Great food served in a fun environment. Good selection of vegetarian options. Perfect position in Lonsdale street.
When their for the vegan night. There were 7 dishes but not many were really good that I'd like to try again. The maki was nice, I enjoyed the daikon. Eggplant was too deep fried and lost its flavour. The edamame was good, but it was more a snack to go with drink than a dish itself. Cos lettuce should never been grilled, should use cabbage or bok choy instead.Spring roll was ok, need more sauce though. Bao and stir fried veggie was nice, but once again, not a hard dish to make. The bibimbap was a bit let down, mostly because it was cold, and the seasoning was poor. It should have more Korean chili sauce, and maybe a vegan egg and some fried onion.
Service was just average, our spot was very cold. We asked to be moved to another one which was not directly under the air-con and the staff firmly said no and we didn't understand why since the other table had the same number of seats and the people there didn't show up until at least 20 mins after we asked. The staff said they would turn down the fan a bit but it didn't help at all and our foods turned cold 2 mins after they were put on the table.
I will come back for food at Lazy Su, but may be not for another Vegan night as the food is below par compared to other restaurants that serves vegetarian/vegan food.
Absolutely loved the that’s so vegan menu. Brought 3 non vegans with me and they loved it too.
the food wasnt that good at all. was expecting more creative dishes, better taste and better value. perhaps some tofu or fake meats or something more interesting. was also no desert which I felt was needed.
Food was plentiful in the banquet. Flavours great. Awesome value for money. Would recommend to give it a go...
We’ve previously had great experiences at Lazy Su, but this time it was a bit disappointing - especially because it was a special occasion. I’d made a counter seating booking, but we were placed right at the front where the glare was too much and we were told there wasn’t another seat available. We’d previously loved the dishes we chose but this time the meals we chose (duck and pork belly pancakes) weren’t very nice; the duck was overcooked and tasteless and the fat on the pork belly wasn’t rendered down properly. On a good note the rosé (Minimum) was lovely. Overall unfortunately our dining experience wasn’t satisfying and we won’t be back any time soon.
Great food, amazing customer service (very rare in Canberra), felt like a really busy fun environment.
Amazing food! I’m always so impressed with the food and it tastes amazing !
The Food options were good and cater for Vegan diets too, so thanks for putting thought into that, but there were a few fundamental issues we had with the dining experience.
We were shown to our table, and presented with the menu's including the drinks menu, the wait staff bought over some table water so all good to this point. However the next wait staff to come up asked if we were ready to order, and here is the issue, any trained wait staff should know that the customers should be offered an opportunity to order drinks first, then the drinks would come out, when the drinks arrive this may be an opportunity to then order food or ask for a little more time, I normally like to enjoy a drink while reading the menu. However we ended up feeling pressure to order our drinks and food at the same time, and the worst part was that our food started to arrive before our drinks even arrived, everything seemed rushed.
At the end of our dinner I got up to pay the bill, the waitress who served me just asked, 'Would you like to pay the bill? and did not even ask me if we enjoyed our dinner, isn't this the first thing any team member in hospitality should ask. I understand these small businesses don't have large training budgets and have to deal with high staff turnover but something to think about. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I normally like to feel like a customer when handing over my cash for a dining experience but I left the restaurant with the feeling like they expected I should feel lucky just to be there.
Went to Lazy Su for dinner with a mate from out of town. Had the fried chicken ramen, which was excellent, as well as the cheesesteak spring rolls, which were a bit less enjoyable (the beef was a bit tough and I was expecting a bit more play on the flavours as with most dishes at Lazy Su). I'm sure that many will enjoy them, but they were not particularly to my own liking. Overall, a positive experience, with a good modern take on Asian classics, a pretty nice atmosphere, and excellent service.
We had dinner on Valentine's day, we were the first to be seated at 5, so it wasn't busy yet. My main meal (Chicken Ramen) came out too spicy, it included a chili oil that hadn't been there when I ordered it before (the previous weekend) so I didn't think to ask for it not to be spicy. I told the waiter, who said he'd speak to the manager. He came back saying the best the manager could do would be to offer me a small side bowl of plain broth and noodles to dilute my ramen, because I would be paying for a full meal, I wasn't happy with only getting a small bowl of edible broth so he got the Manager for me. The Manager (a women) insisted that they couldn't make me a new bowl, even after I explained it had been made differently when I ordered it last week. She kept insisting they wouldn't have it remade, before one of the lovely chefs at the bar overhead and took the bowl from me no questions asked to be remade, after which it was very nice. I wasn't impressed with the manager's conduct, not only did she send the waiter to deliver her verdict rather than tell me herself, she didn't seem concerned with my enjoyment of the meal, or sympathetic to the fact i'd be left with a meal I couldn't eat. She seemed to only care about the cost of an extra bowl of ramen. I would suggest she take a leaf out of the chef's book in the future and realise it's more important for her customers to be able to eat the meal and enjoy it. It was an unpleasant interaction that stood out from the other times we've eaten at Lazy Su, which is normally, a lovely experience.
Delicious vegan food! The staff was very friendly and helpful. I love this place !
Wow ! Every dish was as delicious as the last! Wagyu spring rolls 💕💕
Amazing food, the staff were able to choose cocktails based on our tastes! will definitely be coming back.
Great banquet menu, loads of food - and one party member was vegan and they were catered for with an amazing banquet meal too!
An amazing meal, so glad we found it!
Fabulous food - the tea smoked duck and fish tacos in particular were fabulous, and the edamame were next level with the miso dressing. Staff were very attentive and helpful
A nice spot. Some of the dishes outstanding but the pork belly pancakes very disappointing. Service great.
Food and service were first class. They lived up to everything I had heard about it.
Great food. Fabulous share plates. We could order a variety of food to please every taste.
Great cocktails too.
Service was quick and efficient but friendly.
Would highly recommend.
Food that we choose was amazing. We had the sashimi, kimchi fried rice, boa bun.
Wine selection is limited and our choice was not great. It was a hot night and sitting in the booth meant we had little air movement which made it super hot. Fans for each booth would help.
Great night, great food
Excellent food, great atmosphere and fantastic service - what more could you ask for...
Food was quite nice and good value. Service was excellent and the meals came quite quickly considering it was busy. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant, the music was quite loud but good and didn’t interfere with chatting. Will definitely come again.
I'd said i have a sensitivity to sesame oil, so asked about the cauliflower. was told it had lots of sesame so I didn't. however EVERYTHING seemed to be covered in it and i would've liked the waiting staff to pick up on this and let me know. esp edamame, the bibimbap. we were also seated up the back as the only table of 2 surrounded by huge tables- it was so noisy and i would have preferred to be near the street.
The food was good but unfortunately, the service was very average.
Definitely get the Mi So Hungry! It was more than worth it
Food was great, and the value for money was decent. Although I booked a table in advance, was expecting at least a decent seat, but ended up jammed between a wall and a table that had people brushing against my shoulder each time they got up.
So, overall I have had a decent experience so far.
Lazy Su is a favourite. My whole family loves eating there and any chance we get, we will recommend to friends. Food is always outstanding, service always friendly.
Despite booking counter seats well in advance of our reservation, we were seated at a tiny table right at the door.
We ordered the tasting menu (Mi-So Hungry), which is often a fun way to try new things. Three plates arrived within 10 minutes of ordering (which was a juggle to fit on the table, meaning we were compelled to eat quickly) and then the next plate took more than 30 minutes to arrive. 20 minutes later, the fifth dish, and then the sixth 10 minutes after that.
There was no interim service to check how we were enjoying the food or to ask if we needed drinks. Of the six dishes, only two were enjoyable. Two we didn't finish because they were not very nice.
Quite a disappointment overall, and not a restaurant I'd recommend or go to again.
Food was amazing! Same with the Drinks! We went about lunchtime and it was not super busy and food and drinks came out quickly. Love the place!
Had the seafood platter. Seafood was fresh and delicious. Kids enjoyed the gyoza and rice dishes. It wasn't a cheap meal, but tasty and lots of fun.
Food was delicious staff we’re excellent ☺️👍
Best vegan food I have had in Canberra! Great ambience with some stuff gong on inside :)
Really good experience. Chicken gyoza is amazing.
Unfortunately i ordered a drink half way through eating and didnt receive it, yet it appeared on the bill. Overall was a nice experience and the food was really good. Would return.
Food was tasty however some of the food we ordered was a little on the too spicy side. I’d like to go back and try other options on the menu.
Food was varied and excellent - very tasty and well-presented and good value. Service was good and attentive. My only complaint - and it may well prevent me from returning there - is that it was very noisy. There was loud and intrusive music playing and the tables are all closely packed. I really don't enjoy going to restaurants where I cannot hear what people are saying. It was so noisy that the staff mis-heard my beer request and brought me the wrong beer (quickly replaced) and when the staff asked me questions I also mis-heard what they were saying.
Food took 3 hours in total, and we ended up leaving before the last 2 courses of our banquet was finished. Waitress was very kind and accommodating but the food and drinks took long to come out. Would not return.
Such a great value NYE venue. Staff were helpful and food and drinks were delicious as always. Gluten free options were super delicious and didn't feel like an afterthought, or like I was getting less than my gluten eating husband.
It was New Year’s Eve and we opted for the vegan and meat banquet as they were all that was available.
Upon entering Lazy Su we were seated on a small and cramped table against the window looking onto the street.
We were advised the air conditioning was broken and the restaurant was very hot and uncomfortable, we had to ask for a glass of ice to go with the tap water we were served.
The food was just OK however between meals it took roughly 30-35 minutes for them to arrive. We had a 6:30 booking and didn’t leave until 9:00pm. We seemed to have been forgotten about at times and the way the tables are positioned people who were waiting to be seated were hovering around us as we were tying to enjoy our meals. Not a very good New Years even experience.
We had dinner at lazy Su on NYE and we’re so happy we did. The food was interesting, delicious and great value. The drinks menu was full of fun options. The fitout was cool and the music a perfect fit. We sat at the bar which gave us an insight into the inner workings of the sushi chefs, bar and wait staff. The crew working on the night were so professional, efficient and friendly and they seemed to genuinely enjoy being there. We’ll be back and we can’t recommend Lazy Su highly enough!
