Find us in the heart of Flinders Lane, a stones throw from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square, and discover three levels of dining. Our modern sushi bar and restaurant sit in the basement and ground floor, while Kuro Kisumé sits discreetly on the first level. Kuro, our most bespoke experience, encompasses The Table, two private dining rooms, an elegant Chablis bar and Winewall specially-curated by Philip Rich.
The tasting platter was an excellent choice. Highly recommended
We have been regular lunch and dinner guests at Kisume and Sunday’s lunch was so disappointing. The menu has changed to be very small and doesn’t reflect a fine diner of the price. The food came out in a disorderly and just plain wrong order. We shan’t be back for lunch. We will review the dinner menu before booking for dinner in the future. A real shame.
Amazing food well worth the price. Perfect vibe for a great night
Service was very poor; food was nice enough but not great value for the price.
This place was okay but very expensive.
It was a shame and perhaps I had high expectations. The lobster tempura was over cooked, however the kingfish, flathead and scampi dished were very tasty.
It was an absolutely incredible experience for my wife and I. The food was magnificent and mouth watering. We were left full at the end of the night with the generous serves. I will definitely be visiting again in the coming months.
The chef was amazing but the waitstaff were very slow and lacked attention. Had to ask multiple times for our drinks and even ended up getting charged twice for them. It was well into our first course before they even turned up.
Exceeded expectation - food is an artwork and the flavour of food outstanding! A real treat. Great atmosphere and fabulous service
The food was fantastic, we got the set menu, and every dish was great. However unfortunately the service was disappointing. I can't think of a single instance where we were approached and asked if we wanted anything, we had to flag down wait staff every time. Also two separate drink orders were lost and we had to chase them down (again, flagging down wait staff).
The food was reasonably priced for the quality, but wouldn't return.
My Boyfriend and I went here for Valentines and we thoroughly enjoyed the food and our cocktails! Everything was delicious and I don’t think there was one dish we didn’t like. I highly recommend sitting at the counter because we loved watching them make the food! Also I loved that I left the restaurant feeling loved, happy and incredibly full the amount I spent! 10/10 I loved it!
Kisume provided a culinary experience that exceeded expectations. From their kingfisher sashimi with truffle to their beef sirloin with foie grae, each dish was presented amazingly and tasted outstanding.
Kisume was definitely what I expected. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. The people were insanely friendly and great at explaining each item that came out.
The food was amazing and although a bit pricey, we got quite a bit of food for a set menu (it was Valentine’s Day after all).
I would definitely return for other special occasions or a nice date night.
I've been to Kisume before at the Chef's table and definitely recommend that but for Valentine's day set menu I didn't have the same expectations. Entree was fantastic. The sushi/sashimi combo for second course was very average. The mains were good but kind of sweet. Dessert was good. Service from one server was excellent but the rest were mediocre.
Have always wanted to dine here and my expectations were met. Everything from the food to the ambience was super and my partner and I enjoyed everything that was presented. Will return.
The host was not friendly. She made us wait to be seated whereas another couple walked in and she sat them straight away. Must be because they are white and we are asians. She was not friendly too.
Food was amazing - sitting at the counter watching the chefs was a wonderful experience. We were recommended the wagyu truffles by some friends and it was worth the experience.
Service was a letdown during the meal - waitress was very unsure about wine list, dish ordered was not processed and there was confusion around omakase menu with us missing 2 dishes in the Omakase.
Regardless of the service - would still recommend and return due to the quality of the food.
Perfect service, delicious food. Especially tuna features and desserts
First time visit, food presentation very good. Chef will tell you the ingredients where from makes more meaningful.
As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted warmly and the service was fantastic throughout the whole night. My partner and I tried the Tasting Menu, which was a good choice for us as it allowed us to try a wide variety of the food there. We thought all of it was excellent, and were particularly impressed by the salmon sashimi and the tenderloin. The dessert came out with a Happy Anniversary note on the chocolate, which was a very sweet touch, and we appreciated it immensely. It elevated our dinner from ordinary to special.
We had a great night. Started in the bar with the house Martini - I would highly recommend!
We had dinner down stairs, every course was delicious!
The staff were attentive and friendly :)
Fantastic experience. Quite expensive however perfect for those special occasion
Amazing as also, tempura lobster was outstanding for only 55 dollars
It is a real pleasure to enjoy a meal at Kisume. The food is amazing and the presentation even better.
Great place, enjoyed the whole experience from the food to the staff to the total ambience
Kisume was recommended to me by a friend and it didn’t disappoint. Food and service was excellent.
Superb food and excellent service. We tried the Chef’s choice and it was excellent.
Absolutely outstanding Japanese food and very kind staff. Loved it!
From being greeted at the door by a warm hostess, to being seated at the bar and then enjoying quality food and wine, Kisume is absolutely on point. The sushi chefs are some of the finest and the sushi itself is the best I have had in this country.
Looking forward already to my next visit.
Food was good but service a little slow.
Dessert was good .
Information on food was good and detailed .
Disappointing and overpriced. Food was ok but certainly not exceptional. Service was very good. Air conditioner was too cold. Not a great atmosphere.
Delicious meal with excellent service and a dining room quiet enough that we could hear each other, not having to shout. Outstanding wine list.
overpriced excuse for a Japanese Restaurant. They cannot decide what type of restaurant they want to be. Merely a scene place with mediocre food
Superb, VERY well prepared and presented dishes. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Loved it :)
Service was great. Ambience was great too. Dessert on the tasting menu was disappointing. Steak with with Foie Gras was a little chewy but flavours were great. Value for the tasing menu was acceptable.
Not acceptable for "fine dining". Main concerns were 1) The meat was clearly grain-fed (it had no flavour and this is completely unacceptable for a fine dining Japanese restaurant). 2) the waiters had no idea about the food e.g. we asked about umeshu and specifically asked if it was more of a dessert wine or a pre-dinner drink; they said "whenever is fine"; so we ordered it to start with but it very much tasted like a dessert wine. 3) out of the 5 meals we had, 3 of them were very underwhelming. This is not acceptable in this price range and in a city like Melbourne where there are so many amazing options. I won't be back. Nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Excellent service, great cocktails and wine list. Fantastic food- delicious and beautiful presentation.
Beautiful experience throughout. Thank you to the team at Kisume
Great presentation and good food in nice surrounds. Quite pricey, not for everyday visit.
Best sushi I’ve ever had, really outstanding
