It was enjoyable. I really liked the quality of food, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The only thing I wish is that the dishes were more... Balanced? Like food to... Food you eat. The fried chicken in the picture below was the best fried chicken I've ever had, but the dish was like 80% Chili's and onions. Still. Delicious nonetheless. Will come again.
Everything was fine except it took 21 minutes to get our first cocktail after being seated.
We had a wonderful time at Lionhead! The staff is very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the ambiance and had fun trying new dishes. The food is delicious and we will definitely come back for more!
Spicy food, hearty portions; lively setting. Very professional staff. Good vibe. I would go back!
Great food. Great wait staff.
Felt like I was back in China with the fragrant flavors. Yum.
Fun,resourceful menu prepared and delivered with precision and pleasure. A neighborhood gem and more. Been there enough to know each occasion is special,no wearing down of quality or uniqueness...a pleasure
Friend was visiting and we wanted good Chinese.
The food was just ok - it’s been going downhill since before Jerry sold it (guess this is a new owner?)
Way way understaffed for a Sunday of a 3day weekend
Not bad - jus blah.
My experience was good until we had 2 issues with our food that resulted in us just ending our dining experience quickly. It was made correct by the team, and the encouragement to come back was sincere.
I will still be on the fence when it comes to returning, but I am willing to give it another shot down the road.
Food was great especially the eggplant salad, soy skin roll, and blistered okra. The place was packed on a Friday night and noise level was very loud as might be expected.
This is Gourmet Chinese food! Everything is delicious and the service is outstanding! If you love Sichuanese Chinese food then you will love eating here. The Won Tons in Chile Oil are my favorite!
We are lucky to have Lionhead in our neighborhood here in Capitol Hill.
I love this food! The flavors and textures are outside my common culinary experience and unlike other Chinese restaurants I've enjoyed.
We had a fabulous meal! The bartender made great recommendations and the food was outstanding!
The food was rich in flavor, most items on the menu are prepared spice (either traditional spice or “numbing” spice) but can be adjusted if needed. We ordered 6 dishes but 7 showed up, and we definitely had too much food. A couple people in the group had a slight upset stomach, but that could be because we aren’t used to eating those types of spices. Would go back and try again!
This restaurant was amazing; the best Szechuan food we have ever had and great service. We really enjoyed it. The eggplant strips, Dan Dan noodles, and wontons were must haves.
Truly wonderful Sichuan-inspired dishes. Can’t wait to go back.
Insanely good, all of it. Amazing customer service as well
I’ve been visiting Lionhead every Christmas Eve for five years now and it’s always a treat. Benjamin is a magnificent front-of-house man and Garrett’s kitchen is never less than spot-on. That kind of professionalism is such a nice thing to be able to depend on—not to mention rare. Here’s to keeping the tradition alive in 2020 and beyond.
The atmosphere at Lionhead is great. It's a smaller restaurant so a decent level of noise is unavoidable, but the decor is clean and attractive. A lot of Chinese restaurants I've been to lack polish when it comes to presentation, so this was a nice step above. The food was delicious. You can try a lot of different dishes at their price points and share with dining companions. I loved the pork wontons the most (hongyou chaoshou) but everything was great. Cocktails were unique and enjoyable (also saved me from a former negative experience with baijiu). One thing I really appreciated was that, for a Sichuan place, the numbing flavor was never overdone. Even in dishes that had the highest rating for numbness, it never overwhelmed the food's flavors as I've experienced in some other locations. The serving staff was very pleasant and made time to check in even when they were slammed.
The waitstaff was so accommodating. Have a food allergy and most of the dishes had the ingredient in them. They were nice enough to find a couple of items on the menu and it was great. One has to like The style of food. Lots of oil and numbing sauce. If so a great place. Staff was awesome. Parking tight.
This is our second visit to Lionhead. What a wonderful spot. Staff and the dishes were terrific. I wish the restaurant was closer to my home so i could visit more often.
This was my first dining experience at Lionhead. We had excellent bar service and the bar tender was very knowledgeable about the nuance of the menu. We had a stellar and attentive waiter. The food was absolutely delicious! We sampled a variety of dishes, all of which we enjoyed. I look forward to returning to Lionhead very soon.
Lionhead continues to be our favorite restaurant in Seattle even with new ownership. The quality of the food, served family style for max enjoyment and sharing, cocktails, and service is unparalleled.
I’ve been to Lionhead many times and it’s one of my favorites. But the food wasn’t as good as it has been in the past. Which was disappointing.
Great menu and food.
The location was excellent for my event: going to a concert at Cornish.
The food could definitely be improved. We ordered: Lamb dumplings, Yu Choy with chilies and garlic, and Twice-cooked pork. The Lamb dumplings tasted good, but the filling was dry and course-textured. It could’ve benefited from additional fat and stirred with a chopstick to create a springy texture. The greens were undercooked (they should’ve been blanched first), the handful of chillies were not lightly browned and infused into the oil (in spite of all the chilies, the dish was not spicy), and the sliced garlic was undercooked and overwhelming. The garlic probably should have been whole, crushed cloves infused into the cooking oil. Also some ginger would’ve been nice. We also ordered Twice-cooked pork, which was much better, but a bit muddy flavored and insufficiently spicy. The folks in the kitchen need to go to a few Sichuan restaurants in the ID or Eastside to get a better handle on what Sichuan food should really taste like.
The service was great, though.
Rockfish was delicious! The throwback hiphop soundtrack was such a good vibe and perfect for our birthday party of 9. Food is served family style and our waiter was very helpful and attentive. I would definitely come back to try the other dishes.
I wanted it to be better. Food was all too saucy. Flavors were pretty good.
How did I not realize that this wonderful restaurant has been here since 2015? Because we always went to Poppy. An early dinner at Lionhead was excellent. Good choices of beers on tap. Silky Eggplant cold appetizer was perfectly cooked, slithered down. The whole trout was delicious, and our server expertly boned it at the start, removing the backbone, but (of course, it's trout) lots of bones remained, so be forewarned. The crowning dish was the Steamed Silken Tofu in a dynamite sauce. They don't offer a sorbet for dessert, which would have been perfect, but my husband enjoyed the Fried Bao Bites. Great wait staff, attractive room. Looking forward to a return.
The food was delicious and plentiful. The seasoning was perfect. The gradations of heat/spiciness were quite comfortable. The lowest heat was mild and gradually worked up from there.
Absolutely spectacular once again.
we love this place. also great for vegans. lots of fun dishes to share
Flavors were bold and tasty. We were worried about heat of sichuan but it was perfectly balanced. Cocktails were inventive. We received such friendly, neighborly service from the bartender and owners that we stayed at the cozy bar to enjoy our meal.
Thanks to Garrett and the entire Lionhead staff, the food is always unbelievably amazing. The drinks and service are too. This is my favorite restaurant in Seattle and I recommend it to anyone who likes spice, or Sichuan.
After the first visit, Lionhead has immediately become one of our favorites, for both food and service.
We enjoyed the clean casual style of the place enhanced by a beautiful many-paneled painting on one wall and a couple of carved wooden sculptures on the other. Lanterns hanging over each table added more charm.
Our waiter (Garret) was awesome - friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable. We got lots of his attention on our first visit and a bit less than we wanted on our second one which happened to be Friday night (definitely need more people on the floor). We also noticed how he talked to other customers, going into details explaining the ingredients and recommending dishes/drinks. A great guy!
The food was really good. They specialize in Szechuan cuisine and use lots of citrusy mouth-numbing Szechuan peppercorns as wells as hot peppers. The dishes can be really spicy, though there are some milder options on the menu as well. We recommend the dumplings (tried all of them and liked all the kinds with lamb jaozi being our most favorite). Loved the radish cakes: nice crunch outside, soft inside, great flavor overall. A generous serving, too! Homemade buckwheat noodles were really good. As was an entrée rockfish dish. This one was really spectacular, though very spicy and needed rice as a side. We also enjoyed five spice braised duck, however the sirloin in chili cumin beef was somewhat chewy (need to sharpen my teeth).
Lionhead offers an extensive list of baijiu (Chinese distilled liquor usually made with sorghum) served in 1.5 oz shots. We tried 6 during our two visits there and they were delicious. They also make a bunch of tasty cocktails. I enjoyed 5 spice old fashioned (though second time around had to return my drink to add more of 5 spice) and husband loved Four Rivers that included Szechuan peppercorns infused vodka. Loved it so much we went to buy a pack of Szechuan peppercorns and a bottle of vodka to make our own.
The verdict: we highly recommend!
Fabulous place, it was our first time. Was busy when we arrived so recommend reservations . Our server was helpful and knowledgeable. He didn't try to oversell . Food was so amazing! Our drink order was forgotten but other than that 10+!
Great food, great value and Service, price fine. Really recommended
Overall it was good. Could have been gear if it was not too noisy. Some dinners were really loud. It’s really hard to have conversation with our parties without “shouting”.
Delicious food, definitely the best Chinese food I had in Cap Hill. Reasonable prices for the portion sizes. Family style is a must.
