Permanently Closed - Longrain Sydney
Longrain, in Sydney, is a favorite dining destination among locals and visitors alike for its vibrant Asian fusion cuisine, served in its friendly and rustic restaurant. The Hiramasa kingfish spring roll with Thai basil and green chilies and the green mango and pear salad with chili jam, coconut and lime make tantalizingly fresh starter options. Some of Longrain's larger dishes include the stir-fried squid with curry powder, ginger and snow peas, the grilled black pepper pork with smoky eggplant relish and shrimp floss and the Thai fried chicken with lemon, spiced plum and nahm jim sauces. Vegetarian dishes, such as stir-fried tofu with mushrooms, zucchini and yellow bean and the spiced yellow curry with pumpkin, cauliflower and corn, are also popular with diners.
For a sweet end to your meal, enjoy Longrain's banana fritter with coconut sorbet, tamarind caramel and cocoa crumb as your dessert.

My husband and I ordered the banquet so we could try a few more dishes. The outstanding dishes for us were the beef curry and the caramelised pork hock, I also loved the black sticky rice dessert we ended our meals with. highly recommend.
I would probably suggest going in a group of 4+ because the main dining area includes 2 long tables, which they seat couples next to each other, meaning you would be facing another couple which you dine.
Great food, nice service, a bit noisy. I dont love the shared tables. makes conversation tricky
Delicious food, solicitous service...certainly one of the better dining establishments in Sydney.
Loved the food - knew it would be good - but it exceeded expectations
Will definitely be back as soon as I can
Such a lovely venue. Serving sizes very generous so next time we wont order as much, which is great for the hip pocket! Will definitely be back :)
Great night and as good as it always is . Food was inventive and worthy of a great night out . This time for a Sunday night the music was a little loud but really not an issue .
Amazing, next-level food experience. Highly recommended!
Delicious food & great service - definitely recommend!
The food and service was excellent as it has been the other times I've eaten there. However the table is too large to have a comfortable conversation, as you have to tell at the people sitting opposite. Other people next to you are also very loud and it's a bit unpleasant. There could also be more vegetarian options.
The oysters were awful. Too much stuff on them trying to mak the bitter flavour. Servers forgot about us asking for the check. Asked us for more drinks instead. Staff didn’t smile or seem friendly. Even when I asked how her night was. I didn’t feel welcome
Exceptional, authentic and creative dining experience. Our group of 8 had a great evening with excellent dishes, great service, good atmosphere and very good value.
Highly recommended - we will be back!
I had high expectations - but Longrain still managed to over-deliver! Three of us shared three small dishes and one main. Every single dish was extremely good; basically modern takes on thai cuisine. The portions were also generous, so great for sharing. Will be back!
The Longrain staff made sure we were served in time to get to the theatre. Great food and knowledgeable, friendly staff.
Thanks Longrain
I had not been to this restaurant for years and brought my family along to try for the first time.
They hated the communal dining experience as we had to listen to two groups of corporate people prattle on about superficial BS. Overall the food was OK but really did not enjoy the signature dish of eggnet as it was too sweet. We pretty well left it untouched and the wait staff did not even ask why? Disappointing
We had a Group of 11 on Saturday night and could not fault anything round table was great for conversation amongst all at anytime and the food was amazing.
My wife and I are returning to melbourne but will definitley be visiting Long grain down there
Sensational flavours, great service, good ambience
The food was outstanding couldn't fault one single dish. The waiter offered us the banquet deal and it was such good advice as we got to try multiple dishes that we wouldn't of chosen ourselves that we loved! Definitely very accomodating!
Longrain was suggested to us by both our daughters who love dining there! We a great dinner, the menu is fabulous with wonderful fresh ingredients and superb flavours
Really worthwhile. Interesting food. Fabulously cooked.
Hearing each other was a little bit of a challenge- that would be my main criticism!
The food was an explosion on the taste buds, everything tasted amazing! Wine was delish! Service was outstanding.
What a disappointing experience.I'm not sure what has happened here but Longrain is not the restaurant it used to be. The entrees were, without exception, overly sweet and bland. The mains fared a little better but both the Five Spice Pork Hock and the Fried Chicken with Turmeric were tragically overcooked and all but inedible as they were so dry.Fair enough it's not fine dining but it's also not your local corner Thai. With the bill for 6 of us coming in at just under $800.00 I would have to say it doesn't represent value for money.Use to be a fave but won't bother coming back after this experience.
Food was wonderful. Not the cheapest, but worth it.
Good food that will impress first timers. Friendly and knowledgeable waiters with great recommendations.
Brilliant as always - caramelised pork hock keeps delivering!
Great food, great service form our Aussie/ Polish waiter. Will definitely be back.
Exceptional food, a highlight on my trip to Sydney.
Great restaurant for a special occasion or a catch up with close friends over good food and wine.
Longrain never disappoints with food and quality. One of the biggest stand outs is the level of service from staff and the special way they manage to top up drinks, deliver food and take away plates without being unintrusive.
Loved this restaurant! Very imaginative Thai. Flavors were unique and outstanding. Lives up to its reputation. Favorites were the yam bean salad, pork hock, and fried chicken but everything was great.
Food was absolutely fabulous as always. All dishes we ate were great but the Egg Net, Deep Fried Snapper and the Massaman beef were outstanding
Still an excellent restaurant after all these years of operation. Communal dining format was once trendy but now it's just lacking in privacy. Staff could do with a reminder that it's about the diners not themselves. Food continues to be wonderful
I love the ambiance of this place. The food was delicious, I loved the Asian greens, massaman curry and pork hock. I would definitely come back to try more dishes. I had the sticky black rice pudding for dessert which is very memorable. Can't wait for the next time we can dine here. Service was great too.
Delicious tasty food and nice ambience. A little noisy but great to have a group of friends to share a variety of dishes together.
Large portions! Delicious food. It was hard to catch a waiter/ess' eye when we wanted to make another order though. Tables were very wide and so difficult to have conversations from across the table ( we ended up all sitting in the same row )
We were there for a special farewell dinner for an friend returning overseas. Had also been looking for a great Thai restaurant and found a great answer in the Longrain
Everything was great except they missed one plate off our order (the Pork) which we only realised towards the end of the evening when it was too late.
What we had was delicious but as a shared plate we expected just a little more to share.
4 of us dining.
We had the prawn dish - 6 prawns? 8 would have been better
We had the snapper - again the portions of fish didn't quite cater to the 4 of us.
Third time here and on this occasion disappointing main courses especially the chicken which was large dry pieces on the bone, and the kingfish which was in a heavy sticky sauce.
Well what can be said about this Gem.It's consistent which is why its been around now for almost two decades.Excellent service, food and the cocktails are fresh ,invigorating, colourful worth every cent.
I ordered the Banquet and they were very obliging to meet my vegetarian needs. So much food.
I took a friend who was visiting from Germany who is on a world tour and he went beck four times during his stay here in Sydney.
Delightful.
Another great night at Longrain. We had a mix of dietary requirements at our table and everyone was well catered for. Highlights - whole snapper; tofu; green curry with prawns!
Amazing dinner! Great service and atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in having a nice night out in Sydney.
I was going for the caramelized pork hock and it was as good as I remembered. Lots of room in the restaurant, very spacious. The dishes are meant to be shared so go with a group of friends!
The service was just average at best.
