We loved our experience at The Table at Kuro Kisume. The chef was very personable and created a relaxed atmosphere. He prepared some really beautiful dishes and added theatre to many of the courses which added excitement. The food was all absolutely delicious, we loved every dish. The sommelier Kieran was excellent too. We was professional and knowledgeable and was very attentive and friendly. Maybe just slightly overpriced but only in comparison to other places like Attica. Needless to say we did really love Kisume though and would highly recommend it.
Chef was great and super friendly
Had great banter and service staff also excellent
One of the best experiences that I have had at a Chef's Table. The food and wine list was amazing
This is an amazing restaurant the philosophy of food is refreshing and definitely hits the mark.
My only criticism is that the service in the Chablis Bar was slow and made one feel a little uncomfortable.
However once at the chefs table everything was perfect.
OMG the beef and desserts were out of this world epic!!!
Kuro Kisume's The Table was a fantastic experience. The set up, the food, the chef and the ambiance were all top notch. One of the best dining experiences I have had. Although more on the pricier side, the food did not disappoint and everyone has left content and satisfied.
Complete different experience to Minimishima however still retain some traditions of the Kaiseki idiom. Chef is highly knowledgeable in all the ingredients and methods used for cooking and not afraid to share them when asked.
Amazing presentation of each dish, great chef, interesting conversation with other guests
Very different menu from any other Japanese restaurant we ever dined in
We had a seat at "The Table" with 11 other people. The place was very comfortable, well presented and had great food.
You can get good food at many restaurants but the interaction with the chef sets this place above others. Sharing the story and hearing the chef's inspiration behind each dish adds to the overall experience.
We did the food and wine match was provided an interesting and broad selection of beverages. We thought the wine match was expensive given that some glasses need to last more than one course.
It was an enjoble experience with high quality well presented and innovative cuisine, recommend for foodies with deep pockets.
Service was excellent
A beautiful menu with some amazing flavours (including fresh wasabi!), delivered with charm and good humour by the chef. There was an extensive drinks menu and John, the Sommelier, did an amazing job matching some lovely sake to compliment the different courses.
Don't expect a quite romantic meal . On the pricey end but an outstanding rating well deserved!
Hi, having dined numerous times downstairs and been totally wowed by the food and flair of the chefs, I brought 5 associates to The Table to impress the pants off them. It was overall underwhelming in comparison. The food service was far too rushed, especially considering the wine matches.
We had to ask for service to slow down. We really felt rushed out of there. Following lunch we continued our celebrations at the Chablis Bar, after ordering a $350 bottle we were then told we had half an hour to vacate the area. This was a little rude considering our bill exceeded $3000. We will return to Kisume, but not necessarily to The Table unless we have it exclusively with a bigger group perhaps. Thank you for the opportunity to review our experience. Kris
Welcoming restaurant staff; brilliant, knowledgeable and generous chef; excellent food. Kisume sets a high standard in showcasing high quality Australian produce cooked superbly. A memorable experience in all ways - particularly as Chef Moon presented us with an anniversary gift of his special wasabi grater. We appreciated Kisume honouring our lunch arrangement despite cancellations by other people. Indeed having the table and chef to ourselves provided a memorable and hard to top experience. Our only quibble was that the bar staff in the Chablis Bar were unsure whether to offer us a drink or assume that we were only there to kill time until lunch at 12:30. We received a drinks menu and then nothing... the waiter disappeared. I think your sommelier later realised that we had not ordered any drinks and fixed the issue promptly. The same waiter later served us through lunch, and his service then was impeccable - so perhaps it was all due to confusion caused by us showing up half an hour earlier than expected.
Thank you again, and our special thanks to Chef Moon and Kisume staff for making our anniversary a memorable one. We will certainly return as the food and experience is well worth repeating.
Regards
Ann
Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The food and service were outstanding and the interaction with the chef made for a fun and interesting evening. They've taken the model of kaiseki with a commitment to Australian only sourced product. Apart from the NT they had sourced for our menu product from every state in Australia. If you like Japanese cuisine and want a fine dining experience without the stuffiness that sometimes comes with that then you'll enjoy The Table at Kisume.
Absolutely easily 5 star. Such an intimate service we were made to feel very special and the food experience was like no other. Amazing ambience, the service from waiters was personal and subtle and chef moon was so amazing to watch and hear from, what a treat from an amazing chef. Bucket list ticked.
An outstanding evening and a spectacular dinner, thanks to the super entertaining and masterful chef Moon Kyungsoo.
The amount of thought, and effort that has gone into the menu for each evening is quite tremendous and shows. Chef Moon Kyungsoo has gone to great lengths to scour Australia to find the highest quality ingredients demanded of Japanese dining, produced fresh, within Australia itself. From Wasabi to Green Abalone, David Blackmore's 9+ Wagyu to Tuna Belly, the focus is not just on preserving the spirit of Japanese cuisine and the ingredients it demands - but the freshness too.
That is only half of it though, through his humour and personality, the meal is brought to life. Course after course is prepared and presented on some of the most imaginative and innovative cutlery - each in itself a piece of art, optimised to accentuate the dish presented upon it.
There is nothing here for r/WeWantPlates though - all of the cutlery is entirely practical while being beautiful. A balance so many forget in their desperate ambition of Instagram fame.
I didn't mention the drinks? They were amazing too. Cocktails were perfectly balanced. Hot Sake was amazing. The service to keep the booze flowing was A+. Prices for drinks were beyond reasonable too. I'm not a wine-o, so no comments here as we didn't get any. They have an amazing array of the world's very best though, so I'm sure you will not be disappointed if this is your poison.
Chef Moon Kyungsoo shared during the meal that the Japanese eat food in three ways:
1) With their eyes
2) With their nose
3) and finally with their Mouth.
Indeed, it was a feast for all three.
Do yourself a favour, go.
An absolutely divine evening with a down to earth, friendly, fun and knowledgeable chef. An incredible evening that sent tingles through all my senses and feeling totally inspired.
Outstanding Kaiseki Experience!
Amazing experience. The food and ingredients were amazing, showcasing the best meat, seafood and other ingredients Australia has to offer. Definitely going back
I recon it's the best Japnese cuisine in Melbourne
Excellent food, great way to dine, having the chef prep and discuss everything in front of you.
Some of the best dishes I've ever had.
Faultless
One of best fine dining restaurants in Melbourne. Each dish was inspired by different Australian local ingredients and cooked in Japanese ways, very creative.
The best thing about this restaurant was the tableware they used. In my view, tableware is the soul of a meal. Many fine dining restaurants in Melbourne focused too much on food plating, but paid less attention to the tableware they use. But at the Table, each course was served with matched tableware, which really enhanced the dining experience.
A truly amazing experience at The Table.
The food showcases Australian products and the ambiance is just great, the staff a friendly, knowledgeable and helpful without hovering.
Not to be missed.
We had a wonderful night- the chef was most interesting and entertaining and we learnt so much about Japanese cuisine! We would have liked more info from the sommelier about the wines he chose for us and we were seated approximately half an hour late but otherwise a fabulous experience. Thank you so much! It was fun meeting other diners at the chefs table too!!!
Kuro Kisume (otherwise known as The Table).. now this is an experience and the complete package! 12 lucky guests sit around the table and are absolutely spoilt with some amazing courses showcasing the best of our local produce (and also showing us that you don't need to import ootoro from Japan to serve a top high end Japanese meal!). All 15 courses were a delight, with the highlights being the hand picked mud crab mixed with sweet, creamy sea urchin, the "crazy" (as described by Chef Moon) Port Lincoln ootoro nigiri and the grilled David Blackmore wagyu 9+ with fresh Tasmanian wasabi and salt baked celeriac. Chef Moon was the ever-affable host and made the entire dining experience such a joy for everyone. He is an incredibly skilled chef and his passion comes through when he introduces each course. The service from the front of house was informed and friendly. Kisume are probably known more for their wine pairings but they also do a fantastic job with sake, which is what I had tonight. My meal at Kuro Kisume is one of the best meals ive had in a long time and one I will remember for some time yet.
Food was sensational, loved everything. Having the Chef prepare our food in front of us was informative and very entertaining. Everything was fresh and extremely tasty. The wine list was fantastic, something for everyone. Loved the vibe and still felt like were a part of the restaurant even though we were in the private dining room. Highly recommend!
Amazing! Loved it! Quality produce thoughtfully prepared. I'd definitely recommend for a special occasion.
Surpassed my expectations.
Chef Moon and his team were sensational. The whole experience was exquisite.
Definitely raised the bar in the Melbourne Dining scene
Incredible dining experience! It couldn't have been more perfect
Dining at 'The Table' was the best food experience i've ever had. The chef and staff were so knowledgeable, funny and polite they made the whole evening something to remember. Thanks for having us x
