Kokomo's Restaurant - Old Lyme
Firsr few visits were fine, now seafood not fresh, service is slow, sand not clean this last visit. Too bad as view is beautiful and so many improvements done this year.
Ordered calamari, poke, and a hot lobster roll. Food and service was good! View and setting on the beach was perfect - with some music drifting over from next door.
I don’t understand the reviews on yelp . This place is a hidden gem . I went last minute Fourth of July and loved it . Worth the trip from NYC. I stayed in Mystic the whole weekend and drove her for some drinks and dining by the water and their service was great . General manager very attentive . Food was good . It was orderly and clean . Recommend .
Ambiance aas nice food was ok, truffle fries were best part of my dinner and our waitor while nice was absent for a bit. We waited a little longer theb we would have liked. But ill try it again. Benefit of the doubt for covid issues
We loved having our feet in the sand while we enjoyed the view, cocktails and dinner. It’s pricey but service was great and food/drinks were good. My husband loved his beer battered cod. Calamari was good except for the parsley which was like chewing construction paper.
Overall I t was good however I get due to Covid price of food and drinks have increased a bit too much. 25$ for a lobster roll was a bit much.
Food was cold
Reservation was for outside they placed us inside
It was a great experience. The service was excellent and very friendly and the food was delicious as usual.
Food was excellent
Service was excellent
Place was run down, but it’s right on the water!
Maybe the perfect spot to forget the Covid pandemic for a little while. Our table was on the beach! Toes in the sand! Our server was outstanding, extremely helpful and pleasant. The food was ok, maybe even pretty good. Calimari was good (maybe a little cold), but good. The fried clam strips were very tasty. There is something for everyone on the menu. but you don't necessarily go for the food - you go for the location and the view - and they are spectacular! Will go again! Drinks are cold and a nice selection local craft brews!
Five of us- only ordered entrees- first two came out together- then others ones in one at a time- at least 10 minutes from first to last.
The restaurant was out of nearly everything we tried to order (literally), which may be a sign of a busy weekend or trying to anticipate what to order for the limited capacity rules, but was disappointing nonetheless. The food was really good, but the portions were small (very) for the price - $18 for steamed clams, that came with 7 (?) in a bowl (it's under small plates, but......) $17 for a tuna poke bowl that, although it was tasty, had only a sprinkling of tuna. The waitress said that they ran out of this right after we ordered, so I did wonder whether they split one portion across the two of us that ordered it. My husband ordered a sandwich pretty much as soon as we sat down, and got it 45 minutes later.. after my mom and I had already been served two rounds of drinks. They ask that you limit your stay to 1.5 hours, but this definitely wouldn't have been feasible given the time it took to order something they had ingredients for, wait for it to be made, and enjoy it.
You are definitely paying for the location - literally on the sand. It was a nice afternoon, but I'm certainly not itching to go back.
Great staff. Good food. And the view is CT finest.
Great find!! So happy to have a table actually on the sandy beach. Food was good. Service was great!! My lobster Mac and cheese was heavy handed on the pepper flake though so it was spicier than I would have liked.
I have to say that seeing the rating for this place did not fill me with a great deal of hope, but my wife and daughter wanted to take me to a beachfront place for Father’s Day, so I kept an open mind. I was pleasantly surprised! The location is beautiful - right on the beach in Old Lyme. The staff were very friendly, accommodating and attentive. The food was excellent - although my fried whole bellies arrived far more cooked than I prefer. HOWEVER, 2 minutes after our meals came, the owner/manager came over to check on us and specifically asked about my meal. I admitted the clams were very overcooked for my taste, and he said that he saw that a mile away. He whisked the plate away and in 6-7 minutes I had a beautiful plate of whole bellies in front of me. He also asked my daughter about the lobster Mac and cheese - he said some customers reported it was too spicy. I cook spicy all the time so it suited her taste just fine - and I can report the couple bites I stole were delicious. My wife loved her hot lobster roll as well. And their fried are super good - crispy and flavorful.
The food was good, but the experience was made excellent because of the obvious concern and dedication that the owner/manager showed. He and the staff CLEARLY care about the experience of their guests. I think that is lacking in some places, but I, for one, am very appreciative of the service received! Well done, Kokomo’s!
Food was extremely overpriced for the serving sizes. My lobster bisque was broth and only one small piece of lobster in it. Our lobster roll only had very small amounts of lobster in it- two small claw pieces and a few small chunks of other meat. It was $22 for the lobster roll and $12 for the bisque. I will not go back.
Parking on a busy summer weekend was near impossible, but the Manager stepped in to help. That was very much appreciated! The atmosphere was fun, staff used appropriate PPE and seemed to clean well. Our food was delicious. Hope to go back, but we'll add travel time for parking. We drove in from East Hartford (1 hr), and it was worth it.
We want on Father's Day- perhaps a mistake. The whole beach neighborhood was packed- no parking anywhere. Our table was ready, which was great. But the party scene on the beach was sort of crazy- more like the Jersey Shore than the Caribbean. The service was ok- our waittress was nice but we had to request certain things multiple times. And our food took forever to come. The food itself was fine- nothing earth shattering. The drinks were great. The price was insanely high for what it was.
Came here for Father’s Day. The food was expensive for what it is. Got three pieces (slices) of steak meat for steak tacos. Got three pieces of lobster meat for lobster Mac and cheese. It was also very spicy and the menu did not say anything about hot chili pepper. Tuna Poke Bowl was very VERY small portion, almost like an appetizer for the price of main entree. It was a terrible place. The value for what it is was not worth it. Do NOT go here.
Calamari portion was kind of small. Right on the beach.
The restaurant staff, food, service, etc. were excellent. We were treated very badly by the Town of Old Lyme parking lot "rangers" and police officers. Unfortunately this will discourage us from coming back.
Had an excellent time at Kokomo's. My three lounge chairs where we reserved for me and my daughters which brought me there on Saturday June 20th 2020. For an early Father's Day. So as we lay out in the sun and the waitresses were very nice and professional. Out in the sun drinking margaritas😎. Only two each. So we did that from 12:30 to 4:30. Not bad for $10 rental each chair. And then at 4:30 we had a table reserved right on the sand. Nice umbrella to protect us from the Sun. And the service was great!!! As the manager Drew try to accommodate as well. I had the clam strips what's fries. Very good along with a salad😎👍. And the girls went with the tacos, along with salads. I have to be honest they said the tacos could have used a little more meat in them. Just being honest. So yeah when we got done and paid the bill. The manager Drew surprised me and offered a piece of cake for Father's Day. That was so cool of him😎👍. Strawberry Shortcake. So tasty. Me and the girls shared it together. Definitely recommend this place. I definitely hopefully along with my daughter's my twin daughters God ☝blessed twin daughters I should say. Will definitely be back again. Thank you so much to the crew there really friendly young kids outgoing. Enter drew the manager😎👍👍👍👍
What a great experience! We felt like we were at a tropical island eating at our table on the sand surrounded by palm trees! Our waitress was very nice and food was delicious (Mediterranean appetizer plate, beet salad, fish tacos, caprese salad and chicken sandwich)! We will return!
Atmosphere was great. A bit pricey but overall it was good
The food barely had any seasonings . The menu wasn’t diverse. The red snapper was absolutely disgusting and wasn’t pan seared correctly and for the price barely came with anything .
They did a good job for Covid- the food was just ok but it would be a great spot for a nice cocktail on the beach. Would really recommend for a lunch as it would be beautiful and warm. Gorgeous set up right on the beach
Food horrible and EXTREMELY OVERPRICED for the quality. Hoping we don’t get sick!!
We traveled approximately 40 minutes from New Haven on a beautiful Saturday evening.
The location is absolutely breathtaking right on the beach. I applaud their attempt to social distance as the tables were spaced nicely and which made us feel "safe".
They young waitress was very nice and accommodating.
I ordered one fish taco and one shrimp taco and my fiancee ordered the king crab legs.
As the food arrived, we were shocked.
My shrimp taco contained a grand total of two shrimp which were tasty but less filling.
The king crab legs consisted of one small crab leg.
No we often dine in NYC and all over Connecticut so we don't mind paying for a good meal and dining experience and I am in no way a "cheap" or "thrifty"
It's just that one small king crab leg is not worth $52.
I asked to speak with the manager who was very nice and apologetic and comped us two desserts but the issue really wasn't resolved.
Maybe they should just eliminate king crab legs from the menu if they can't "up" the serving amount.
Again the restaurant and location is awesome but I can't say that we will be returning there anytime soon....
We were their celebrating my bday and it was great food was delicious definitely bring money lol
Ben, our server, was AMAZING, the staff was on top of social distancing and measures to remain safe amid COVID-19. The food was phenomenal and priced appropriately.
The riff raff of the beachgoers next door was the only downfall- however much beyond the control of the KOKOMOS staff.
We enjoyed it so much we are going back tomorrow!
This was my first visit to the restaurant and it definitely won't be my last! It was such a beautiful setting, we sat right on the beach, our feet were in the sand. And despite all the chaos with the virus and the rules & regulations I think that they did a pretty good job. The food was delicious & so was the cocktails. The wait staff was friendly. This would be a great date night destination and also a fun trip out with friends. Don't hesitate to try this place out!
The wait for food was over an hour.
The meal was unsatisfactory
The location is great right on the water, but certainly would not go there again
More like a beach bar, for the younger crowd. Menu is only available on your i-phone, no paper menus. Drinks were decent, food was good. Service and wait time was bit long.
Beautiful view - feels like you are at an island resort. Awesome staff. Great food and drinks. Was surprised this place existed in CT
Very peaceful for a date night. We were able to remove our shoes and bury our feet in the sand, while eating.
Nothing beats a beachfront restaurant on a sunny day. Staff is doing a good job adhering to guidelines regarding spacing, sanitizing etc. Location great. Menu is good - but its attempt to be more upscale makes it more expensive and quality/taste doesn’t match. Paying for atmosphere.
The food was mediocre. Fried fish was saturated with oil, lobster Mac and cheese was very very salty, lobster roll had very little lobster. The clam chowder was decent but only Luke warm. Overall extremely pricey for the amount and caliber of food and drinks that we got. Won’t go back
Husband and I wanted to get out after being in the house. First time here and enjoyed ourselves, staff was very accommodating even with the restrictions in place right now. Will definitely go back.
The feeling of being in the Caribbean sitting by the water with amazingly fabulous dinner. The waitress was friendly and very receptive to all the questions we had. Need to go back and try the other items on the menu that sounded so good..
With all the new limitations in restaurants, Kokomo's does a great job still making your experience fun. They updated their menu with lots of new options which is great. The cocktails are always delicious. A great time all around.
