The Good Food Guide (2015) says: "Martin Peacock [...] still doing what he does best: familiar combinations of quality ingredients, conscientiously sourced and cooked with care. A test meal found perfect fresh-from-the-oven bread; a precise, balanced starter of venison carpaccio [...] then the main course of Romney Marsh Lamb [...] that was a triumph of flavour and accuracy of cooking. [...) and the English cheese selection is superb."

A truly outstanding meal. The quality of the cooking was top rate. Can’t wait to go back when I’m next in Rye.
Excellent food and service in tough circumstances. A real gem in Rye
The atmosphere was really nice and relaxing.
The food was delicious, definitely the best in the area.
The bread and focaccia was freshly made by the chef and still warm.
The lobster risoni was very delicate and
the duck as a main was amazing, the best I have had. The contrasting tastes fitted perfectly together.
There is a great attention to detail, from the service to the food presentation, even the ice cream is home made!
Will definitely be returning very soon, it was a great experience.
It was my wife’s birthday, but we wanted a quiet evening out with a good meal, which happened to be just under of the wire, as the move to Tier 3 in Rother was just announced that day. Warm welcome and attentive service. The Chilean Carignan réservé was opened and decanted, without fuss. It was ideal! Interesting amuse bouche, tasty fresh breads, delicious Venison tartare and scallops, followed by a hearty pink duck breast and confit leg with pear, dauphinois potatoes and withered kale. As the crème brûlée was finished, the cheesecake accompanied by a complimentary glass of white port to pair and a plate of cheeses to finish were perfect. All together, a very satisfying and enjoyable evening at what must be one the best restaurants in Rye. We’ll be back!
We went for Sunday lunch and the food was delicious.
Food was very good. Presented well. Service was excellent although with COVID restrictions the restaurant did not have its usual buzz, but that was to be expected. Great they are still open. A great place to eat in the south east put it on your visit list.
We booked this restaurant on recommendation from Hayden’s B n B. We were not disappointed. The staff were excellent and very attentive and the food was exceptional. If you visit Rye, treat yourself and try it out.
This was our second visit and was top our list to book into after our last trip.
The restaurant has a small and cosy feel and the staff were not intrusive and were very accommodating to dietry needs.
The food was fabulous, beautifully cooked and all very modern in presentation.
We will be going back.
Food was amazing! Everything was absolutely delicious. We were made to feel very welcome , I'm gluten intolerant, and they catered very well for this. I cannot wait to come back.
One of my favourite restaurants in the UK and always a reason to go to Rye and Thursday night did not disappoint
Staff managed really well in these difficult times being very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent, beautifully presented and superb flavours. Certainly would recommend.
As always, it was a delight to dine at the Landgate Bistro. The food is delicious and the atmosphere relaxed. The staff are very careful to keep diners as safe as possible during these COVID times.
Ideal for a quiet, informal meal.
My mother lives in Rye, so we try to go here when we visit, which has not been so often lately. Yesterday was her 100th birthday so we cele
First visit to Landgate Bistro and certainly hope it wont be our last! The menu was varied and all the food was cooked perfectly. We particularly enjoyed the marsh lamb combination and the duck breast was melt in the mouth and so tasty. Great wine list too and overall great value for money. We eat out a lot including in London and both agreed this was our best meal of 2020 so far.
A delicious special dinner for my husband and myself.
The food tasted wonderful, the staff attentive and the tables had enough space and felt covid comfortable. Thank you.
A very good lunch on a very wet day. We greatly enjoyed it.
It was a really good experience. We will come back. Thank you
Delicious food, great service, a lovely evening. Would certainly go again.
Excellent food, very helpful staff and great wine.
Just perfect in every way. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drink they are serving. The food itself is jest wonderful. My partner had the Gressingham duck which he said just melted in the mouth. IU had the lemon sole which was superb and full of flavour. We have eaten here several times over the last few years and what we appreciate most is attention to detail and the fact that the venue uses locally sourced seasonal produce and in some cases foraged locally too. Not recommended for small children this is fine dining at its best
Beautiful quiet restaurant. Good food and accommodating staff.
I thought each course was excellent. If the Landgate Bistro doesn’t have at least one Michelin star it ought to! We were there to celebrate my father’s 94th birthday, and it proved to be an excellent choice. We are looking forward to returning!
Probably now the best restaurant in Rye. As locals it was good to see they've upped their game.
Lovely restaurant, with a nice ambience. The food was very well presented , quite small portions but very nice . The staff were very attentive and the service was excellent. If you like fine dining this is the place to go .
The meal was exceptional- and lovely friendly service too. The scallops and duck were both cooked to perfection. I really savoured every bite. My partner loved his meal too. Even the bread was exceptional. We finished it off with delicious deserts and the bill at the end was incredibly reasonable. Similar meals in the past have cost me double! Thank you so much Landgate Bistro for an unforgettable evening.
Excellent meal on a wet dreary day. Delicious duck and good wine so can’t wait to return.
This was one of the most enjoyable meals I’ve ever eaten. Excellent food, good atmosphere (even given “you know what”) and great staff.
The food at Landgate Bistro was top quality. Made with local ingredients, they created classic dishes with a twist. The staff were friendly and helpful. A lovely place for a birthday meal.
The food was OK, but I found the sauce on my sole overpowering and the dish definitely lacked vegetables. Scallops to start with were fine, but not amazing. The bread with olive oil and balsamic came with extremely acidic balsamic; and they had run out of most puddings, so we didn't try those.
Excellent in all respects - the food, wine, service were all spot on. This was one of the finest meals I have had for a long time.
Menu unusual, individual and enticing. All beautifully cooked and presented. Excellent service, and all Covid guidelines followed faithfully. A well above-average experience.
The food was beautifully presented- was like a picture on a plate and tasted fabulous. I had the scallops and the four different types of lamb - delicious!
The creme brûlée was delicious too.
Very enjoyable experience, excellent food, fantastic service and very reasonably priced 👍
The best meal we’ve had in a long time. Ambience was good despite Covid restrictions.
We very much enjoyed the food at The Landgate Bistro especially the starter of Scallops with Cauliflower Panna Cotta, Chorizo Crumble, and Honey Roasted Pork Belly, which was virtually a main course and full of flavour. The lemon sole was beautifully soft though personally, I found the sauce a little heavy with that particular fish and would have preferred something a little lighter. I can't comment on the wine list as I'm not a drinker but the homemade elderflower was delicious.
I was a little disappointed not to be seated in the main part of the restaurant especially as I had booked a reasonable time in advance for a special treat during our mini break and it was a week night. The side room where we were seated lacked the ambience of the main restaurant. I could not fault the service - the waiting staff were very pleasant.
4 out of 5 stars
Came in for dinner with my brother. Had very high hopes and were not disappointed! Started with the soup for me, scallops for my brother and a portion of lobster to share, some of the most amazing dishes we’ve ever eaten! We both had the Romney marsh lamb dish for main which consisted of an impressive 4 different cuts, all exquisite! Finished with a beautifully presented gateau opera for me and homemade lemon sorbet for my brother! An excellent experience from beginning to end, delicious food and excellent service to pair! Would highly recommend the Landgate bistro and we will certainly return!
Everything was going fine for our 45th anniversary lunch, then I found a 6inch black hair in my main meal...
Apologies given by waitress who was charming, 50% discount on our meal after removing said meal from the bill. No manager in sight to offer apology, rumour they were last seen running to the station....
“Charming waitress” is the restaurant manager. In this modern age even young women can be managers.
Had high expectations. It’s been an average experience and of course we currently want to consider how staff is currently under pressure for new covid measures.
Starters were good. Unfortunately one of our plates’s edge had been wiped with a dirty cloth, leaving some dirt. That’s been sorted straight away and we loved the tasteful lobster risoni and the scallops with pork belly (recommended!)
The sole was very salty and too rich but the muscadet bottle was fabulous. As 10pm was approaching we weren’t offered a dessert (although the other tables did) but only tea or coffee.
I rarely leave reviews but I hope this will give a little incentive to improve some things as this cute place deserves to be tried again.
Had a wonderful evening , food fantastic , will be coming back very soon !!
It's difficult for me to eat out due to dietary requirements, but here they were very accommodating. Not only was the food delicious (I had sole), but also the drinks were excellent. We will go again for sure.
