Le Chat Noir Ratings and Reviews
We like this restaurant very much and have been before, often with out of town guests. However, I generally feel that the service could improve. This time, our waitress took drink orders for the table but was in such a rush that she skipped me. Also, although our reservation was made through Open Table and I received several reminders, the restaurant did not have our reservation. Luckily they were able to seat us anyway.
Always a fun place, food was good, service attentive, if a bit awkward. We were there early so the place was mostly full of older folk, not an issue unless you want something younger. My business partner picked up the tab so I didn't see the overall bill but food was tasty, particularly the duck. We both order the smoked salmon appetizer with asparagus which was delicious. The upstairs bar is more hip, good for first dates.
Dinner meal was very good. Wish tables hadn't been so close together in open area dining; wasn't clear to us when waiter displayed a dessert to us, if it was part of special dinner meal or acknowledging the person for special occasion (birthday). And last, we ordered a flambé crepe that was way over priced for a teeny tiny sliver of a crepe with 3 or 4 cherries.
It was a beautiful day, life-long friends, and a wonderful birthday celebration topped by wonderful crepes and a candle on the dessert.
Had asked for a quiet corner due to a serious hearing problem. They put us in a private room.
Absolutely lovely experience. Had been there multiple times before, but will not wait so long to return. I live in Virginia.
I did compliment the owner.
By the way, I have told numerous people how impressed I was with the reservation process. Perfecto!
A new neighborhood favorite for us; the food is terrific. We have eaten there twice in recent weeks and will return over and over again. Service is smooth and responsive. It all works, making a very pleasant dining experience. We like seating in the front patio - whether open or enclosed.
We enjoyed our fixed-price brunch, despite the fact that the restaurant had run out of our chosen entrees, at only 1:15 in the afternoon! The service was good. Although we sat on the covered patio conversation still was a challenge. Nevertheless, we would return, as the menu is quite extensive, well prepared, and good value.
Had been several times before, and had always been on the fence about restaurant and, especially, the servers. This time we had a waiter who tapped customers' shoulders to get their attention, instead of politely waiting and then asking to be excused to tell us whatever he needed. He did this to us more than once, and we saw him doing it to other patrons. Food took a very long time, in spite of restaurant not being full. A waiter bringing out our dishes had no idea what they were until someone else intervened (he was bringing them back to the kitchen). We asked for our wine to be cooled but then the waiter forgot to refresh our glasses, until we caught someone else's attention. Then the tapping waiter threw the dessert menus on our faces. And we were nice all along! Won't be back.
My guest and I opted for wine, appetizers, salads and desserts. The waiter was very helpful in guiding us to good selections. This restaurant has items on the menu rarely found elsewhere -- the frog legs were terrific and the Crepe Suzzette (spelling?) for dessert was a delicious and a fun blast from the past. We ate on the patio (a kind of enclosed patio, but open to the outside) which was very pleasant and much quieter than inside. A very nice restaurant which will certainly sees again.
We purchased a pre-paid voucher which was supposed to offer a special menu. When we arrived, the so called menu had been substituted (surprise: no escargot, oysters nor Bouillabaisse). We chose not to ruin our weekend evening with a complaint to management figuring that it would not do any good and just upset us. The substitution to lesser food choices was not received well, nor the notation on the final bill that stated it was a "$123 value". Yeah, sure it was.
We were seated next to a row of wide open floor to ceiling windows (with same thing on the opposite side). Temperatures were just starting to drop and a breeze coming up. 5 minutes after being seated they started closing the windows promising to open them again when the rain stopped. So we were dry to watch a gully washer thunderstorm and then as promised everything was opened back up to cooler temperatures and before dinner was over the sun came out.
On top of the fortuitous nature's drama, (enhanced by the staff's quick and good humored action as the storm approached, and opening up again just as the storm ended), the lamb and steak were superbly cooked and delicious, salads included fresh, local lettuce and tomatores. Upon recommendation we shared the chocolate mousse. This very dark chocolate version is rich, intense and a wonderful end to the meal.
