I've eaten at Le Monde several times and have always enjoyed the ambience and the food. However, because of the COVID pandemic the restaurant, as well as all businesses, had to adapt to the situation. Therefore, I gave my lunch four stars instead of five simply because their overhead heat lamp was not (at least for me) sufficient to keep me comfortably warm. The outside space which they installed for the pandemic is completely open on one side (understandably) and so the cold air was difficult to avoid. Therefore my one "complaint" is that their heat lamps are sub-par and I'd hope they could install stronger ones. Other than that, their food (today was onion soup and BLT) was absolutely delicious, and their service was as always, wonderful.
They did a great job during Covid-19. Steak frites and duck were both excellent, and tuna tartare was particularly good. Service is always friendly and attentive there. My only suggestion is to have some good local beers available. Beer list is particularly bad.
Always a nice experience.
A personal go-to favorite restaurant that's set up well for Covid winter outdoor dining.
Outdoor dining as we are in cooler temps is a real challenge and Le Monde is doing an exemplary job at it! It was a very mild evening so we did not need the overhead heat lamp provided - I have dined there and used this before and it is great! We both had the moules and frites - both really excellent! The tables are very well spaced and the evening was just wonderful.
Everything was stupendous, the device was unequaled
Great food - friendly service and most important- great heat lamps for outdoor dining!
The neighborhood would be vastly deprived if Le Monde were to disappear or not be available (this is Covid time). A boon to the neighborhood not only as a bistro but also as a long standing gathering place for locals and out of towners. There is a reason it is usually crowded.
Love this neighborhood french bistro on the UWS! The service is always friendly and they treat you well.
Service was incredibly cordial and welcoming....more so than ever before!
Great food and service , loved the tuna tartare and the Burrata , wild mushroom ravioli and the duck were amazing, Alon the GM is a great host , he made sure that we enjoyed our evening, can’t wait to return .
Mussels were not cleaned properly and there was sand and rocks in at least half of the mussels. The salmon risotto dish was greasy. Drinks were god awful slow.
The host/manager was very accommodating and pleasant, with a cheerful, welcoming smile. The waiter was friendly and attentive, the food good. It's a great neighborhood restaurant and we are delighted they're open!
Dined there (lunch) with my 100 year old aunt, who is very much alive and interesting. She loves going there, and the waitperson remembered us from our last visit, which was a sweet plus. Thank you!
Wonderful food, though they forgot to bring us the main course. Still, great eating! Great French restaurant!
Abbreviated menu and their best items were not available. Asked for my lamb chops rare cane medium well but were still soft as butter and delicious. Looking forward to going back see hen fully opened
I felt very safe with the outdoor dining setup. The food was great and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. My meal here has been the highlight of a very challenging summer.
Well, things are different now. Our table was on the edge of the sidewalk, between two parking meters, a foot from the street. When a city bus came by we all had to suspend our conversation until it passed and we could once again hear each other. And, needless to say, there was no air conditioning to mitigate the muggy summer evening. That said, it was nice to be back at LeMonde, and the waiters did a terrific job under difficult circumstances. The Vietnamese chicken salad was no doubt healthy but pretty bland. Tip to kitchen: wake up the dressing a bit, try lime juice, a little more soy, perhaps some fish sauce, and a touch of brown sugar or molasses. The cocktails were great!
Food was good, eating on the street was less appealing but a necessary evil
First outdoor meal in phase 2 of re-opening NYC after 15 weeks of stay at home quarantine because of Covid-19 virus for three older friends. One has had the virus.
We had an end table under the red awning for 11 am brunch on a hot Sunday. Food, service, menu were fine. Le Monde understands current Covid-19 health precautions. Reservations accepted. We would not have liked being at the tables which did not have some protection from the sun. Willing to return.
We came here on the evening of July 4th. The outdoor seating is fantastic. We came for the burgers & fries, which were just OK.
Food was OK, excellent service, beautiful location.
Food and service was amazing. I enjoyed the presentation of the food.
Good Bar and Restaurant. Had a Good Time
I’ve eaten lunch here several times and it’s fine. Nothing memorable but service is good, ambience is”cozy French bistro” and food is ok. My one disappointment is their onion soup, as it’s usually too watery for my taste with not enough thick cheese to cover its entire top. In my humble opinion French onion soup should always have a thick somewhat crispy slab of melted cheese covering the entire crock, as I’ve always eaten it in France. Otherwise their lunch menu is fine
Best French restaurant in NYC the service was incredible!
The kitchen was very slow - it took 50 minutes to get our meal. We arrived at 6:40 and need to leave by 7:30. Food arrived at 7:25! Ruined our meal.
Lovely French spot near Columbia. Service a bit slow but friendly. Comfort food French style. Not gourmet but solid!
It’s always good!
Unfortunately it appeared they were short staffed and our apps took 50 min. We generally have good service there so it was a surprise.
We were a group of 5. We waited an hour an a half for our food to arrive.
Love the classic French bistro style food, and the the drink menu is amazing. Outside dinning is available in the warm weather months so I will be back.
The food is good but the restaurant is consistently let down by patchy, if not poor, service. We have been here several times and the story is always the same - a very nice range of dishes, hit or miss service. This was not a busy night, even though this is Saturday evening in a lively, moderately well-heeled area adjacent to Columbia University, and I requested on the Open Table app a window table. We were seated right at the back of the restaurant against a wall. Oh well. On arrival, barely any greeting from the host. It took quite some time to order three drinks. They were out of tonic water (what??) so gin and tonic was not available. The drinks then took an age to come and it took even longer to order the food and then to get the food. The bussing staff seemed to be working hard but we hardly saw our waiter all evening until he came to give us the check. Considering the area, nicer eating places are a bit thin on the ground. I guess this lack of competition is how Le Monde gets away with it despite the indifferent service. I will say, however, that the food was very good - organic roast chicken, roasted cod, a decent burger - and the drinks including a Manhattan and a house pinot noir were all very tasty. So yes, I suppose I would recommend it to a friend. Only just though.
Usually Le Monde is good. Tonight at 7:30 pm they had run out of four of their main meals.
The food was delicious and I’ll definitely go back.
Great neighborhood restaurant with consistently reliable service and food.
We took out our nephew, a real foodie visiting from CA and he loved it. It was refreshing to be in a quiet restaurant where we could actually talk. All the food was delicious and it was a tremendously enjoyable meal.
food is getting better and better. Very good sea bass. Barbara much liked cassoulet and ANne also her duck confit
The service and the food are always excellent at Le Monde!
very good food except for the Brussels sprouts side dish, which was boring and tasteless and needs bacon, for example, something to give it taste
