Find us in the heart of Flinders Lane, a stones throw from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square, and discover three levels of dining. Our modern sushi bar and restaurant sit in the basement and ground floor, while Kuro Kisumé sits discreetly on the first level. Kuro, our most bespoke experience, encompasses The Table, two private dining rooms, an elegant Chablis bar and Winewall specially-curated by Philip Rich.
We love Japanese food and all that surrounds a Japanese meal. Kisume provided that in spades. We will be back.
Six of us friends were there for dinner on Sat night. It was packed & the ambience was cozy. We had been there b4 & had enjoyed our previous food experience. We were equally impressed this time too- we chose the a-la-carte menu & enjoyed some beautifully textured & tasty dishes. Great Japanese flavours! We all had a great night. Def one of the best Japanese restaurants we’ve been to. Service was great too. Thanks Kisume!
absolutely outstanding from the moment you arrive to the time you leave. every element from the food, the wine selection and service could not have been better.
Kisume’s menu is always loaded with fresh ideas and incredible tastes. Exquisite plating makes it hard to choose a favourite...luckily nothing disappoints!
The food was absolutely amazing. Probably the best Japanese food I have ever eaten. The cocktails were novel and beautifully balanced, and the service friendly and impeccable. You pay for the experience but that’s OK. My 2 friends were similarly blown away by the food. The prices are not on their website so be aware this will be a pricey night out.
Very disappointing meal. We had to send our steak back three times as it was well done and we had asked for ours rare/medium. Then the floor manager completed belittled us, stating they’d give us dessert on the house to make up for it... we had dietary requirements so dessert wasn’t really an option for us anyway. Additionally one of the main meals we ordered never arrived. And three drinks in total never came. Overall disappointed in the service.
Sat at the sushi counter with 3 different omakase options - went with the 88 omakase and we were not disappointed. Great bottle of pinot grigio to accompany. Next step will be the chefs table for a special occasion!
Fantastic selection of dishes. We enjoyed every meal, especially the sashimi
One of the best in Melbourne. Always great food and amazing service. The music is just loud enough to block out other neighbouring tables so you only hear the conversations on your own table.
Service was exceptional. The food was absolutely amazing I couldn’t have been happier to choose this restaurant to take my best friend for her birthday. Also a massive shoutout to one of the chefs for the complimentary dishes ☺️
Absolutely amazing food, great service and overall sensational vibe
Good ambience for a date, very meticulously prepared dishes, overall good quality.
Some dishes let it down (soft crab rolls) with a poor taste, hard tempura and chewy texture. Tuna tataki as well was average.
Definitely could be a 5 star if a bit more attention is addressed to some of the ingredients.
A disappointing experience. Lack of service and very slow, they were even not busy only a few tables. We been waiting over 45 minutes for 6 shucked oysters and ended up we have to cancel it. The hot dishes was extremely salty and the size was very small for a main.
We tried the tasted menu, it didn't deserve the price at all.
One of our favourite Melbourne restaurants, excellent food and service.
A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience celebrating my husband birthday. The Chablis list is very extensive and the sushis and sashimis where not only beautifully prepared and presented but also succulent. We felt the seared duck was served a bit in the cold side but that’s the only negative I can think of! The sitting at the sushi bar was awesome and we were impressed with the chefs actions at preparing sushis
Much better than expectation : good service and good food.
Gorgeous to be at the sushi bar watching dishes as they're prepared. A real treat. The attention to detail is perfect.
Food was amazing! Would definitely comeback and recommend friends and family.
The atmosphere and the experience makes it worthwhile. I didn't love the food but it was nice and I'm glad I went.
Bit pricey but worth it if you can afford . Fresh ingredients and flavourful food.
Great experience. Brilliant service. Pretty pricey but worth it as a one off.
Went as a family, for my wife’s birthday and loved the food and service. They made an effort to acknowledge her birthday which was very nice
Food was good as always. Good variety of dishes in the tasting menu. Stand out dishes were the sashimi/sushi box and the tenderloin with foie grass. Would recommend.
Amazing food! Best edamame, best kingfish, everything was amazing. Just divine! Arguably melbournes best Japanese!
1. When I booked the appointment I asked to have Happy birthday on dessert plate as I've seen photos on zomato/instagram. but it wasn't done. I wasn't going to ask the staff in front of my partner again as it was meant to be a surprise.
2. At the sushi counter we wanted to share a 10 pieces menu, like 5 pieces each. We saw the other couple done it by picking one each. but the staff waiting our table didn't give us that option at all and rather pressured us to order one set for each. And that would be too much sashimi for us plus the other dishes we ordered.
Service was outstanding, very helpful whilst ordering food and drinks. Very nice to see it has two levels. No complaints ! Worth the money $$$
Kisume is great. High quality food, great ambience and very professional staff. They forgot a few things off our order more than once but were polite and apologetic. Can definitely recommend this place!
Food was weird and was not properly spiced. Parts of the plate were warm, other parts were cold...
Food was sublime and presentations were superb. Service was horrific - better at McDonalds. For this price point and food quality I would expect a staff which was actually trained, knowledgeable, and who actually cared about their guests. Unfortunately none of these things represent the actual skill of the servers at Kisume. Way too focused on portraying how cool and aloof they were in their all black Armani to pay attention to customers. Missed orders, customer had to catch boiling soup that server was spilling to avoid injury, no communication about a delayed order and impatience when asked a question. Won’t be back.
Fabulous restaurant - amazing food and excellent service
3 of us enjoyed a good lunch at Kisume. We shared a selection of small plates, all of which were filling and delicious. The waiters were attentive and helpful and didn't press us to order more food than we wanted. The flavours of our food was really good and interesting. We would surely be back another day possibly for dinner. Thank you.
My girlfriend and I went to Melbourne for a long weekend. Always been a fun for fancy Japanese food but Kisume kinda let me down, first of all it’s the service. It’s definitely not a fine dining level, we didn’t even get all the menus( as we were sitting at the sushi counter but only got an a la carte menu), there was no introduction of the restaurant, what kind of dining experience we would like to pick, the waitress just came to us 30secs after we sat asking for drinks. Even a smaller restaurant on the Gold Coast cold do better than these. The food I would say it’s okay, I mean fresh but not impressive. Sushi made with Grilled tuna band tuna toro together just ruined it all... we saw sea urchin when chef was preparing for other guests and we had to ask to order. isn’t the purpose of having waitstaff is helping improving guest dining experiences.
Excellent food, however was quite pricey
Also there was a credit card surcharge on all cards, given that meal was approx $150 per person, is it fair to assume people carry that much cash in person?
Service on wine was very slow. One small plate food order got "lost" and then was served at same time as main plate. Otherwise great food and venue and service.
The food came in at good intervals with explanation of what we were being served. Every dish had amazing flavours. We were 9 in total & we all enjoyed the food. The liquor selection was also great with so many Japanese wine & liquor to choose from. A great night overall
Delicious food, and incredible service. It’s a bit expensive but you get what you pay for in terms of both food and service. Definitely recommend.
Best sashimi and kingfish, sushi wasn’t as spectacular but still good. Steak with froie gras and yakiniku was delicious! Sardines and eggplant underwhelming. Will return.
Quite the experience sitting up at the counter enjoying the performance of the sushi chefs.
Exquisite food and wine.
Disappointed experience overall at this restaurant. The food was ok, the service was in absence at times.
The main issue is we were asked to move upstairs if we want to have dessert because they need to take back the table. There is no dining session allocation nor advised. We're not happy so we left.
