Not sure if kitchen staff was having difficulties/new, but the food was not like I remember it. Ordered the Smoked Prime Rib, and while the meat was good and generous portion, could not taste the “smoked flavor” and it seemed like it needed a little more saltiness. Maybe have been due to Au Jus having been poured over the Prime Rib, or was swimming in it, but it must have washed away the smoked flavor that should have been present on the outside? As I recall from last time. Second, the roasted vegetables did not add to the presentation, tho flavor I hear was good. For the price, would have liked to have seen a baked potato, which I think was part of the dish when I came before, and Au Jus and the horseradish should be simple and flavorful, not to detract from the prime rib. Lastly, I had the mushroom and scallop risotto, but disappointed that, again for the price, I expected a regular sized, tender and juicy/flavorful scallop, not a dried out, tiny scallop about the size of a thimble. And the risotto is normal cooked slowly to get the creamy flavorful texture, but this instead, lacked flavor, was swimming in oil, or butter had separated, and the rice kernels were not like risotto, more like regular rice, still grains of rice, in some kind of “sauce”, rather than the luscious creaminess of risotto. Lastly, had couple of vegetarians/vegans that came along, one could eat seafood, so she had crab cakes, which she said were very good, but the other, who was vegan, asked for just plain, steamed veggies but got instead the roasted veggies, I think from the Prime Rib dish? Initially she was told it was cooked in Au Jus, which was not acceptable, then that they added a bit of soy sauce, which she clearly asked to be cooked plain, due to wheat/gluten intolerance, then after being told it did not have either of those, she saw walnuts, which she is allergic to, and was asked if she could just remove, and they charged $28 for.

The food was good, but the service was disappointing. It took over an hour to receive our appetizer and entrées. One staff member seemed disengaged and made little effort to assist, while the younger gentleman behind the bar did his best to manage the bar and serve us. We appreciated him removing the soup from our bill and offering dessert on the house, but by that point, we were simply tired of waiting. Better staffing and coordination in the kitchen would have made a big difference.

Not sure what happened as I have had positive experiences at Livestock Tavern before. We were greeted and seated promptly, and the waiter came by to take our drink and then food orders. Time passed and the four of us were chatting when we realized we had been in the restaurant for 45 minutes without getting our meals. The restaurant had filled up and other diners who arrived after us were already eating. We called the waiter over to check on our orders and he assured us the meals were on the way. 10 minutes later he delivered an appetizer “on the house” and again assured us the food was coming. A few minutes later a salad arrived, then nothing for a while. The waiter did offer to comp our meals, but we had tickets to a show, so after waiting over an hour we left. Hopefully the restaurant will fix whatever caused this failure.

We are foodies...Live on Oahu. Have owned restaurants. Have eaten and imbibed at nearly 100 restaurants. Livestock Tavern a winner. Our second time for brunch. Some of the best clam chowder ever. Maryland crab cake benedict delicious. Huge lamb sandwich and so tasty. Sophia a charming, effective server that does everything. Chef wears many hats, too. A nice man. Kamaaina discount available, which means they get it, and want to be successful. Try it ...you will thank yourselves.

Food was really good! It was hard to choose because everything on the menu sounded yummy. They serve lots of comfort food cooked to perfection! I need to come back so I can try other things but we really liked everything we ordered: the lobster pasta, and the burger, as well as the chop salad. Mahalo Livestock Tavern!

The food portions were large and the wine pour was generous. The prime rib was properly cooked and was excellent. Parking in the lot next door was available but it took us 10 minutes to pay with the on-line system.
