Find us in the heart of Flinders Lane, a stones throw from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square, and discover three levels of dining. Our modern sushi bar and restaurant sit in the basement and ground floor, while Kuro Kisumé sits discreetly on the first level. Kuro, our most bespoke experience, encompasses The Table, two private dining rooms, an elegant Chablis bar and Winewall specially-curated by Philip Rich.
The host was not friendly. She made us wait to be seated whereas another couple walked in and she sat them straight away. Must be because they are white and we are asians. She was not friendly too.
Food was amazing - sitting at the counter watching the chefs was a wonderful experience. We were recommended the wagyu truffles by some friends and it was worth the experience.
Service was a letdown during the meal - waitress was very unsure about wine list, dish ordered was not processed and there was confusion around omakase menu with us missing 2 dishes in the Omakase.
Regardless of the service - would still recommend and return due to the quality of the food.
Perfect service, delicious food. Especially tuna features and desserts
As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted warmly and the service was fantastic throughout the whole night. My partner and I tried the Tasting Menu, which was a good choice for us as it allowed us to try a wide variety of the food there. We thought all of it was excellent, and were particularly impressed by the salmon sashimi and the tenderloin. The dessert came out with a Happy Anniversary note on the chocolate, which was a very sweet touch, and we appreciated it immensely. It elevated our dinner from ordinary to special.
We had a great night. Started in the bar with the house Martini - I would highly recommend!
We had dinner down stairs, every course was delicious!
The staff were attentive and friendly :)
Fantastic experience. Quite expensive however perfect for those special occasion
Amazing as also, tempura lobster was outstanding for only 55 dollars
It is a real pleasure to enjoy a meal at Kisume. The food is amazing and the presentation even better.
Great place, enjoyed the whole experience from the food to the staff to the total ambience
Kisume was recommended to me by a friend and it didn’t disappoint. Food and service was excellent.
Superb food and excellent service. We tried the Chef’s choice and it was excellent.
Absolutely outstanding Japanese food and very kind staff. Loved it!
From being greeted at the door by a warm hostess, to being seated at the bar and then enjoying quality food and wine, Kisume is absolutely on point. The sushi chefs are some of the finest and the sushi itself is the best I have had in this country.
Looking forward already to my next visit.
Food was good but service a little slow.
Dessert was good .
Information on food was good and detailed .
Disappointing and overpriced. Food was ok but certainly not exceptional. Service was very good. Air conditioner was too cold. Not a great atmosphere.
Delicious meal with excellent service and a dining room quiet enough that we could hear each other, not having to shout. Outstanding wine list.
overpriced excuse for a Japanese Restaurant. They cannot decide what type of restaurant they want to be. Merely a scene place with mediocre food
Superb, VERY well prepared and presented dishes. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Loved it :)
Service was great. Ambience was great too. Dessert on the tasting menu was disappointing. Steak with with Foie Gras was a little chewy but flavours were great. Value for the tasing menu was acceptable.
Not acceptable for "fine dining". Main concerns were 1) The meat was clearly grain-fed (it had no flavour and this is completely unacceptable for a fine dining Japanese restaurant). 2) the waiters had no idea about the food e.g. we asked about umeshu and specifically asked if it was more of a dessert wine or a pre-dinner drink; they said "whenever is fine"; so we ordered it to start with but it very much tasted like a dessert wine. 3) out of the 5 meals we had, 3 of them were very underwhelming. This is not acceptable in this price range and in a city like Melbourne where there are so many amazing options. I won't be back. Nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Excellent service, great cocktails and wine list. Fantastic food- delicious and beautiful presentation.
Beautiful experience throughout. Thank you to the team at Kisume
Great presentation and good food in nice surrounds. Quite pricey, not for everyday visit.
Best sushi I’ve ever had, really outstanding
We were so happy with the food. I cannot say shellfish and this was definatley not a problem for the chefs to deal with. I did not feel like I was missin out!
Food was great, service was excellent, but noisy
Hands down the best Japanese my boyfriend and I have ever had!
Recommend to any sashimi lovers, the quality was outstanding and well worth the pricetag.
Will definetely return when visiting Melbourne next.
Great restaurant, great food. Will be back numerous times!
2nd visit to Kisume with 2 friends. Went with the $88 banquet option. Everything was excellent and all the entrees came out to accommodate 3 people. Was disappointed that the 2 x mains were the same size for 2 people (my previous visit with my girlfriend). Not much on the plate between 3 people. Apart from that everything was excellent. Highly recommend
We thought it was the best Japanese outside of Japan
Very expensive for what you get. Food was nice but not worth the money
Table at the bar. Great to watch the action. Good variety of food.
I booked this restaurant for a friends birthday. The location,. decor and food were all great. I am vegetarian and had the veg sushi rolls and cauliflower salad which i really enjoyed. Would recommend!
Ambient and classy dining in a relaxed and well-staffed environment, with a flair of understated elegance. Staff were very helpful.
Prices were slightly prohibitive and would only return on special occasions. Cocktails were too expensive to try but would have made a perfect pre-meal drink. Went for the whiskey flight instead!
Overall a very enjoyable and memorable slow dining experience
Most of the food was delicious however the crumbed flathead was over cooked and lacked flavour particularly at that price point. Service was slow and wait staff were unattentive. Yet we’re very attentive to the high profile ex tennis player walked in.We had to wave them down for service. Great for fresh sushi and sashimi. Perhaps we got them in a bad night.
We tried counter seats for sushi omakase. Foods were great and fresh. Chef was friendly and presented every single sushi when he served them. Price was reasonable for the quality foods. I’d love to go back when I visit melb again
Found kisume disappointing- service was at best only average, food ok but not particularly outstanding given the overall cost and all the hype about the restaurant.
The food and service is fantastic. The portion sizes were a bit on the small side and the pricing was also up there.
I would however recommend this place for a special occasion or if you need to impress.
A truly special evening was enjoyed by all, the Kisume x Four Pillars gin was beautiful and the assorted box of sushi, sashimi and others was great way to try and test many things. Service was incredible and the atmosphere was perfect for a glamorous occasion.
Wonderful service. The food is beautifully presented and an experience. The non alcoholic beverage choices are limited and the prices are high.
