The six of us thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Lagoon. We opted to pick menu items vs going with the feed me menu because we wanted to try quite a few of the smaller dishes as well as the the seafood options and I'm so glad we did. Highlights for us included sweet water noodle and beef tartare and also the curried spanner crab fried rice and of course, the iconic charcoal roasted char siu. Can't fault the menu, also loved the wine options.
Loved everything Lagoon Dining had to offer! Fantastic attentive service and absolutely delicious food that was beautifully presented. We chose the “Feed Me” option and wasn’t disappointed! Incredible! Highly recommend!
very good :) had a dreat time, would highly recommend
This was my third visit to Lagoon. The welcome is always warm. The restaurant feels intimate without feeling crowded. It is easy to have a conversation but there is still a general buzz. I love the open kitchen where you can see the chefs at work. The food is delicious and very flavoursome. The four of us shared the plates and all enjoyed everything. My favourite is the Char Su and the Morning Glory. We followed the recommendation on wine from the friendly waiter and discovered two new wines to put on our list when visiting the wine store next time. It is great to see quality food returning to Carlton.
Delicious food, good setting for group - attentive and not too noisy or crowded. I wasn't aware of set menu requirement for larger group. Would have been good to know this on booking and also price for this which is not on website.
Thank you for your feedback. Groups of 8 and above are required to dine from our Feed Me menu. This term is detailed on the Bookings page of our website. The price of the Feed Me menu is listed on our menu page. Your reservation was booked online via Opentable. Within the online terms and conditions it details that groups of 8 or greater are required to dine from our Feed Me menu priced at $75 per person.
I would come here again anytime. Food can all be shared and allows to explore several delicious options from the menu...great for exploring a couple of snacks at the bar or for a full blown dinner. One of the few places to which I could also imagine going on my own and sit and eat at the bar. I really liked their cocktail, too. Service was amazing!
Exquisite and considered menu, refined wine list, alongside a personal and engaging service. Will definitely return.
Upstairs room loud. Food only average and cold
Amazing food. Hard to have a favourite as it was all so yummy. Great friendly service.
fabulous fabulous fabulous such a great change from all those dreary old Italian joints in lygon st.
I really wanted to like this restaurant. A new fusion Asian is a welcome addition to the eating scene. There were a few things however that put me off. Although I booked an early sitting for the main section of the restaurant (ie not outside and not at the bar), when we arrived, we were ushered to the bar section, at the very back of the dining room, overlooking the open kitchen. This was despite the fact that the main seating area was virtually empty apart from one couple. And remained less than half full until we left. As a middle aged woman and her teenage son (both huge foodies and regular diners all over town) we had the distinct impression we were being put out of site. When I pointed out that I had actually booked for the main section I was almost sneered at by the waiter and offered a table in the main part of the restaurant. Big mistake! In terms of the food, I really liked the approach and there are some interesting dishes on the menu but the execution was not quite right. The kingfish sashimi was smothered in an overly sweet uzu dressing. The sweetness factor was just so wrong. The chicken chop (essential chicken tonkatsu) was beautifully presented but the sansho pepper/salt covering the crumb was so overpowering, it really marred the dish (after the second bite, I really didn't feel like any more). Next came the morning glory -- a seemingly simple dish but cooked just that bit too long and it becomes slimy. Yep this was cooked too long, although the flavour was perfect. And finally the crab fried rice. Beautifully light fried rice (airy and nearly as good as the legendary fried rice at Mr Wongs in Sydney) but we only came across two small flakes of crab -- so that was a bit disappointing and not really worth the $26. So the chefs definitely need to refine their flavours and pay attention to execution and the arrogant young male waiter who attempted to seat us out of sight needs to drop the attitude (the other waitress was perfectly lovely and helpful).
Had a brilliant date night out. Flavour of the food was sensational. The great wine didn’t stop flowing. Exceptional service. Highly recommend.
One of our all time favourite go-to places for a meal. Food and service is always spot on. Try the beef tartare and rolled rice noodles, and book a seat at the bar if you can so you can catch all the action at the kitchen pass.
Lagoon offers interesting food prepared to perfection. daily specials are always worth considering, reflecting what's fresh, available, or takes the chef's fancy that day. for example, today's oysters were wonderful, and the steamed whole snapper was absolutely perfect. menu is constructed to make it easy to try a range of small dishes, giving a fabulous range of tastes. the barman also did a great job. service was attentive without being too present. wonderful dining experience.
Absolutely LOVE Lagoon Dining, it's one our our favourite restaurants in Melbourne right now!
Incredible food and atmosphere. Loved every minute. Amazing date spot
Fantastic food: high quality ingredients made into simple but flavourful dishes. Wonderful service, great atmosphere, perfect balance between complex and passionate cooking and a comfortable, welcoming environment.
Food was superb!! Staff just the right amount of friendly and accommodating. Loved the cocktails and did I mention the food??!
Very good food but a bit spicy for my husband’s delicate taste buds. Next time we will ask to hold the spice a bit. Our younger co diners loved the spice.
Great food and drinks - sat at the counter and was entertained by the kitchen, staff was fabulous.
But noisey. Food service and deco great. Strange security cage on shop front window. Not so welcoming.
For a first return to a restaurant experience in over a year it didn’t disappoint! Food was sensational and the service excellent!
Best restaurant in Carlton atm. Well done Lagoon. Very happy to eat there when ever I can. Innovative and delicious food; chefs who will go the extra mile for your annoying friend who won't eat nightshades; good reasonably priced wines. Great place.
Delicious food to share with family and friends. Gluten-free friendly.
Food: wonderful. Service: helpful, enthusiastic, friendly. A totally enjoyable experience.
Amazing food, great service. We had the feed me menu and were stuffed by the end.
This was our third time back at Lagoon Dining and it was delicious! The staff were amazing, great atmosphere and the food was incredible. Couldn't recommend more!
A great restaurant that breaks up all the Italian restaurants on Lygon Street. must try!! The pork was amazing!
Great food. Fresh, flavoursome, original. Good for sharing.
Delicious food and great service. Really enjoyed our dining experience here.
The food was absolutely delicious. A delightful blend of Asian fusion with subtleties of taste and colour and texture. A bit expensive but really worth it. Great table looking out onto Lygon Street
This was our second time at Lagoon Dining and it won't be our last. This time we had the Feed Me menu and the wow flavours and textures just kept coming. My taste buds were still firing hours after we finished eating. The most amazing array of highly original dishes, perfectly accompanied with various house-made sauces and condiments. Lagoon is officially my favourite restaurant - it always surprises and delights! The service was exceptional, the hospitality warm, genuine and informed. There's a great drinks menu to compliment each dish - and the knowledge to help you make the perfect choice. Can't speak highly enough of the whole dining experience - you could not go wrong.
Brilliant szechuan-inspired dishes; loved every single thing. Jackfruit dessert was amazing, and I don't usually do sweet things but I could have eaten six of those. Service personable and professional, nice ambiance in restaurant. Wine list also excellent. We will be coming again!
Loved the food, service and interiors. Not my first time and won't be the last!
Expensive, small serves. Snapper good flavour but probably not legal size.
My partner and I celebrated a birthday at Lagoon Dining and had a lovely night! The food was delicious, the service wonderful and the cocktails were a real hit. If there are two of you, I recommend sitting at the bar and watching the chefs in the kitchen - seeing the care and detail that goes into each dish is incredible. All in all, the best meal I’ve had in Melbourne in years - maybe ever?
Such great modern Asian in the heart of Lygon Street
It’s was absolutely incredible
Beautiful food, amazing tastes, great vegetarian selection.
Very nice space - we were upstairs which was a little marred by a table of noisy guests next door. Great while they were eating. Some acoustic softening might help. I would ask for downstairs next time and there will definitely be a next time.
Unreal vibe, wine, service and food, get the snapper!
