Lamaro’s Hotel Ratings and Reviews
The space is cosy but very noisy. We were a table of 4 seated at the worst table in the room with a view of the toilet and kitchen entry. Food was good however they forgot my husband's meal. When they did bring it there was no apology or acknowledgement of the mistake. The service was quite inattentive. I do not need to hurry back there when there are so many places with equal quality food and much better service.
Once again the ambiance was warm and inviting, great food served by extremely happy and helpfull wait staff along with one of the best Gin Martinis I've had the pleasure of engoying for a long time. Entrees were substantial and extremely flavoursome, mains were very generous and cooked to perfection. The Blue Eye with Asian style broth absolutely smacking of flavour, a real treat.
Asked wait staff to bring us what they recommend rather than us choose and all we got we 3 small entrees and 3 small mains for 5 men. Not enough food. Then left us alone for an hour we had to ask if we were going to be offered desert or if there was any more food.
Not good enough.
Amazing little restaurant, off the beaten track in South Melbourne. The food was outstanding, with a good selection of share dishes. The staff were attentive and friendly and very knowledgeable about the wine and food. They were great at suggesting dishes to us. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
This place is incredible, I will definitely recommend to anyone and everyone. Beautiful staff and service, so genuine and friendly. Very knowledgeable. It's a really nice place to go, not too noisy and you can book. very relaxing environment, and great option of either sitting in the more relaxed pub side or more formal dining setting. The street is so incredibly quiet, big beautiful trees. Very nice to go early and sit outside for a drink before you eat!
I was expecting a great meal but we were presented with pork crackling which was soft and a small fish which was overpriced. No problem with the drinks as all were good but would have to have better recommendations to go again. On the other hand I liked the old Lamaro's .....
Lamaro's has been one of local favourites. With the new menu they've missed the mark. Tapas that are not really tapas and too large. Lack of non meat dishes. Only couple of seafood dishes but in our case (after ordering) told they had ran out of scallops. Some of food dishes good but overall disappointing. For a menu billed to have shared plates tables too small. As a local will be back when they work on menu choices/variety.
Our group was disappointed with Lamaro's. Their website goes on about the wonderful pork on offer. Sat 26/9 no pork available they had run out! The lamb dish was very fatty. The Pinot Gris... no more available after one bottle consumed. Service staff did not explain any of the meats on the charcuterie platter, had to ask for water, bread etc etc. For a restaurant with most main courses in the $40's, the service was very poor. Very underwhelmed.
So very disappointing! The service was terrible having to wait very long periods for our food and wine to the point where we had to ask for things up to 3 times. When the food did come out it was very average, over cooked and lacking any real flavor. The suckling pig needed a steak knife to get through it and the house salad consisted of a pile of bitter lettuce leaves. the prices they are commanding are up there with some of melbournes best restaurants and this is not even close.
We ordered the grilled octopus and the share platter for entree. The price for the grilled octopus is way too dear for 3 very small pieces of 1 small leg. The accompaniments were good but the squid ink sauce is too little and the main star of the dish is way too disappointing and very over cook... It was braised till too soft that it lost the beautiful texture. We had the steak which the cow was fed with chestnut. There is a very distinct smell of the beef that I can't eat it at all.
