Find us in the heart of Flinders Lane, a stones throw from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square, and discover three levels of dining. Our modern sushi bar and restaurant sit in the basement and ground floor, while Kuro Kisumé sits discreetly on the first level. Kuro, our most bespoke experience, encompasses The Table, two private dining rooms, an elegant Chablis bar and Winewall specially-curated by Philip Rich.
Omakase is good value for money . Tasty , fresh, good presentation, friendly staff.
We ordered 5 dishes, 2 to start the 3 to finish. They came out 2-2-1 so we ended up eating 2 plates of flavourless tempura without the cauliflower and mushroom salad which was the best part. Not what I expected for the money that I paid
Not worth the money. Service staff were not friendly and very abrupt. Only saving grace were the sushi & sashimi dishes. Mains were very disappointing. In terms of value & the calibre of the restaurants on Flinders Lane, I would not recommend Kisume.
Exquisite food and impeccable service. No part of our dining experience could be faulted.
Sashimi is amazing but sushi rice a little bit sticky.
Receptionist is sweet and nice, and a guy waiter is nice as well. However, one of waitresses who has blonde short hair and wear glasses, her attitude is not really good and not very professional at such 2hats restaurant. Please do more training to her!
Booked dinner here for a birthday and had a really great night. It was pretty busy but overall a good atmosphere. The wait staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was fantastic. We had a mix of cooked items, sushi, sashimi and dessert, with all of it being excellent. Would recommend.
We are visiting Melbourne and Kisume” was recommended by a person who lives here. The food was creative, an excellent combination of flavors and the staff was very informative and helpful.
The saki choices are exceptional.
We would definitely go back to this restaurant.
Overpriced food and pretty ordinary flavours. The best thing was the chargrilled brocoli
My boyfriend and I went here last week for his birthday and had such a good time. Food was awesome, wine selection and the staff's knowledge of the menu was ace and our waitress was so lovely. We're both hospo professionals so we know good food and service when we see it! Have already been recommending to friends and thinking of my next visit. Also special thanks for the staff for the special birthday desert for my boyfriend- no embarrassing candles, which was perfect! Such a nice night.
This is a wonderful Melbourne dining experience for date night or a special occasion (must try lunchtime too). Smart surroundings, attentive welcoming staff, great wine list, and, most of all, very good modern Aust-Japanese food. Great dishes that would please the traditionalist but also delight the more avant-garde. Well done all, thank you very much.
I'm not a massive fan of sushi and sashimi, but my girlfriend is. Regardless, the food at Kisume is delicious. I honestly liked everything about the place. I rated the value for money 4/5, but that's just because I'm not used to spending so much on dinner. I think, realistically, what we got definitely exceeded what we paid for!
Delicious Food, great cocktails + wine. Service top notch - definitely be back
It was just OK. ambience was really ordinary and does not match the menu price point. Food was average for the price you pay. Overall didn’t think it was very worth it.
Booked the sushi table as was wishing to have yakamase menu, huge delay due to traffic accident but called in advance to inform the kisume and was told it's ok. But got told that sushi table can't be held when arrived and only normal menu is available. Overall food is good but not impressive as its yakamase sushi and not in good value... Dinning services are excellent though.
Outstanding Japanese food. Ambience service and food always wonderful.
Stunning food and service throughout the evening. Though dropped the ball at the end which spoilt the experience.
If we can’t finish dessert and want nothing else to drink why wouldn’t you give us the bill, and then be on hand so we can pay and leave? We had to chase both up after waiting, waiting. Surely you would want your customer to pay and go rather than sit and watch you clean up!!
The 13 piece omakase was superb, the while experience would have been perfect but one of the waitress was surprisingly unfriendly
Fabulous food thanks so much -we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The wine list was also very impressive. Great ambience..................................................
Food is good, but not the best meal I have ever had. We chose the $120 set menu and I was expecting a fan fare. However what we got was endless sushi. Desert was to die for and I would go back there just for that. But at $409 for a dinner for 2 with 4 drinks , bit rich.
Was wonderful. Truly spectacular even for us who are both vegetarian. Only feedback is, when we arrived, we were asked if we were there to celebrate a special occasion, we said yes, we just got engaged. The lovely (front desk, host lady who seated us) lady asked if we would like some bubbles to celebrate. We said yes. Was shocked at the bill at the end when we were probably charged for the most expensive champagne on the menu ($32 per glass). Would have been nice if we were asked before hand which champagne so we were aware of the cost, came as a shock! That’s all though. Other than that, superb experience.
Service is generally good this time round, the chefs are amazingly courteous, despite being swamped with orders and the service staff are respectful too, save for one rough fellow. Throwing utensils and yanking the EFTPOS machine off a customer's hands? Really?
Wasn’t amazing for price ended up paying , service ok but staff just reading a script , not overly enthusiastic about what they were providing . Overall comes down really value for money , I was expecting better quality for amount we paid
We did enjoy our experience, being from Sydney, we are limited with amazing Japanese experiences, this one topped my list. To bring my wife to a place in Melbourne, after my exhausting day of meetings, it was an event we were both looking forward to.
The booking was seamless, the arrival via our Uber driver was convenient, the reception guest was great and Matthew (the restaurant manager I believe) was on point with his professionalism. We looked at the menu, we got really excited, we were so keen - it was a no brainer to choose the best package available $175 pp I believe it was.
The dishes one by one started coming out, omg the edamame, the taste WOW!!! all the other meals were so good!!!....1 hour into it....really enjoying the consistency of the meals....but then....
We waited....we talked about our life, work, Melbourne etc..... looked around for waiters looking at us (none around) .... so we waited some more..... 35+ minutes later....I had to ask the waitress what has happened to the rest of the meals (4 left to be exact, 3 hot food mains and then the dessert).....magically enough....after my little whisper to the waitress, 3 meals came out straight away, the cauliflower, the chicken and the steak....but this point, our appetites had already settled and as they say, your brain catches up to your stomach after 20 minutes or so...!! So I politely asked the waitress can we take out (assuming we couldn't - but I hate wasting food).... the waitress said she'll ask the manager (never came back)...so I asked another waitress....then Matthew came around and spoke to us to see what our issue was... I provided the above experience....
Matthew was so nice and understood and wanted to make sure we were happy with our decision, we decided to opt to only pay for the $120 pp set menu and the drinks...Thanks Matthew, some others would ask for a full free meal night....
We would come again, just not for the wait....
Thanks Kisume =)
Food is amazing. Our seat was right at the back and hard to get anyone’s attention. Wait staff weren’t very friendly or helpful. Cocktails took forever to get to the table. We got our bottle of wine before they arrived after asking if they were still coming.
Great dinner but service a bit slow
Best Contemporary Japanese in Melbourne with a level of service to match!
The grace of service along with the knowledge of staff is what sets this Gorgeous Restaurant at the peak of the food chain where it belongs as the food here is an experience on its own, not seen in Melbourne before.
I love everything about Japanese cuisine, paired with incredible Australian seafood it didnt disappoint.
Friendly and very helpful staffs
Tasty food and beverages
Been here many times and always had perfect impression.
Disappointed to find out the tempura tower is off the menu.
Dare night with my Hubby. It was an amazing experience. Great Service and Delicious Food.
My only complaint was that we were charge a massive public Holiday surcharge and was not told about it. Just appeared on the Bill
We loved our first experience at the Chefs Table upstairs. On this occasion we were disappointed with the service and didn’t think it represented good value whatsoever. It won’t stop us from going back...but we will make sure we book for upstairs again next time
The food and service was outstanding and amazing!!
The staff were very friendly and seemed very knowledgeable about the food and went about in a very professional manner.
Amazing food, drinks, service and vibe! Perfect for date night or dinner with friends :)
Can not fault the food, so yummy and lots of options. Beautiful restaurant with lovely staff!
Booking is a must, will be back for sure. Can not recommend Kisume enough :)
The food was delicious and couldn’t fault the service.
Loved everything about Kisume. The decor really sets the mood for a special occasions. My boyfriend and I were there to celebrate our anniversary and decided to splurge on a good meal and Kisume definitely surpassed our expectations. The servers all carried themselves with poise and were very meticulous in making sure our table was set perfectly with each dish that arrived. They were also able to give us good recommendations in terms of portion, how much food to order, what dishes go well together etc. Food was great and presented very well, as expected. Overall a great experience.
Kisume is one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne. The Chablis bar upstairs is such a perfect way to start your Kisume experience. It is a beautiful mix of classy and stylish while being relaxed and welcoming. Downstairs in the restaurant, the food and the service is consistently impeccable. There is a certain finesse to everything they do. I always order the tasting menu and it never disappoints. The sushi is a taste sensation, the sashimi melts in your mouth, the miso cod is heaven, and their desserts are an experience each and every time. I cannot rate this place highly enough.
Food that we received was fantastic and service staff very friendly. Unfortunately we did not receive our last dish. We waited 50 minutes for our last main dish to be delivered, and when we prompted the waitstaff we were told that "your dish is the next one to leave the kitchen". I'm not sure if this was just a generic line or the waitress thought we were genuinely stupid because we were sitting right opposite the kitchen and watched on for the next 25 minutes as numerous dishes left the kitchen, none of them ours! We had explained that the reason we were hurried to finish our meal was that we had a concert to get to. I appreciate that sometimes dockets get misplaced or orders mixed up, accidents happen! But i would have appreciated if the waitstaff had've acknowledged their mistake and instead offered to bring us a different dish which could've been served quickly! Instead we were invited to pay the bill before our final meal had been served, in order to speed up our leaving afterwards (with not even a complimentary round of drinks). The waitress would have realized that our dish would not be ready in the 15 minute window we had before we had to leave, but insisted on serving our dish in order to save face. As a result, when we went to leave, we had to wait around for a refund for the dish that we did not receive (which was an embarrassing and awkward end to our date night). In the end we were late to our show and hungry for its duration. For a restaurant which charges high end prices it is not acceptable service.
A quality night all around
Quality staff (very accommodating)
