Kisumé, a pure obsession with beauty - is a contemporary experience that’s built on duality. It’s where the traditionalist and the modern artist meet. Our cuisine draws on the purity of Japanese food culture and injects it with a uniquely Australian sensibility. Here, each visit will be different from the last: Kisumé is a journey that constantly evolves.

Find us in the heart of Flinders Lane, a stones throw from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square, and discover three levels of dining. Our modern sushi bar and restaurant sit in the basement and ground floor, while Kuro Kisumé sits discreetly on the first level. Kuro, our most bespoke experience, encompasses The Table, two private dining rooms, an elegant Chablis bar and Winewall specially-curated by Philip Rich.

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had on flinders lane. Made a booking for 9pm and we weren’t seated until 9.50pm. Before we were seated they held us in the bar upstairs (which we also had to wait for by the way, standing by the stairs for 15 minutes). Once we were seated, we ordered the tasting menu, 3 meals came at once and then none for half an hour. We were told the kitchen was closing before our main course had even arrived. Staff were not attentive and we had about 6 pass us each time before they would fill our glass or take dirty plates away. We had a spill and it took 20 minutes for them to clean it.

Great food but the service was worse than McDonald’s. Will never be eating here again, there are so many more efficiently run places on Flinders Lane. DO NOT EAT HERE! You will spend 4 hours of your life waiting, and let’s be real, tough steak is not even worth 10 minutes of your time.

We loved the food and the atmosphere.
However our waitress left much lacking. We struggled to get service and had to ask to order food. When we ordering there was some hestitation and she quickly asked can I come back in five minutes after we had been waiting 40 mins to order. When asked advice between two dishes she explain other dishes and stated well I don’t like rice. Felt as if she didn’t have the knowledge of the menu.
When the food arrived and we had finished our cocktails we had To hail down a passing waiter to get a bottle of wine. Again we had to ask the waitress to fill up the wine throughout the meal.
Honestly, loved the food and would recommend it to friends however feel a bit discouraged by the lack of attentiveness and care provided by our wait staff.

I'm visiting from Sydney, and we were running late due to traffic... the team was still very friendly, and extremely accommodating. We were told they would need the table by 8.30pm, which would have meant cutting our dining experience time.
We were on our first date... and not once did we ever feel rushed, we were watching the time as 8.30pm approached, as we thought they would usher us out... But the ambience and energy of this place is exceptional, relaxing, and truly romantic!
We will definitely be back! And everyone we know visiting Melbourne, or staying there - we will be highly recommending this beautiful dining experience.

Food was great but explaination by waitress was ok. We asked what double toro sushi meant and she said two pieces. What it was, was not two pieces of sushi rather two different types cooked toro on one sushi. We thought she meant two pieces of sushi. We had to ask several times explaination of the set menu which we found out one you can only have at the bar table and since we booked through open table we didn’t know. Food is great though. Alcohol very expensive.

Great food but it's definitely a special occasion type of venue. Quality of food was great, but still fairly step price tags.

Service overall was good but at times, felt like the wait staff were hovering over our tables waiting for us to leave.

Overall great experience and I would come back.

The food at Kisume is delicious and the presentation of each dish is beautiful. Sadly we were served by a waitress for some of our dishes who had no idea what the sauces were that accompanied the meals which was a little odd. She sort of shrugged her shoulders and said she didn't know.

I also think there is an insufficient selection of reasonably priced wines.

Amazing, food was delicious, atmosphere was great with the right level of noise. Service could've been better but was still good. Been here a few times now and highly recommend it. Great with a group of 4-6 so you can share and enjoy the delicious menu. One of my fave restaurants in Melbourne at the moment.

Just had dinner at Kisume! Everyone raves about it but I am sooo disappointed! Rushed, spillage everywhere, was elbowed out the way by a waiter, was yelled to move out the way by another and eight course degustation finished in 50 minutes! Wine came after the third course! Food was pointed out what it was by touching the box with a plastic pen from his pocket, so unhygienic . The Food was good but experience 0 out of 10. So disappointed, do not see the appeal at all. Will never return!!! I am so tired of these expensive rush you out places, we have lost the dining experience.

We have been regular lunch and dinner guests at Kisume and Sunday’s lunch was so disappointing. The menu has changed to be very small and doesn’t reflect a fine diner of the price. The food came out in a disorderly and just plain wrong order. We shan’t be back for lunch. We will review the dinner menu before booking for dinner in the future. A real shame.

This place was okay but very expensive.
It was a shame and perhaps I had high expectations. The lobster tempura was over cooked, however the kingfish, flathead and scampi dished were very tasty.

The food was fantastic, we got the set menu, and every dish was great. However unfortunately the service was disappointing. I can't think of a single instance where we were approached and asked if we wanted anything, we had to flag down wait staff every time. Also two separate drink orders were lost and we had to chase them down (again, flagging down wait staff).

The food was reasonably priced for the quality, but wouldn't return.

My Boyfriend and I went here for Valentines and we thoroughly enjoyed the food and our cocktails! Everything was delicious and I don’t think there was one dish we didn’t like. I highly recommend sitting at the counter because we loved watching them make the food! Also I loved that I left the restaurant feeling loved, happy and incredibly full the amount I spent! 10/10 I loved it!

Kisume was definitely what I expected. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. The people were insanely friendly and great at explaining each item that came out.

The food was amazing and although a bit pricey, we got quite a bit of food for a set menu (it was Valentine’s Day after all).

I would definitely return for other special occasions or a nice date night.

I've been to Kisume before at the Chef's table and definitely recommend that but for Valentine's day set menu I didn't have the same expectations. Entree was fantastic. The sushi/sashimi combo for second course was very average. The mains were good but kind of sweet. Dessert was good. Service from one server was excellent but the rest were mediocre.
