Lena's has a very inviting atmosphere and a great vibe. The service was excellent and very friendly. However for all the great setup, the food is only average. The pizza and marinara sauce is rather bland and lacked much spice or flavor. Unfortunately that is pretty much the base for everything else so it brings the whole menu to average. The pizza crust was a great consistency and had a nice crunch as well as chew, but overall just dull taste. Fun place but better for happy hour and the taps than for dinner.
This was a random pick for my wife's birthday dinner on a trip to dc, we were blown away by everything we ordered and the staff was incredibly helpful and personable. I would give this place 37 stars
Food was great especially for price, it’s hard to keep a tab for family of four in delray under $50. $42 with tip.
Hard to hear, conversations due to music but this is a sports bar.
Great pizza for those who need gluten free crust. The new GF crust is delicious! Attentive service, nice selection of food. Great restaurant!
My favorite brunch place since the mimosas with sherbet are amazing! Mango is our favorite one. They also have bellinis and a Bloody Mary bar! Menu is versatile from breakfast options, oversized salads, pizza/panini, and homemade pasta’s such as gnocchi, lasagna, etc..Everything we have eaten here has been excellent and we go regularly. Brunch drinks are discounted after your first! And lastly, their outdoor seating is great when the weather permits!
This was our first visit. I'm a lover of pizza but found their Margherita very disappointing. The sauce tasted as if it was tomato paste straight from a can. And the crust was tough. I will say, it was the worst pizza I've ever had. Perhaps is was an off night. I don't know. Staff was friendly and attentive. I may go back, but not for pizza.
Hadn't been to Alexandria for awhile and was delighted to find Lena's . Had dinner w an old friend, and the food, service, and ambiance couldn't have been better. Our waitress, and I apologize for not asking her name, was the best. Efficient, friendly, had great suggestions about the food when asked, didn't rush us, perfect! Sorry I don't live in the neighborhood, this would definitely be a go to weekday dinner spot. Thanks Lenas!
Went on a Monday night in February so no Monday Night Football, no Olympics, etc. Essentially the place was full but not crowded at the bar that would demand a lot of the servers attention. Our server was distracted and didn’t check in with us, which is ok until you don’t have any more water and that’s what you are drinking. She also didn’t clear our appetizer and salad plates when our pizza arrived, it was clear we were done as there was no food left on our appetizer and salad plates and we had to stack them awkwardly on our table to make room for our pizza. Food is reliably good.
The food- Diavola pizza. Dough was excellent. Great balance of spice. Excellent habanero sauce.
The food was really good!!! Except there's no refills on lemonade!!!!!
Friendly local restaurant near the Braddock Metro. Great menu including different pizza selections. Large comfortable outdoor seating space for hanging out in nice weather. The servers are friendly and very attentive. If you want to hang with a few friends with some cold drinks, good food and not feel rushed, this is the place to go.
The pizza is quite good. There are reasonably priced wine choices.
Great service from Steve!
Have visited Lena’s a few times, always have had great service and food. But my last visit was especially great - server was helpful with wine selection and food selection, and overall he was so patient and polite. We ordered off the specials menu (Valentine’s Day Special) and it was awesome - unique recipe, generous service size (but not overly huge), cooked perfect, and delicious.
We love this hopping neighborhood joint. Each time we visit, the staff makes the experience. Food is reliably above par.
Nice and friendly staff. Good food and excellent service
Could not have had better service. From the time we walked in, to when we walked out was super attentive, personable, efficient and professional. Service at table was exceptionally good. Probably the best osso bucco I’ve had in a long time.
We were in town for a soccer tournament so this restaurant popped up on open door. I was impressed with the selection of home made pasta along with the wood fired pizza. I highly recommend both! Our server , Terrance was the bomb! He was attentive and memorized our order. I would recommend getting there early as you need to be creative in finding a parking place. Definitely a 5 star restaurant.
Lots of fun, a little loud when filled, attentive service, great food. However, bring some type of light for reading the menus which are printed on darker paper in small type. I thought it was just us because we are older, but saw several 30-somethings using their smart phones to read the menu. Either better table light, reprint the menus, or provide customers with a light while reading menu (Proof in DC does this).
Really good pizza!! One of the best in the area
Pizza was very good. The dining space was cozy and comfortable.
Food here is consistently poor and zero value. Come on Yates family stop ripping off the neighborhood. Pretty place, good location. Hire a cook that knows how to cook Italian food. Between the tiny portion size at a full entree price and nothing tastes like it should. On my most recent visit, I ordered the special, Penne Vodka that tasted nothing like it should and 2 Manicotti entree. The waiter warned my husband on the small portion size and offered a side salad at an additional fee. Most restaurants would serve this dish as an appetizer. You get no bread or salad with your entree and the meals are super small and taste like my kid made them. I keep going here because I live in the neighborhood but the food quality is very bad!
I've been to Lena's a handful of times. The food is really good. I was a little disappointed this last time, I had made a reservation and when I arrived they said they were cleaning up my table. Two other couples without a reservation came in after me and got seated before I did. After waiting about 10 minutes we were finally seated. I'm hoping that is a one time experience.
However, the food never disappoints. Their pizza is always good! The Diavola with Kale and Salami is always an easy choice! The wait staff is friendly and prompt. I would definitely recommenced this place!
Very busy Friday night. 545 reservation. Sat promptly. Waited 30 minutes to get our drink order and 10 minutes more to get drinks. Very frustrating. Waiter was too busy to take care of us. Great food. Given wrong dessert. Good price for fresh ingredients.
The draft beers and pizza crust are the main reasons to go to Lena's. The atmosphere and actual flavors not so much. We've been going to Lena's for a couple of years now, and the overall experience is in steady decline due to the lack of inspiration in their flavors. I kind of dislike this term, because I feel it has become quite trite in the food world, but in this case it is spot on; the pizza at Lena's has become rather pedestrian. :/ I can't speak to any other entrees as we have only had pizza every time we visit. The perfect example was the visit for which I am submitting this review. We had the meatball pizza, which we'd never had before. When you think meatball, you think a well salted, heavy garlic and traditional Italian spices infused in the meat, gobs of melted mozz on a zesty sauce bathed in shaved Parmesan and crushed red pepper. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it. But unfortunately, the pizza delivered on NONE of that. The meatball was as bland as I've ever had. The sauce was uninspired, and the cheese was a little rubbery and we weren't even offered Parm or peppers. The place is packed ALL the time, so IMO it must be the beers on tap, which are exceptionally good. The first few times we visited a couple of years ago we raved about the pizza, but as time has gone on I hate to say that we are less and less impressed. I unfortunately see a time in the near future when we will begin to look for a new place for pizza. :| The one thing that has never wavered though, in addition to the great beer, is good service and excellent food prep times. :)
Pizza and salad were fantastic, great selection of beers. Very kid friendly.
The restaurant is not very allergy-friendly. My son has a number of food allergies and there was not much he could eat there.
Convenient location, excellent service, good food.
We are local and have patronized Lena's from the beginning. I'm not sure if the last meal was indicative of a decline or just an off night. Service was fine, no complaints. Food - not so much. The calamari was over salted and no flavor to sauce (other than salt). My wife ordered the beet salad, expecting it to be like a beet salad experienced by many of the local restaurants. Most restaurants would service sliced beets (highlight of dish) with then cheese and greens, maybe a nice dressing. The salad from Lena's looks like a 4-year old made it - spinach thrown on the plate with maybe 8 1/4" cubes of beets thrown on top and some sort of tasteless over salted dressing. We've never sent a salad back until this experience. Pizza was OK... for not being crowded - the pizza felt rushed, and on the undercooked side (a slice would be limp and soggy). We'll give it one more chance, but then after that there's plenty of other local places for this price point.
Great little find. Really excellent Italian food. Will be back when I am in the DC area
Good food and good service.
Excellent food and service. Steve, our waiter, was very friendly and attentive even on a busy night
Really enjoyed this visit to Lena’s; great food and drink with responsive service.
Had dinner with a friend. We had the polenta fries and the fall salad with salmon. Both were very good. Will go back to try the pizza. It was loud and the seating was very cramped.
Lena's is okay. The food, decor, and service are good. But there's nothing special about it.
Noise level worst ever. Seated at table by bar. Difficult to carry on conversation because of noise from bar, tv, and music playing. Next time will request table far from bar or will wait for warmer weather so can sit outside. Food delicious as always!
The food was OK -- but not something you would make a reservation for. The host was really nice the waiter was slow (20 min for a drink order) and the table was an after thought crammed in next to the cash register. The food was good but not an event... I've had worse pizza and I've had better pizza. It wasn't awful.
Parking is good -- and free. A pretty good perk in the DC area.
The food was served quickly and tasted delicious. We ordered the seasonal vegetable pizza (added cheese), pepperoni pizza, and a chicken parmesan. All were delicious. The beer selection was excellent too. The only drawback is that it was a bit loud and hard to hear the folks at our table. Will definitely go again.
Love Lena’s it’s a family restaurant and everyone is so nice. We enjoy going for Pizza and a burger.
The pizza is the thing they best! Good vegetarian panini, too!
