Nestled amongst riverside treetops on Southgate’s mid level, La Camera boasts two balconies with stunning views over The Yarra River and iconic Flinders Street Station. The interior is adorned with vintage black-and-white photographs depicting the history of the family that has owned and operated the restaurant since it opened in 2000. La Camera Southgate offers an array of authentic Italian dishes including unique Roman-style pizzas, authentic Pappardelle Ox Cheek from Trastevere-Rome and by far the most delectable Tiramisu in town. The emphasis is on quality ingredients, and fresh seasonal produce.

    I was genuinely excited to try this place, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. The food quality was poor - definitely not what you'd hope for from an Italian restaurant. On top of that, the service was an absolute mess. Our waitress kept disappearing for long stretches, and when she was around, she was rude and unhelpful. The whole operation seemed completely unorganised, and even the drinks were subpar. Nothing about the experience made me want to return. Overall, a big letdown. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

    It really has gone down in standard . We have a reunion of friends there often. The food was terrible. The service was poor . We had to ask for the table to be cleared twice! After many years going there we won’t be back. Very disappointing as the venue itself is in an excellent location.

    It was quieter than expected and I had no trouble getting a booking even on a Friday evening. Balcony table overlooking the river. Perfect for conversing with friends. Plenty of pasta and pizza choices and the food arrived really fast. Only thing is that you do need to provide your credit card to the online booking system at the time of booking the table.

    LaCamera is always good. It’s one of my favourite restaurants. The staff are great and then restaurant is in a really good location.

    Unfortunately we were seated against a wall without any view in a busy thoroughfare section of the restaurant. We didn’t have an opportunity to enjoy to advertised view of the city is spite of having a booking. The food was okay, but we expected more given the reviews and advertising. Service was good, the staff were a mixture of attentive and helpful and abrupt and brash, we had a lovely waiter once we were seated.
