The decor is nice, loved the building painted with the PR flag representing. I Found the meal to be expensive for the quality and quantity they provide. The appetizer although tasty I didn't feel it's worth $35.00. The waiter asked me how was my meal, I told him it wasn't tasty but he took it in stride and walked away. He didn't offer any other options or even attempted to make things right. I ate the mofongo and left 3/4 of the lechon as it was dry and overcooked. My wife's trifongo was tasty however.
My wife had a "juice of maracuyá", but it's simply pulp and water. It's not real juice.
The portions were small and overpriced. We also felt it lacked presentation. Our meal was $135.00, which included tax and tip THAT they automatically add into the bill and we were just a party of two.
They offer valet parking, but nowhere did I see a sign stating prices or that they even charge for valet parking. So we give the guy a tip and he says it's a $7.00 charge, I was shocked.
It was an experience however one that I won't repeat.
Excellent puertorrican cuisine.
Recommend with the caveat Service is sub-par and leaves a lot to be desired. That said, the food is Superb!
The Restaurant is not authentically Puerto Rican, portions are way light compared to Puerto Rican Restaurants on the Island.
I've been to La Placita before and the experience was completely different. I ordered lechon asado with trifongo, neither one came hot to the table, they both lacked flavor :/... My husband's carne guisada with rice and beans came as expected -this is why I am giving the 3 stars, balancing out my disappointment ( and his when he tried my food) with his satisfaction about his meal.
This was my third time in La Placita but was my last one. The quality and the flavor of the food has declined . This restaurant is to pricey for the quality of the food that is served.
The service was ok...nothing special. The mofongo was very small portion and very mediocre. The pork was very dry! They use the shoulder and should use the butt. It’s all very expensive for what it is.
Had a great time. The staff was amazing. The alcapurrias and chicharrones de pollo were delicious. Great place to meet with friends and catch up.
Excellent service, excellent food. I love it...
I’ve been an open table user for over 3 years , this is my first time giving bad review to a restaurant. It was that bad.
Great restaurant, service, atmosphere and amazing Puerto Rican food. I highly recommend. My waiter Raul was great.
The arroz con gandules was a disaster. There was absolutely no flavor at all. Someone in the kitchen failed miserably. The portions were ridiculously small. The turkey we were able to have tasted pretty good but it was it was not enough to make a sandwich with.
All was good except two people in our party got upset stomachs, which we believe was from the dolce de leche because that was the only thing that the others in our group did not have some of.
For the most part, the dishes we tasted were very good, but the sweet plaintains were hard and not ripe enough, a sin for a latin restaurant in Miami. The place was almost empty on a Friday night even though a DJ was playing outside in the bar area. Service was very good and the decor matches the casual nature of the place. In my opinion, the reason for the place being empty are the prices, which are on the high end for this type of cuisine in Miami. Most latin people and knowledgeable patrons are not willing to pay $22 for fried pork chunks regardless of what glaze you put on them, especially when there are so many good choices for similar fare at much lower prices. That's gonna be the achilles tendon for this restaurant unless they revisit their pricing and market their new and improved version.
The food was amazing everything from the alcapurrias appetizer to the tembleque for dessert was phenomenal! The server was really awesome giving us great recommendations and being super attentive as well.
Decoration was beautiful! Felt at home. Service and food was outstanding. Portions was small! When food is that good you will love a little bit more! Overall I will recommend it and and will definitely go back!
Love the food, love the drinks, love the service!
I order the mofongo crab stew for $18 and I did not realize it was so small food I am not satisfied with that food with ridiculously price. Also my friend order mofongo shrimps.. it was small with only three shrimps. that’s crazy!
Amazing! We all love the food, drinks and desserts! Music was nice and we were able to talk all night. We went 3 families with the kids, and we all had an awesome dinner! Can’t wait to go back, food was delicious!
The staff is very well trained. They were very kind and helpful. The food was excellent! Chef Mendin is awesome. If you want to try Puerto Rican food with his touch... this is the place.
The food was fine. Not amazing and not horrible. I think the best part of our meal were the small appetizers - queso frito and alcapurrias. But the mofongo was a bit too dry. The portions were tiny and expensive. The pasteles weren’t very tasty. The drinks were a bit watered down. But a fun ambience and I would go back for the appetizers again - maybe during a happy hour.
The service was amazing! Titi took great care of us. She was so funny and so attentive. Made great recommendations. The bacalaito was to die for, the mofongo was great, the pork was delicious. I mean everything on the menu is worth trying. I made a special request for the dessert and they went above and beyond. Definitely will be back soon.
I was so excited to eat at La Placita being Puerto Rican and hearing about all the controversy that the owner went thru with the painting of the Flag I wanted to support. We started with the empanadas de short rib (2) which were excellent and the chicharrones de pollo which were OK (5 small pieces). Then we ordered the Conch Salad and tostones (3) and the Garlic shrimp (about 6 small) with arroz mamposteado (in a tiny caldero). The Conch was unedible and rubbery, the shrimp had no flavor and came in like a tomatoey bland soup and the rice was spot on flavor wise but wet. After that I could have continued eating but since I was so disappointed I did not. I have to mention that the drink special was good and came in a cute vessel but they had run out of Pinot Grigio (it was only 6:00 pm) so I had 1 glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The check totaled $114.66! and we left hungry. I do not foresee this restaurant lasting with the quality and quantity of the food for the absurd price. Especially with such great Cuban food that you can get anywhere in Miami. The location also does not condone the prices.
Meeting with Friends
Wow! After reading so many positive reviews we decided to give La Placita a try. We lived in PR and frequent the island often. La Placita owners must be confused of which island they are trying to emulate. The food was tasteless, the avocado salad was brown, the tostones and chicharons where nothing but grease and the piña colada tasted like an orange soda! A truly disappointing visit. Scratching La Placita off my list permanently. Much better PR restaurants in kendall.
My wife and I had a very nice date night experience at La Placita. The place had a great vibe with some good Latin pop/reggaetón music playing in the background. The service was very good, our server Raul was super attentive and helped us choose a great option for the both of us. The food we ordered had great flavor and the drinks were spot on. Overall a very, very good experience on our first visit. Will go back in the near future.
Excellent service and food. Locación and all puertorrican stuff
First the bar staff was awesome.Jose makes a mean drink. Iur waiter Raul was knowledgeable and attentive. Max the manager was accommodating and very pleasant. All in all loved spending time there. The food was delicious and I over did it.😜
Puerto Rican influenced food. Definitely not authentic. It wasn't bad it just wasn't authentic.
The place is lovely. We sat on the couches and swing. Service was on point from the waitress (Titi) to the bus boys. We ordered Mofongo de Ropa Vijeja, Pastelon and chicharron de pollo with arroz con guandules, which was delicious. Definitely recommend this place to family and friends
We loved the place real puertorican menu and food only. The service is excellent all staff is very king and knowledgeable about the menu. We feel very comfortable and happy to feel and taste a piece of PR. I cant wait to come back and go to the domino’s tournament and karaoke nights
Excellent everything. The only thing we didn't like was the loud music
Food and service was excellent but for the cost, portions way too small.
The staff was very nice and accomodating. I first experienced the bar and outdoor patio, good drinks and ambiance. Prices are or the expensive side.
Dinner was good and the server was very nice and courteous although he was covering a lot of tables which made providing an excellent service impossible. We had a great time with the family but the a/c was so bad that I was sweating a lot.
I really liked the place and want them to succeed but I would like to see better service and an additional a/c untit.
Food was good but came to the table cold and service could be a lot better
This was my first time at La Placita. The food was amazing! Raúl, was a lifesaver as my waiter, he was on point at helping me decide what to explore on the menu as everything looked so good. I will definitely be back!
