This is one of our favorite DC restaurants. Not only is the food excellent, it has the feel of a restaurant you would find in France where the staff are committed, long-time staff who know their clientele and take great pride in the quality of food and service they provide. They provide a warm welcome and encourage diners to enjoy themselves — they do not rush them through a meal or out the door when they are done.
I have never had anything here that was not delicious. I feel I am back in France each time I dine there.
We love La Piquette. The food is of a higher caliber than your usual neighborhood bistro. And, it's always fun -- a lively scene without being too noisy or chaotic. The service is great. Our waiter gave us three different tastes of red wines to help us choose a bottle. Order the unique and delicious orange cake!
It was the perfect place to eat a warm French bistro meal on a cold winter night. Our food was superb, as always ; mushroom risotto and beef short ribs. Our servers were efficient and attentive ( and also very funny), and the ambience is so comfortable I want to say it is "hygge" -- but this place is in my neighborhood, not Copenhagen. Please don't all make reservations at once, tho; I want to keep eating here on a regular basis.
As always, très bon.
The best French Bistro restaurant in Washington, D.C. bar none!!!
Very good French comfort food. One criticism, they have added more tables, thus the two tops are too close together. There is no way not to be involved in your neighbors conversations. Getting in and out of the banquette requires a disturbance to your neighbor diner.
The food was amazing, and the service was friendly and upfront. We had a great time and will be returning... as soon as possible!
All of our courses were exceptional. My risotto with mushrooms was superb, and my daughter’s chicken simply prepared but delicious.
Outstanding food and service!
Don’t need to fly to Paris for this authentic meal.
A small neighborhood restaurant with excellent food.
La Piquette exceeded our expectations in every way! The food was nothing short of amazing. The branzino was so fresh. The beef short ribs melted in your mouth. Notable French red wine list. Juan, our server was friendly and attentive. He did not rush us. The chef, Francis, came over to meet us which was an extra special touch. The champagne was a nice surprise. I am delighted and will be a frequent customer. So happy!
Terrible service as waiter forgot to place our order. Second time it happens with same waiter. Blamed the computer system and didn’t offer as much as free water.
Great French food, near the French embassy, and excellent value!
Delicious and consistent! Beef short rib stew and monkfish with calamari, shrimp and mussles were tasty and cooked to perfection!
We are very lucky in my neighborhood of Cleveland Park/Cathedral Heights to have such an authentic, always consistent, gem among the slew of other restaurants that have popped up in recent years in this area. The food and atmosphere are what a French bistro should be like: warm, delicious hearty food, very attentive staff and a great wine list.
Outstanding restaurant. Best French bistro in Washington. Great menu, delicious food, wonderful waiters and manager. My favorite neighborhood restaurant
Love La Piquette. We have been here several times and each time is better than the next. The food is outstanding. We have not had a bad dish here. Love the ambience. Truly feel like we are in a Parisian cafe. The service is also outstanding and love that they don’t rush you through your meal. We can’t wait to come back
We love coming to this place. As close to a French Bistro in the DC area that you will find!
We love it!!!The food is always great and the service is great!!!
Great! Thank you. We will definitely be back frequently. Felt like we were in Paris.
Food was perfect. Especially the mushrooms!
LaPiquette's ambience is that of a busy French bistro. There is a garage door that opens the dining floor out to the patio that is very lovely in the evenings. The waitstaff is responsive and happy to explain any questions and the service was excellent. The foie gras was amazing, and authentic. I hate ordering foie gras and getting a substandard pate instead. Foie gras fans order with confidence. The wine list is either 100% French or close to it. If you are not familiar bone up on their wine list ahead of time. Good selections with a wine for every budget. I ordered the lamb t-bone which was excellent. The au gratin potato stood out; the best I've had. The lamb was cooked to temperature perfectly with a proper sear and nicely spiced without overwhelming the lamb. My wife ordered the duck. She wanted the duck's temperature more well than the chef would allow (ha!) but the chef did make it close to what she wanted. I thought the duck had lost is flavor at the temperature it was prepared, but in all fairness that's the way my wife likes it, and she loved the duck. We ordered the chocolate mousse and creme brûlée. The mousse was excellent, but the creme brûlée stood out as the best we've had. It was absolutely perfect. The Manhattan I ordered was average, and the bartender used those obnoxious red-died "Maraschino" cherries that impart a terrible taste to cocktails. On a positive note, they did have a rye available. If you've ever experienced Luxardo cherries in a cocktail you know exactly what I mean. We had a marvelous time, the food was absolutely authentic and prepared beautifully. The foie gras, lamb, potato gratin, and creme brûlée were perfection. Lovely little French restaurant. We will return soon!
The best bistro in DC.
We had an outstanding lunch. Wonderful place to be able to talk and enjoy great food!
Escargot excellent ditto steak Fries dissapointing also floating isles dessert. Wine very good but very expensive. Why not have a house wine?
This was our first time at La Piquette, and we liked it very much. Similar vibe and food as Le Diplomate but more low key. Great food: we had the cauliflower soup and steak tartare for appetizers and cassoulet and duck confit for mains, and we liked everything, esp. the duck. (Generous portion of really good fries accompanied the steak tartare, which allowed my wife to grab some.) Pretty good cocktails. Good, not great, French-centric wine list with pretty decent coverage throughout the major regions. Service was good, though unfortunately a busboy dropped a number of plates at one point. (Didn't really disrupt our dinner, just felt badly for him.) Noise level allows conversation without having to raise your voice. Given its location (within steps of a residential area and on a block with a number of restaurants and shops, including 2 Amys), I can imagine parking might be an issue, though a car was close to pulling out just as we arrived so we got lucky. We'll go back and recommend it to others.
Excellent wine, food, and service. Loved our meal and experience.
We love this place because the food is consistently great as is the service. It feels as though we are back in a Paris bistro when we step through the door.
Valentine’s Day lunch Superbe!
Wonderful food, thoughtful service, what a delight!
It’s our favorite “go to” place for a biz dinner.
Awesome as usual. I really don't like to tell people about this place given how good the food is, how well the staff & owner treat patrons and how wonderful the atmosphere is for fear it'll be harder to get a table ;-).
This was our first visit and we will definitely go back. The restaurant is very loud and the tables closed together but the food was excellent. We started with the grilled leeks and house salad, had cod and branzino for entrees, and the able tart for dessert. All were very good - the branzino and tart were especially delicious! We have been looking for a good French restaurant and this exceeded our expectations.
My girlfriend just moved to a DC for a new job. I was visiting for the weekend and wanted to take her somewhere nice for our 1-year anniversary. She's a fan of French bistros and we preferred a place in an otherwise unfamiliar neighborhood, so the online search began. La Piquette did not disappoint. The spot is cozy (perhaps too cozy if you like your space away from other patrons) and noisy, but the fantastic food and the excellent service make the trip worthwhile. She had the lamb t-bone, I had the short rib, and both were outstanding. Chocolate sorbet for dessert = heavenly. Top notch.
The French atmosphere/decor was pleasant, the waiters attentive. But the sound lever was very high -- and the tables close to each other. Speaking with friends was difficult. The food was served nicely. The filet was quite small. Better to order fish, rabbit or duck or French cuisine.
Great lunch. Asked for and got a quieter table at the end of a row. Easy to talk. Excellent lentil soup, fine salads, delicious cappuccinos.
Great place...but it has gotten pricey over the last year or so.
La Piquette is an authentic French bistro with a great wine list and fabulous food. Tables are a little too close together and it is a bit noisy when more than three quarters full.
Our second dinner at La Piquette was as outstanding as our first. My wife had great oysters and duck and I had golden beet salad with goat cheese and the rabbit. The service was crisp and the wine advice was perfect without breaking the bank.
Perfect son and father dinner. Best spot ever.
Came for brunch - the food was good, the service was great, and there was no need to make a reservation.
