Krakatoa Indonesian Cuisine
This is a hidden gem in Hollywood. The service staff was excellent and attentive without being intrusive. And the food was wonderful! Such a delicious and innovative menu is geared to please the most discriminating palate. Enjoy an exceptional meal now; I’m certain this restaurant is on its way up!
If you are not afraid of exotic-sounding dishes, then a visit to Krakatoa should be on your calendar. No one in our party of four had experienced Indonesian cuisine before, but everyone loved their fod, starting with the bala-bala (fried vegetable) appetizer -- we were going to order another before the waiter warned us the entrees were large. A wide range of entrees -- beef, lamb, chicken fish or vegetarian -- prepared with a delicious blend of spices (you can chose your level of heat) should please any diner. We live in north Broward County, but plan to return soon.
Delicious fresh food every time I have been to Krakatoa! The owner comes to your table to see what type of spice you like. He makes recommendations that will suit your palate! For an adventurous meal I highly recommend Krakatoa!!!
Service was great and the food was outstanding! They were really careful to protect two of us with food allergies and dietary restrictions, which they made very easy to navigate and our group of 12 was a very happy dozen when we left. We are still talking about it several days later.
Tap water needs to be filtered when served. Friendly waiters. Food was ok.
if you had asked anyone working in our restaurant you would have found that all drinking water and water to make ice is filtered. Making a comment such as this without verification is not appropriate and absolutely incorrect.
It was a beautiful experience to the taste buds. My wife and I totally enjoyed the food.
We were looking for something different and this was it. Very tasty, nicely presented and generous portions. But the standout was the service. Our waiter was charming and went out of his way to make us feel welcomed. We look forward to our next visit.
Excellent and flavorful food, nice service, warm and friendly owner. We all loved it!
We were a party of five. The staff was enthusiastic and helpful about their menu, making suggestions and describing dishes. We each had a different entree as well as sharing a couple of appetizers and we were all very happy with the wonderful flavors and unique presentation of the food.
The food was flavorful with exotic spices that is different but reminiscent of Thai or Indian food. The value was good. Bottles of wine were reasonably priced.
Our first time there but will return.
Genuine Indonesian food, excellent service, good value
Outstanding food, service, and decor! My husband and I were visiting from NYC and I had read all of the positive reviews. We were blown away with how good the food was. This restaurant is a gem and I will return every time I’m in Hollywood.
Great service from Pablo and very good food that is not easy to find in south Florida.
The food is amazing! Flavors my family had never tasted before.
It was a great experience. The food was delicious. We had some noodles and a lamb dish, succulent.
Unique cuisine wonderfully prepared and great service!
Wonderful experience. Worth the drive from Miami.
We had a reservation for 2 and sat at a small table near the entrance nut was very comfortable.
The staff is very friendly and efficient. They came by the table several times to be sure every thing was going well. The food was delicious ! It was our second time at Krakatoa and we will be going back regularly.
Have been to this place several times, I always like to mix of natural flavors and exotic dishes. Service is always great! Will certainly come back to continue trying their various options.
If you have never been to Indonesia you might think this is the real thing
The owners try very hard, service very attentive
The food just does not look too appealing
Why is it served in a tagine?
I wish them luck and maybe over time it will improve
The location was easily accessible and the restaurant’s decor funky and fun. What was most impressive was the spectacular flavor profiles. The food was meticulously prepared and the flavors were amazing. One of the owners came to greet us and he was very friendly and welcoming. Overall, it was a great experience. We will definitely be back!
The service was very attentive and even asked about any food allergies.
The food was an amazing sensation of seasonings and very generous portions
I was unfamiliar with Indonesian cuisine, and it was excellent. Somewhat similar to Thai, although a bit spicier. We arrived a few minutes late due to Hollywood's "fun run" and extra crowds for to spring break. The staff was very friendly. We had to wait a short while for a table. The restaurant is very small and we were offered an outdoor table which I generally prefer, but at 9:00, the music from next door was blaring. Anyway, the food was delish. We had the house special for 2. The rice was great, served in a cone shape like the volcano, Krakatoa. The beef, lamb, and chicken were each tender and flavorful. One in our group had the Seafood Mei, seafood with noodles, which was also a winner. All in all, it was a great dinner!
The food was absolutely phenomenal. One of the gals in our group walked passed the open kitchen and commented that "This place is the real deal - they are grinding their own spices!" Service was a bit spotty, but extraordinarily friendly and helpful. They just needed one more server.
Fantastic restaurant, great food, lovely service. Truly a wonderful and memorable experience and very unique for the South Florida area.
It's all about the tremendous flavors. Every dish was an experience. The owner was very patient with our questions and made excellent recommendations. We had a wonderful experience.
Food was delicious. Home made. Wonderful flavors. Can t wait to go back!
Wonderful flavors distinct from Thai etc. took special care of our allergies.
This was an excellent experience. The food was hot and flavorful. Moreover, it was reasonably priced and I didn’t feel bloated.
Amazing food, unique and bold flavors. I recommend the Gecok!
Food. Was excellent and service was great. Large portions and nice presentation. A ways from my home but anytime in the area I will return for sure. Everything was very fresh.
Had a great time and the meal was excellent
It was wonderful to find Indonesian food in an area where there are very few restaurants offering the specialty. The service was very good, the food was very good. The sound level of the music playing and the other parties dining was loud. Still, a very unique experience and lovely food. Wine & beer is offered.
I am addicted to indonesian cuisine thanks to this restaurant. Everything is delicious and fresh. Incredible chicken skewers with peanut sauce, fresh fish, and the best coconut rice I ever had!!! Small and cozy with authentic food!!!
The first time I tasted Krakatoa cuisine, they had just opened a stand at the Yellow-Green Farmers market. That’s all it took to get me to come back again and again. Years later, I’m still raving about the unique and creative offerings, and with the expanded location in trendy downtown Hollywood, this is not to be missed! A surprise for your tastebuds!
My second visit. Interesting, tasty, and uncommon food. Dishes that are not often found in this area. Well presented. Ample portions. Friendly and helpful staff.
What a treat! The food was tasty, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. We're coming back!
First time eating Indonesian food so nothing to compare it to. But we really enjoyed it. Great service. Large portions, nicely served. Simple ambiance but constant with all else. Wine list is quite limited. Recommended.
Parking was fairly simple for that area. The restaurant is obviously in the old buildings of downtown Hollywood but I don’t use that to judge a restaurant food quality. I don’t care if the place is a total dive if the food is good. The food here was definitely good as I went here for lunch on my birthday with my mother. I was told upon arriving that if I got any satay That they don’t like their charcoal grill until 6 PM and it would have to be pan fried. Which is entirely not the purpose of satay. I was real disappointed about that and the fact that they don’t say that anywhere when you look up the restaurant. I feel that if the restaurant is open at these hours you should be able to get their entire menu or it should be specified. I drove 30 miles from Boca to try this place so that part was disappointing.
As far as the food I thought it was good. Our first appetizer which was the corn cakes were definitely different and very tasty. Our second appetizer was the fish croquettes. They were good but just not really my thing. My dinner was the lamb dish and it was good the rice was delicious the salad was good the presentation was good the sauce on the lamb was very good but the lamb was a bit dry. We tried to get coffee which they did have but when they served it they tried to give us powdered creamer and for me that’s an absolute no-no and that stuff is disgusting. For a restaurant they should never serve powdered creamer in my opinion. So we sent the coffee back.
What are you here again? I probably would. Would I drive 30 miles to eat here again? Probably not. Don’t get me wrong the food was good but I don’t think that it’s five star food the way it is rated. To me it’s more 3 1/2 to 4 star food but I am a food blogger for a living so what’s the licious to some people might just be OK to me. Like I said nothing about this place was bad except the coffee creamer and the fact that the charcoal grill was closed without telling people upfront.
