Lawry's The Prime Rib - Chicago
SideDoor- Lawry's casual setting on our Rush Street side, serving Gastro-fare, craft beers, hand-forged cocktails all day long.
Our meal was delicious and our waitress Ms Parent was outstanding. What an asset to Lawry’s.
Well prepared Filets
Noise level could be better
Well timed service
We visit Chicago twice a year for work and always include Lawry's on my favorite restaurant list. Lawry's service and food is 5 star!
The food was very delicious. Our server was Ms. Farmer, who was wonderful. We enjoyed the surf and turf (prime rib and lobster tail) which was so scrumptious, I had to find the chef and compliment him on his superb cooking skills. Our master carver also did a fantastic job. Very pleased with our meal so much that I joined the VIP club. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Delicious prime rib cooked to perfection. Appetizer scallops were out of this world. Drysdeen our waitress was very knowledgeable of menu, most pleasant and accommodating.
Just a quick review:
1.) I followed the hype.
2.) Got a phenomenal waitress
3.) Great service
4.) Wonderful Food
Told you it was quick!
Top notch customer service. As always, the meals at Lawry's are outstanding. Will always visit when I'm in town
We dined at Lawry's this past Sunday evening. The last time we were there was shortly after they opened in the mid '70s. We are from out of state and were really hoping the food would again be exceptional. It was as good as we remembered. The service was a tremendous disappointment. Our server, Miss Rogers, was a very pleasant lady but once our entree was served she never came back to our table and we could not get her attention. It really appeared as she was more interested in serving her larger tables. We really wanted to have coffee and dessert but by the time we finally did get her attention we were very frustrated and just wanted to get our check and leave.
Not good. Hardly a difference between the 6 oz and 10 oz cuts, but the gap in pricing is big. Mistake number one. The knife barely cuts your meat. A typical steak knife is much more appropriate. That’s number two. The waitress checked in on us once even though we wanted another drink. Annoyance number three. The lobster tail is hilariously small. Four. I get a better prime rib for a third of the price in Door County, Wisconsin (see Nightengales). Five. The outfits are horrible. Six. Generally, not a great dinner spot for a city filled with phenomenal dinner choices. Likely won’t be back anytime soon. Again, not good.
Classic dining old school ambiance
Menu was nicely presented.
Value with salad potstoes entree and yorkshire pudding.
Great place for special occasion.
I wanted White Zinfandel, you didn’t have that wine. The salad dressing was a bit much. Should have had a choice. The amount of food wasn’t worth the price.
Thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary dinner. Ms. Farmer is a pro!
My family had a wonderful experience. Mr. Rivera was an exceptional server! Food was outstanding and the Raspberry dessert was phenomenal. We will definitely visit Lawry's again when we are in town.
Our reservation was mishandled, and the general manager was rude, argumentative, defensive and unaccommodating. The table service was average at best. I would question how appropriate the wait staff uniforms are in 2019.
The restaurant is in an old mansion and it makes for a unique dinner experience. Has a very traditional feeling that makes you feel like you have gone back in time. Prime rib was excellent and the master carver cut it right at the table. The cuts were generous and quite filling. Had creamed corn and creamed spinach. Both were very good although the corn was sweet, but when we took some corn and spinach together they were really good.
The Host was a dud that night but our waitress Ms. Dyrssen was absolutely amazing. 30 years of service and she made our night priceless. I’ve dined all over the globe and she was a breath of fresh air as we watched her give A+ service to her entire overbooked section. She’s a must stop for a great throwback meal if you’re in Chicago.
Great prime rib and very good service
First time. Very good meal at a reasonable price. I will be back.
Great from start to finish!
Love Lawry's but service was far less than we have experienced in the past. While some of this may seem trivial it was our experience. Our server, while smiling and talkative messed up our drink order after we had to repeat it twice. She seemed irritated that she brought something other than what we asked for and we brought it to her attention. The meal was excellent as always. When the meal was finished, she brought the bill without asking how it should be totaled (split or all together). She just brought it totaled together and seemed bothered by the question to split it... .not to cause an issue we split it ourselves. In some fairness it was a late dinner setting and by the time we were done with dinner they were in full close up mode. Understand everyone can have a bad day/night, it just took some of the classiness away from Lawry's
Mr. Rice was our server and he was delightful! The food was incredible. I have celiac and they were very attentive to that and the food was all still very flavorful. We love the restaurant has maintained it’s original character.
Very stuffy and old. Simple menu with the feature of Prime Rib and spinning salad. There were 4 of us with a bill of $365.00 + tip cane to over $400.00. Two diners wanted the share the extra large Prime Rib but were informed that sharing costs $17.00 which is absurd for an extra plate we didn’t want extra sides etc. just a plate So we just ordered 3 extra large Prime Rib dinners and used a salad plate for the 4th diner. The hook is they carve your meat table side from an ancient cart. Unfortunately the meat was cold as the lid of the cart is opened frequently. The chef carving the meat was not on his game and the slices were raggedy and uneven a very poor presentation ...overall a disappointment and will not return for more
Great food great service. The best prime rib everñ
Couldn’t have been better! Prime rib was delicious, and the carver, who was very pleasant, came by later to be sure we were happy. Creamed corn and spinach, excellent!! Probably best part of meal was the outstanding service we received from Ms Parent, she was so pleasant, engaging and efficient! Will be back soon!!
Server was great. The food was not as tasty as usual. The host was so rude we almost left until a manger was called. He smoothed things over, something which should not have been necessary.
This is always a fun experience for dinner. The spinning salad is awesome! Mrs. Farmer was excellent, she is a gem!
A bit disappointed in the food...especially for the price!
We have been here numerous times and the steak was not tender as it has been in the past.
Our group of three had an excellent time with wonderful food and great service. It was topped off with a complimentary truffle in honor of one of our group having a birthday. Most enjoyable.
This was our first visit to Lawry’s The Prime Rib, it was an amazing experience. The decor was beautiful, the atmosphere and ambiance was perfect. The staff that we encountered were impeccable. I brought my significant other there for his birthday and we weren’t disappointed. Thank you Mrs. Johnson for adding to make Glenn‘s birthday experience at Lawry’s a special one. Lawry’s, you should be proud to have her on your staff. I can’t leave out the top carver, Big Daddy, we thank you. I would and will recommend this restaurant.
The menu is limited but everything is perfect.
It’s a great place that makes the whole experience special.
Excellent dinner at a fabulous restaurant. Great place to have a dinner with friends. Quiet ambiance. Outstanding service. Best prime rib I’ve had in years.
great old world feel. true service professionals in every sense
We had an exceptional evening for dinner. The service Ms. Johnson provide was outstanding. Our dinner was out of bonds. We will definitely be back!
Came from Houston and heard Lawry’s was famous for the prime rib.
Ordered med rare double chop PRIME rib but they sent out as a med well/done. I asked to get another one and they were able to switch it out w/ the correct temp.
Granted that I tasted both of temped prime rib, I was unimpressed. I don’t think they marinaded it long enough and it was bland; which made me suspected that the ribeye isn’t even prime cut because the beef shouldn’t be bland or tasted watered down without the salt.
Sides were good (mash, house salad, cream spinach and mac & cheese)
Overall I feel like the prime rib is overhyped. It was unfortunate that I dropped over a bill for the entire meal.
I prepped a ribeye roast (choice cut) the next day w/ S&P and let it ride 8hr in the fridge and sure enough it tasted way better than the prime rib.
Maybe it was an off night. But the restaurant was beautiful, great dining room and the stairway to the restroom was nice.
Live in Argentina and have old fond memories of Lawry’s back in time while living in the US. All was up to expectations. Will be back
Our server, Venita Hodges, was amazing. She was friendly, helpful, and very attentive. The food tasted delicious and was nicely proportioned.
We have celebrated birthdays at Lawry’s for 35 years. This was my mother’s 90th, and it was lovely. Food was more delicious than usual, and our waiter, Jeff Rice, was outstanding!
First time to take my old friend, love love the creamed corn, prime rib was perfect, desserts yummy, staff pleasant and helpful, sharing the history, highly recommended
Love this place. Very specific menu, served in a very traditional way.
