Le Comptoir is an intimate counter-top style showcase by Michelin Star Chef, Gary Menes. We feature an 8 course, vegetable inspired tasting menu, comprised of seasonal ingredients from our urban garden in Long Beach, as well as purvails from our local farmer friends.

Food was wonderful, but we had to wait a long time beyond our reservation in the hotel lobby w no food or drink. An amuse bouche and drink would have gone a long way. Also for the price point and small number of people I expect precise service. I have celiac (cant have gluten, which they knew) and they almost served me soup w bread crumbs. The couple next to us had ordered the wine pairing and it was into the second course and they had not gotten any wine and they had to ask for the wine they had already ordered. The vegetables were truly lovely and the flavors excellent. Still recommend for a special event but hope they continue to work to improve their timing and service.

What an amazing experience! There are only 10 seats at a counter and you get a first row view of the cooking and plating of each dish. So fresh and delicious. The chef and his assistants are there to answer any questions that you have about the food, his background and his vision of the future of the restaurant. It is like sitting in an incredible chef's home and having him cook an amazing dinner for you. It is a prix fixe menu that has several "add on" choices. The dishes without the add ons are vegetarian so if you are a vegetarian, you will love this restaurant. Even if you aren't a vegetarian, you will love this place too. So intimate and unique. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Le Comptoir is a truly special restaurant. I always make an effort to dine here when I am in Los Angeles. Small and intimate--you really feel that you are dining in your kitchen with family and friends. It is also great to see an unique culinary choreographic ballet. The menu is an unique tasting menu that is vegetable oriented but with meat options and a wine pairing element to each course. There is wine by the glass. Chef Gary also has created a special yeast starter so he bakes his own wonderful sourdough bread which can be purchased to go, if given advance notice. An outstanding dish is the organic farm egg with greens and herbed lemon topping and the wonderful sourdough bread to sop up the egg yolk. The vegetable and fruit plate is another winning dish. You always leave wonderfully and satisfyingly full. Chef Gary, his assistant Alex, and the other staffers are like friends and family! An absolutely unique and delicious culinary venture well worth the trip!

An absolutely exquisite meal. It felt as if I was invited into Chef Gary's home kitchen for a family dinner: he introduced himself and spoke of the upcoming meal in a very friendly, open manner. Not to mention, the seven wine pairings were all very fitting, but also some of the chef's personal favorites, which shows Chef Gary's passion and connection with his garden and food. Amazing atmosphere, elegant plating, wonderful transition of music, beautiful window space for outside bystanders to gaze in, devoted staff backing him up - a one of a kind experience.

I took 8 friends for my birthday. they were sceptical when we arrived not understanding how we could be treated to an outstanding experience in an old hotel in Koreatown. By the time we left they were all converts to chef Gary. One of the best experiences in fine dining that any of them had experienced.. The food was unique, delicious and satisfying .His crew were wonderful explaining the dishes as they were presented. They way the restaurant is laid out creates an intimacy where we are part of the kitchen

There were a few interesting discoveries in the meal, but not enough execution to justify the M Star or the price. The chef owner wasn't cooking that evening- might also be a case where this place is only magic with his touch-- but if that's the case, don't open without him.

This is a unique and incredible fine dining experience. With only 8 people per sitting, it is extremely intimate. You also get a chance to watch food prep and plating which is very fun! As a vegetarian, this is probably the best food I've ever eaten. Would recommend this place to everybody!!

Part of the pleasure of eating at Le Comptoir is observing the creation of each course, first by the chef, then the plating of the course, ingredient by ingredient, by the staff. Professional, with incredible attention to detail, all done with minimum fuss. Another part of the pleasure is the way chef Menes welcomes the eight customers, introduces the staff then makes it clear that he is going into food preparation mode and all is serious. After the courses, the affable chef is back and takes several minutes with each party, discussing what we have just eaten. The final pleasure is how he creates an outstanding series of courses using mostly fruits and vegetables (there are meat options for an extra charge for some courses). At the end of the meal, which lasts about two hours, you feel that you have participated in something very special.

I didn't know what to expect when I made reservations and was pleasantly surprised with the intimacy of the entire experience. My friend and I were seated at a counter with 8 other people and it felt like we were given a private show by chef Gary and his staff. I enjoyed how Gary introduced himself and his staff and spoke how the dishes were conceptualized and why it was the type of food he wanted to share. The 8 course menu was vegetable forward, which I wasn't aware of until the day before. I chose a couple of supplements, the truffle pasta and the beef, which were options provided for an additional cost. All the dishes were well thought out and executed perfectly, but 2 dishes really stood out to me: the corn veloute and the beef dish. I believe the beef was a shortrib that was prepared and smoked like a pastrami. Absolutely fantastic! I would highly recommend this place to others.

It started off a little bumpy as they had not received my email instructions about gluten, dairy and sugar restrictions. But Keven was exemplary in trying his best to make it work. I ended up having no issues whatsoever even though there were hints of gluten and dairy in their fantastic offerings. The beef was exceptional. I enjoyed the wines which made it work seamlessly, since they were extremely well matched to the food. Delicious and light--a true ensemble of unusual tastes and textures in the ambiance of entrepreneurs with idiosyncratic artisanal flair!

Le Comptoir is a VERY special experience. From the moment you sit down, it's obvious how much care and preparation has gone into the meal you are about to enjoy. The chef does a brief intro describing the dishes on the menu for the night, highlighting certain ingredients and why they are special, and then does his thing. The staff is busy but friendly the whole time whether they are plating the next dish, serving the next course or answering questions. We watched in awe as our 'fruit and veggie' plate was meticulously built by the apprentice using tweezers, one piece at a time. Literally every single course was an A+, we wouldn't have changed a thing. The base price is $120 for the tasting and $54 for wine pairing. There were four courses with a supplemental option, all of which we got, this does add about $100 to the bill, but it's sooooo worth it! Le Comptoir is definitely a special occasion kind of dinner, hope to be back soon! Oh, and make sure you special order a loaf of their sourdough bread when you make your rez. They bake it in the back while you dine, and hand you a hot loaf when you leave. It's the best sourdough you will ever have!

Chef Gary Menes and his fabulous team created a very special evening for my husband and I, and our two dear friends. The fresh garden to counter vegetables were fresh, beautifully and delicately cooked. The scallops, beef and truffle pasta were the perfect supplement to our menu. The 24-yr old starter donut and the cheese platter were the memorable ending to our amazing evening. Thank you to Gary and his great team!

Le Comptoir smashed my expectations with its vegetable-inspired cuisine. Truly a farm to table experience with a strong emphasis of sustainability and no hint of pretentiousness - 80% of the produce served comes from the chef’s own garden and tap water is served upon seating. I don’t know how they whipped up all the dishes for 12 people on 4 induction stoves but they worked magic in such a small space. Highly recommend this place!

Tasting menus can be intimidating. Chef Gary Menes takes care of that. His vibe is anti-Ramsey, like he'd be comfortable chilling with you and taking down some chips and guac after a surf sesh.

While the tasting menu experience can often be a beautiful ballet, Le Comptoir is like watching your friend make an elegant meal at her house on your birthday.

This place is a treat! Michelin starred Long Beach Chef Gary Menes is rocking a 10 seat 40s lunch counter in a beautiful 1920s Spanish Revival style hotel. Definitely upscale dining, be prepared to be thrilled with the versatility of fresh organic urban grown vegetables. My husband, Mr. Meat, conceded that the veggie-centric meal scared him, but ended up being one of the best meals he's ever had (And we've eaten at three Michelin starred restaurants). The evening was wonderful, his sous chefs and assistant were attentive, and it was amazing to watch professionals assemble the meal with surgical precision. Love! Love! Love!

A true experience! We loved every minute of our time at Le Comptoir. The space is tiny and everything from meal prep to dish washing happens right before your eyes. The chef was personable and informative, dishes were creative and delicious, wine was perfectly paired. An amazing way to spend an evening. We'll be back!
