Find us in the heart of Flinders Lane, a stones throw from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square, and discover three levels of dining. Our modern sushi bar and restaurant sit in the basement and ground floor, while Kuro Kisumé sits discreetly on the first level. Kuro, our most bespoke experience, encompasses The Table, two private dining rooms, an elegant Chablis bar and Winewall specially-curated by Philip Rich.
Another wonderful night at Kisume. The food was delicious and the service perfect.
Best Japanese food I have ever had and I have been to a lot of Jap resturants... service was amazing, complimentary drink was very nice
The fish was amazing, so fresh, melted in my mouth
Not going to lie, better than Nobu
Well done guys, I will definitely be back
Exceptional service despite what is currently going on in the world. The staff were grateful to have you there and very helpful. Not to mention the food was SENSATIONAL and genuinely good value. Would highly recommend for a special evening.
Absolutely LOVED it. The food was amazing, the service was exceptional. We cannot wait to come back! I was especially excited about the wagyu beef and sashimi. Thank you for making our visit very special and for the outstanding food and service.
The food was exceptional - quality, presentation, flavour delicious. The staff were excellent until we paid, leaving a $70 tip - then then ignored us not even acknowledging us as we left the restaurant - maybe the tip was not enough?
The food was amazing.
The cod was soooo delicious, it’s a must have item!
beautiful Japanese food, could be in Tokyo. Sitting at the counter was a lovely experience watching the meticulous care and respect for ingredients
Outstanding food and atmosphere! Just love coming here.
Nice restaurant with excellent dishes !
Will definitely come back !
A genuine omakasi experience. Great service all round, fantastic personnel (esp Jun) and the food was well prepared and very tasty. A bit expensive but worth it for a treat
Fantastic food. Efficient and friendly service. No need to say anymore.
Best Japanese in Melbourne.
Great food, impeccable service, lovely atmosphere and you can hold a conversation.
Quality, innovative Japanese fusion food for a special occasion.
A very special occasion restaurant which we really enjoyed. Food was so delicious and beautifully presented
Attentive service, flavoursome and artistic food, slick sommelier - well worth a visit.
We had the 2nd Chef's tasting menu of three for two people, and it was splendid. The sushi and sushimi courses were exquisitely presented and tasted wonderful. We enjoyed a junmai sake with lots of flavor to accompany it. The set menu offered good variety and some beautifully crafted and tasty vegetable dishes. The only quibble was with the gyoza which were very crispy and a little dry. We would have preferred them shallow fried rather than deep fried. The fillet steak was fine but perhaps a little unimaginative coming as it did as a single piece to be shared between two. The dessert was very light and finished off the meal well. We had eaten here several times beforehand and felt that the high standards have been maintained. The restaurant is very atmospheric, watching the chefs preparing the food is absorbing, and Kissume really captures the essence of the best restaurants in Japan.
Food was exquisite. The evening was amazing from start to finish.
Was recommended by friends and being a Lucas group establishment I had high hopes. Unfortunately I was expecting a more high end experience that matched the prices of the dishes, sadly it was basically a Japanese version of Chin Chin with Nobu prices. The food was ok, the venue is great and the staff friendly but cannot justify how expensive it was.
Always great service with fresh high quality food.
I would not recommend sitting downstairs in basement, no atmosphere. Service was very strange, we asked to see the sommelier as we were ordering our food food and were served our first course before the sommelier even came to speak with us.
Very disappointing for a restaurant of this calibre, we should not have been served first course before drinks were appropriately ordered and served. The first course was a warm dish so it was not as enjoyable as it should have been.
Food was outstanding. Wine list is good. Atmosphere disappointing.
Food is outstanding however drinks are a little pricey.
We love the Japanese cuisine. Everything was beautiful. Only thing is we had to double check that we did order the Cos salad as it didn’t come out with our mains which we did, so the salad came once we were done, which is fine these things happen. The only disappointing part was once we ate the salad it seemed it wasn’t washed properly as we were eating dirt with our salad. We didn’t say anything let alone make a big deal as we aren’t like that. And still went on to order desert, it was just disappointing at the end of everything, that’s all
Nice, modern, atmosphere, so my expectations were high when I walked in. We were two of us, sat at the sushi counter, directly in front of the chef. Yet, instead of being offered our food from him, we kept being interrupted by waiters from behind and between us, who served our $120 pP tasting menu (plus several glasses of champagne) so fast that it felt rushed. I did not know there is a 2-hour time limit on our booking and was very disappointed about that as I would not have booked the space then. I believe in slow food which actually for me includes eating your food slowly, while being able to hold a good conversation uninterrupted. If I go to a cheap restaurant, sure, put me on a timer, but do not do that in fine dining, if that is what you want to be, and I do not care if that is the practice of all restaurants around, as I was told. It is not how I want to dine, full-stop, especially at that price-tag. Food-wise, the wagyu beef ball was half raw and half cooked, I am not sure which way it was supposed to be. Sushi was delicious.
First time for the hubby. Love this place. Great food & dining experience.
Food amazing. Price point close but a bit much. Overall very enjoyable meal and great service.
The food was great especially the sushi and the service was really good.
We were served by 7 different wait staff throughout the night. There seemed to be little communication and organisation between them all. We were continually asked the same questions by different staff.
Waited over an hour for our pretty average sushi.
Fantastic food - absolutely delicious omakase made right in front of us. The best sushi I’ve had outside of Japan and particularly special with the use of local fish and Australian native ingredients. Service was polite but not as professional as you’d expect for that kind of restaurant and that price. We had 6 different people serve us over the hour and a half which didn’t feel very personal and while some wait staff were great, some seems a bit clueless and were chit chatting amongst themselves. We had an early sitting as we had a show to attend afterwards and the waitstaff and sushi counter seemed to be prepping for the night ahead, with one chef teaching (and at a few instances, telling off other chefs), which made the experience less relaxing. It highly recommend for the food but I don’t know if the service and atmosphere is quite up to the same level.
Sam served us and brought us an amazing experience. Thank you Sam :)
Food was fantastic, service was initially very slow. When we had to approach a member of staff to order both drinks and food they sent a new waitperson whose service was immaculate. We'll definitely be back!
I would recommend Kisume for the most incredible overall experience. The food was amazing. The only downfall was that I had asked the waitress to suggest a fruity/sweet cocktail. As we believed she had the best knowledge we took her word for the the suggestion. When we received our cocktails they were definetley not sweet or fruity even though the waitress said they were (she was repeatedly asked).
Service was great however food was pretty ordinary. Ordered all the signature dishes that was recommended by my friend whose been a few times and I'm sad to say they were all pretty basic. Presentation was top notch but flavours were basic. Would rather eat Sushi Sushi. Nothing special.
Absolutely delicious, was a beautiful evening. Sat at the restaurant on ground floor and was perfectly arranged.
The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We sat on the counter and watched as each dish was intricately plated by the skilled chefs. Wonderful experience and will come back soon
Food was outstanding. Had a few issues with our drinks twice not being put through but both times were taken off the bill which was a thoughtful offer.
Fishes weren’t fresh.
Stir fry too oily.
Not worth it.
Food was just OK.. chefs didn’t look organised or as professional compared to other restaurants.
What an amazing experience - Japanese fine dinning with a modern and ever so melbourne feel to it! We loved every dish and a selection of cocktails too - fantastic night out.
Absolutely beautiful food and outstanding service. We will definitely be returning!
Regrettably, we experienced very poor service at Kisume.
Firstly, the ceiling above our table was dripping - when we politely alerted the staff there was no apology but an attitude that we were inconveniencing them (we didn't even ask to move, simply letting them know).
Secondly, the menu was not explained to us despite specifically asking how we should go about ordering for the group - the waitress instead read the menu from top to bottom as if we were incapable of doing so ourselves. The waitress then looked at us with disdain when we asked some simple questions about some ingredients on the menu.
Finally, as if a comedy of errors, the wrong food came to our table, and the waitress again offered no apology but insisted it was what we ordered (when we had been quite clear). Upon leaving we were completely ignored despite our best attempts to offer a warm conclusion.
The food was of a high quality, but the staff acted as if it were the 90s, and it were still appropriate to treat customers with an air of pretension as if they were lucky to be through the door. No warmth, authenticity or narrative behind the concept - and overall very disappointing.
