Le Caprice Bar Counter
Le Caprice’s menu features classic British, European and American favourites and its timeless black and white interior is complemented by a collection of iconic photographs by John Swannell. For your evening's entertainment, our pianist plays from 6.30pm until 11.30pm. For more relaxed dining, the full menu is also available at the bar.
Still as good as ever...
Everything was perfect
very good lunch, good atmosphere, great service, it is very good for business and pre theatre entertainment.
My go to place for dining by myself in London. The bar counter always has activity and a freiendly crowd. Clearly a nice mix of locals and visitors. My steak was top notch. Just a nice way to drink and dine when you are in London as a single.
Wonderful, as usual. Bertie, at the counter, such good company!
Excellent lunch as always
We celebrated Thanksgiving dinner and we were very pleased. The meal was delicious, everyone was so kind and cheerful, and the atmosphere was perfect. It was a wonderful experience on many levels.
Le Caprice never lets me down. The staff at the bar and the restaurant are top notch. They have been able to survive all these years because they actually are good, and so is the food.
I requested a spot at the counter bar since I was alone ( and heading to the theatre ). No sooner was I seated than the bar man abruptly asked me what I wanted to drink ( no “welcome, how are you tonight” ). He seemed a bit miffed when I asked to see the cocktail list, as though I should know instantly what I wanted. And, although a prix-fixe, pre-theatre menu is advertised online, only the regular a la carte menu was handed to me. So I had to ask for that, as well! As it turned out, I ordered an expensive a la carte main dish, since it appealed to me.
During my meal, no one ever topped up my sparkling water ( the bottle stood in plain sight and the barman/waiter watched me refill my glass. And, when I’d finished my cocktail, no one asked if I’d like a glass of wine ( although I sat there looking at the page of wines by the glass ). By then, although I did want wine, I was too fed up with the rudeness to order one.
It was only after I asked for my bill that a waiter asked if I’d like dessert or coffee! Obviously, I didn’t. But I just smiled politely and said I had to go. No one thanked me for coming or wished me a pleasant evening.
Yes, the place is packed ( being right by the Ritz Hotel is very beneficial ). And the ambiance is suave and clubby. But the waitstaff is basically disaffected ( although they do act unctuously polite to regulars ).
I’ve actually been coming to Le Caprice for many years, but usually sit with friends at a table. Hmm— what a difference!
Over the top. Overpriced. Stuffy. Considering it was empty it could have been so much more exciting. Disappointing.
We changed our booking to eat in the restaurant rather than at the bar and we were given a lovely table. From entering the restaurant to leaving the service was the best I have called me across for a long time. Whilst it was busy and they obviously had people waiting for tables you were not made to feel hurried. The food was excellent. My companion said it was the best halibut they’d ever tasted. Ambience is always great here. Soft piano music in the background made the night complete. Well down team Le Caprice. We will be back
Great night out
Same old Caprice. Always good, never great but a solid choice nonetheless.
We got engaged!!!!!!
Lunch was excellent on 16 March - good food, wine, service and the unchangeable ambience. I do not follow why you list this restaurant as "Le Caprice Bar Counter" - it is called LE CAPRICE.
Lovely food and very friendly service. Adapted cocktails to our wishes
Nice service all around however would have appreciated a keener eye to details and more helpful, friendly and informative staff
Great evening overall. Very attentive bar staff. Lots of fun sitting at the bar. Expensive but very good food from a classic menu (steak tartare, scallops, dover sole). Would definitely go again with one girlfriend, probably too awkward to chat if there was more than two at the bar but we both loved it. Suspect my husband would prefer a table.
Delicious food, friendly staff , busy , jolly atmosphere- we ate at the bar which was great - definitely recommend.
A timeless classic . Never fails to impress. Good as good as ever BUT please bring back the rabbit rigatoni.
Classic restaurant, a couple of blocks behind the Ritz. Old time elegance, but not stuffy. Fantastic place for dinning at the bar, which is in the main dinning room. Felt like a lot of locals, pre and post theater. Good drinks, excellent food. The live music gave it a great feel. Went twice in a few days, great both times.
Very nice restaurant the waiters looked a bit bored and not interested in us actually.
We enjoyed a superb dinner. Every dish was excellent.
This was our first visit to Le Caprice and we found the service, the food quality and the ambiance all very good. We were in fact offered a table rather than a seat at the bar, which was most welcome, and enjoyed an excellent two course meal with drinks. It was nice to see a good
selection of vegetarian options on the menu as well.
4th or 5th time visiting and eating at the counter. Great spot, always!
Popped in for lunch before seeing a movie, so propped myself at the bar and had some lovely sashimi to start, and a delicious miso salmon for the main course. Delicious!
Sat at the food bar which added a bit of theatre to things!
Service was excellent, attentive and anticipatory, without being intrusive. They were very friendly and it made a nice occasion much more special.
Delicious food. I had tuna and then suckling pig which was fantastic. The sauce on my friend's fish was a little gloopy and sweet, but a minor criticism.
It's always a delight to visit Le Caprice - we've been coming as a couple for over 25 years - and we've never tired of it.
Of late we prefer the buzz of the counter as there's the entertainment & charm of the bar staff to compliment the food & ambience.
The food is definitely better than it was a few years ago with a nice mix of old favourites and modern twists.
However, the prices are becoming strong - there are several Michelin starred restaurants within a 10 minute walk that are noticeably cheaper.
This won't prevent us coming back, but it just might not be as often as we'd like to.
Excellent atmosphere and food, especially the Thai baked seabass.
Sensational!!!! I have been going to Le Caprice since 1993 and this was my first dinner in 15 years and it was as epic as my first dining experience .... not to be missed
Very good place for lunch, good quality food, great service and a great location
Food is good to average; ambience can be fun. There is a tendency to rush you through your meal that does not feel hospitable.
Very good meal, seated at the bar. The service was excellent and the barman both skilled and enjoyable. All in all a great meal.
a very good experience. nice quiet location but lively, vibrant restaurant. very nice bar, varied menu, attentive service, strong food preparation and nice presentation made for a very good experience. we'll be back.
