We invite you to come dine with us in the back streets and alleyways of Asia. We created a restaurant that uses choice raw materials and authentic cooking styles that results in a taste that truly fulfills and satisfies the soul. We are not simply interested in well-presented or well-plated food, we are more interested in a taste that meets our high expectations. We learn and borrow from the best of the Asian cuisines - Penang, Japanese, Chinese and Peranakan food - and at times fuse them with Western culinary techniques, methods and ingredients. “Hutong”, by definition, is a narrow lane or alleyway in Beijing City. In Ancient China, many of the recipes, tastes and cooking styles that have now become well-known Chinese cooking, were formulated and eventuated in these back lanes and alleyways. In South East Asia, they gave rise to the “mamak” stalls, Peranakan cuisines and “hawker” food. We hold dear to these traditions as a standard to strive for at Little Hutong.

We absolutely loved our experience at Little Hutong. The food was delicious, we loved the special Chinese New Year Lion dance & the waitress was very helpful. We came with several kids who all demanded a return visit!

The Malaysian fushion food here is wonderful. The traditional Malay dishes are superb and the fushion dishes are interested and yummy. This neighbourhood gem is worth the trip from anywhere in Sydney.

We booked a table for 2 at 5:45 to enjoy the Lunar new Year show as adverised on fb. I tried to call the restaurant the next day (Friday) to confirm and get some information but nobody picked up the phone as they open only at night on the weekdays. They called me later and they left me a message asking to be there at 5:30. They promised a complimentary entree. We could not make it before 5:45. When we arrived we were told we could not order food until the end of the show. We order a couple of traditional Malaysian teas. The waitresses not long after started to come to the table to take our order when the show was not even started. We never got our teas: when we were ready to order food about 15 min later, we asked about our drink and guess what they did not have the traditional Malaysian tea. They told us we got an old menu by mistake. We ordered some wontons to start with, Laksa with prawns and coconut rice with curried beef. The wontons were just ok but the rest of the food was outstanding.
We also got some matcha tea and a coconut milkshake.
The lion dance show was great but my date was expecting fire crackers as well as advertised. I guess they were cancelled because of the poor weather.
When I paid the bill at the register, I was approached by a man who called my name and asked me how was everything and if I had been to the restaurant before. I did not want to be the drama customer so I said that the food was good and that we came out mainly because of the show. I was honestly disappointed with the service and embarassed I could not strike my date with an outstand overall dining experience as I hoped for.
We did not receive anything complimentary.

We were pleasantly surprised at the quality interesting food. The servings were generous and very well presented. The service was efficient and friendly. We were entertained by the Valkerie trio who played great Jazz and the lead singer Joy Yhang was amazing !!

Great atmosphere and decor, with a tasteful menu, Little Hutong is bound to please those with an appetite for modern Asian cuisine. Service is attentive, however portions are slightly smaller than one might expect from the price point. Bring your trendy friend or your mum; the restaurant is chic but approachable.

Everything was wonderful except the waitress who served us as we were 25 min late and our booking is 5.30 pm. When we arrived I told her that I have booking at 5.30 pm and she said well it is 6 pm now. I think that was a bit rude otherwise foods are beautiful.

Little Hutong is a family favourite of ours. The food is delicious but mostly the staff are most welcoming and friendly who make you feel at home and almost like family. Bravo to everyone there. Little Hutong is a real gem.
