Portion sizes are fine, but the food is very westernised and just really not really on par with the quality you’ll find elsewhere at that price point. The banquet had pretty average food items that weren’t overly impressive. The sake matching was nice and we still enjoyed ourselves, but there are much better places in Melbourne that cost a similar amount of money and for that reason I wouldn’t go back to Kumo.
Excellent food. Good service. Great range of sake, and the sake tasters (flights) are a great idea. Limited wine and beer, but what there is is good. While not a 'cheap eat', is good value given the top quality experience.
This was by far the most yummy Japanese food that we have eaten! Highly recommend and we will be returning again. Thank you!
Second visit to this local restaurant, and as impressed this time as I was the first time. Very attentive service (but not too much), the ambiance is subdued, a mixture of table-types and sizes, and the food is SPECTACULARLY GOOD. Really delicious small bits, taste sensations every one of them. Keep this up and we’ll be back. I guess you would say ‘modern Japanese’ - certainly recognisable elements but served in a really interesting way most suitable for sharing and nibbles.
Very tasty food with a good range of menu and alcohol options.
Very quick service (wasn't too busy). Great food, loved the whiskey!
Food is great, service is outstanding. Sadly the dishes are small and way overpriced. For $90 a head I would expect to walk out full not hungry.
Lovely food ... the wayermelon salad was just lovely... there were 3 at our table and we shared everything ... a MUST is the watermelon salad with kimchi👍👍gyozas were lovely but we werent keen on the sushi (deconstructed) .... but very fresh lovely food this is our second visit 👍
This is the second time i have been to this restaurant. The first time was when it first opened it it was great, this time. Not so much. The food was average for the price and portion sizes small - I can accept that if the food is great but it just wasn't. The Beef Tataki was not tender and so cold it must have just come out of the fridge. Miso Salmon was OK but very small portion. 2 people, no alcohol $85 and had to get a snack after as we were still hungry. There was no atmosphere as there were not many people in the restaurant and basically no music so just awkward.
Fabulous food, good service and great atmosphere.
Always delicious and consistent! Thanks
Lovely meal, nice atmosphere and friendly, well paced service. Drinks slightly pricey. Recommended, an enjoyable evening, thank you !
Came for an anniversary dinner and had a fantastic meal, highlight was the lamb shoulder dish, we will be back for sure!
Great friendly service. Good value for Omakase (chef's selection) with sake pairing (deluxe option available). Great sashimi, grilled eel and ramen gnocchi!
The food is amazing and fresh. We went to celebrate a birthday and it was very busy for a Monday nite. The building itself is a pleasure to be in and it was warm on a cold nite. We enjoyed the Japanese beer too. Food ihas very interesting menu. Highly recommend
We ate here with friends and had the Omakase selection. Food was very nice and service was prompt. Would definitely do the drive to eat here again. Food was a little on the pricy side for what was served though.
Very tasty Japanese food in Brunswick East. Service was generally good, although the staff were a bit too keen on us leaving before closing time (it was a Sunday night and there weren't many other patrons left in the place). Would certainly recommend to those who like this style of food.
Great traditional Japanese kitchen!
outstanding service. Prepare to leave some dollars but it's more than worth it. Will come back soon.
Local modern Japanese. I dine at least twice a week at Kumo, always friendly service and outstanding food. Sashimi is always fresh and the beer is always cold. Main courses and other dishes are on point. I usually book through open table as sometimes find it hard to get a spot if walk in on the odd occasion. I bring my nephew here, who is 5 years old, great little kids menu. Recommend it highly.
