and good knowledge of food and wine
delicious food and drinks as always. tables were a bit too on top of each other though
Hello. Our waitress was quite good but it was apparent that her section was too large. There were a couple of occasions where we had no water or wine. The music (if you can call it that) was too loud. With that many people in restaurant The food saved the day especially the calamari salad dish. Slow roasted lamb was very tender but perhaps could have a little more flavour. The drink waiter (person who brought the drinks we ordered) was like a bull at a gate. He apologised to me twice and my wife once for bumping into us while hurrying between the tables. Maybe his section was too big also. Overall a little disappointed given the reputation of Lucy Liu.
Overall the restaurant has a good atmosphere and the service was great, however with a vast variety of Asian restaurants in Melbourne you can get better food for value at other restaurants. Food was good, but for the price you expect something great.
Amazing food & great service. Perfect for our special lunch with the team! We loved being able to view amazing chefs at work in the open kitchen.
Amazing food, service & all around vibe. However my only critique is as someone who despises coriander we ordered a few meals that were full of it and not stated on the menu! So couldn’t eat them unfortunately. Would recommend putting on the menu which meals contain coriander as we couldn’t eat 3 of the meals we ordered! Other than that excellent though.
Great Asian place in a very cool and genuine location. The atmosphere as well as the food were amazing!
The food was absolutely amazing, especially the king fish sashimi for entree and the ginger brûlée for dessert. Atmosphere of the restaurant was great and the staff were all so friendly and helpful when ordering. They even shouted us a free drink for it being my partners birthday. Great value for money, definitely will be going back!!
It has a nice atmosphere. Staff were friendly. Food was amazing
Met an old friend here recently for a mid-week dinner and as always the service, food and experience was top notch. We chose the Let Lucy Decide option and it was amazing - heaps of delicious share plates and plenty of variety. We also loved the fact that we didn’t feel rushed or pressured to leave straight after the meal so we could have a good chat. Highly recommend!
Staff were lovely and when asked if we could have a candle on one of the savoury dishes as it was a special birthday at the table, they did so without any fuss. Food was delicious!!
Great vibe in restaurant and the service was fantastic. Great for groups and date night.
Our wait staff was quite rude which left our total expierence lower than expected. As a regular Lucy Lui customer I absolutely love the food and ambience, however on this occasion the waitress wasn't friendly or accomodating.
Was delightful. Food amazing. Highlight was the Peking duck dumplings. Please note we did not have anything from the big plates. Ours as all shared. Next time will try big plates because we saw some amazing things come out. Loved it. Service fantastic
Loved our first visit at Lucy Liu's!
The food was absolutely delicious and loved every dish we ate.
Would highly recommend starting with a cocktail too!
The food is so amazingly delicious. The king fish sashimi is a must!
Delicious food and cocktails! We really enjoyed our dinner
My fav restaurant in the CBD because the food is yummy and the mojitos are delicious
The hardest thing is deciding what to eat as everything is noteworthy....don’t go past the Vietnamese Coffee ice cream & fried donut though.
Great food. We chose the 5 plate option and loved every meal selected. They even gave us different chicken dishes as my friend in unable to eat shellfish - above and beyond, loved it.
Lucy Liu is now one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne. The food is so fresh and delicious. The Pork Hock pancakes are amazing as well as the kingfish sashimi. The Bao buns are also very yummy.
The staff are always super friendly and helpful. It was my sisters birthday and they just went above and beyond to spoil her that night.
I will totally be back!
Excellent Melbourne restaurant. Food is consistently good.
The waitress was pushing us to buy more drinks and that was unpleasant.
Food was delicious but small portions and very expensive for the the portions that we’ve got.
We brought a cake and they didn’t bring the left overs back to us.
Great food and good wine list - good value for money
Wonderful and excellent service! We will definitely dine here again.
The whole experience here is always incredible. From the service to the the food, the drink (love the Floating Market) and the atmosphere. One of our favourite restaurants.
Awesome food with great atmosphere. Perfect for date night or group dining. One of my city favourite’s!
We love Lucy lui and regularly come in when in Melbourne love that we can either have a massive smorgasbord or just indulge in the Korean chicken buns and lots of nibble food
Great restaurant with amazing food and drinks. Happy to wait at the bar on arrival while table is being prepared and have a drink.
Vibe/ music and atmosphere were awesome. Will be going back for sure.
Fabulous food, but really, really noisy. So hard to hear your conversation with friends. Also, I think they need to be more transparent about their sittings. At 8:30 we were told we had to leave the table in 15 mins to make way for an 8:45pm booking. We only got there at 7pm. There was no mention of sittings when I booked, or if there was, it was too discreet and not clear enough.
The waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive in the beginning but got busy and forgot about us, even missing a drink order. Food was was awesome - light, refreshing and well balanced. We did get caught up with the waiters suggestion on the drink of the day, which cost $20 each unbeknown to us until the bill came.
Had lunch here on Saturday. food was unbelievable 👌👌, staff were friendly and made sure we didn’t go thirsty, or hungry!! Will be back!
