Find us in the heart of Flinders Lane, a stones throw from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square, and discover three levels of dining. Our modern sushi bar and restaurant sit in the basement and ground floor, while Kuro Kisumé sits discreetly on the first level. Kuro, our most bespoke experience, encompasses The Table, two private dining rooms, an elegant Chablis bar and Winewall specially-curated by Philip Rich.
Amazing experience atmosphere beautiful watching the chefs was quite theatrical French wine relish & paired well with the varying seafood dishes
Very arrogant, if not rude, waiter. Food was very average. Double toro starter was less than a mouthful of raw fish and rice, overpriced at $25. I chose duck for mains which was served rare and luke warm. I eat out often, choose carefully, and rarely write reviews, and even rarer write bad reviews. But feel I needed to share this... absolute rip off, I left $160 lighter and felt completely fleeced. Kisumé, wake up to yourself!!
Absolutely love coming here - one of my favourite restaurants!
Incredible restaurant, amazing food, friendly staff. Expensive - but definitely worth every cent. Online booking service works extremely well. Highly recommend.
The food was amazing, we enjoyed every dish, my partner isnt a big fan of seafood but everything she tried went down a treat. Beautifully presented and amazing flavours. The service was very attentive, kind and professional. The sommelier was always there if you needed help with the incredible wine list. We had the kumeu river chardonnay which was lovely. Overall we had an amazing night and we would like to thank the staff for a wonderful evening, you all did a fantastic job.
Excellent food and service, some of the best Japanese food we have had.
Great meal! Thank you! We were early, so noise was not an issue. We finished around 6:45 pm, and noise seemed bearable then. Best Japanese food since we were in Japan! Watching your food preparation was a joy. We will be back with friends!
Over rated and overpriced. A food standard, both preparation and presentation, that one would not expect to find in a central Melbourne, Japanese restaurant. So bad that I felt foolish paying the bill. I should have asked for the manager and would have, had I not had guests dining with us. Never again.
Excellent food and venue. Service was great . Gobsmacked to have chosen “sparkling” water and be whacked with $12 a bottle. Bit of a joke which when coming to pay the bill leaves a disappointing edge to evening
The food is just about passable. Truffle balls were good. Gyoza was a deep fried mess. Sushi and especially tuna was below average. Dessert was great. Plating was dreadful and the pricing was excessive. For anyone who has ever been to Japan they would know it’s a poor overpriced attempt.
Price is same as Michelin star restaurant, food is just so so. Service is worse than McDonald’s. Never comeback
We were there for our wedding anniversary, truly one of the best Japanese restaurants we’ve been too. Every dish was amazing, especially the Kingfish with black truffle soy sauce. Very memorable and staff were very friendly.
My miso soup bowl was cracked and one piece of it has dropped into the soup. I’ve complained to the waitress but I did not receive any apologies from her. Moreover, it took around 10-15 minutes to get another dishes. Waiting for too long lead to not much mood to eat. The food its also normal by the way.
Food was incredible - service was amazing - definitely go, if they could do something better it would be to improve the bathrooms - its unisex and at the time I went it wasnt overly clean :)
Excellent restaurant, food delicious but service needs to improve for a fine dining restaurant
felt the service was inattentive and not relaxed (defying expectations at a premium venue). while the spectacle of sitting at the sushi counter is always impressive, there is not the reverence or intimate atmosphere achieved at minimashima. the food was good and interesting but not memorable
Thank You for having us! This was the most amazing dining experience, with food prepared and presented in the most authentic, modern Japanese way. It was sensational.
I would recommend Kisume to every diner that wishes to appreciate the art of clever food.
Such a beautiful restaurant, the staff were lovely from the moment we arrived. Wonderful way to celebrate a birthday! This time round we ordered one of the feed me packages instead of items from the menu - there was soooo much food and all was delicious. Thank-you Kisume!
I showed a photo of a nigiri I got over a year ago and the chef was more than happy to make it for us. Great service and amazing food.
Second time visiting Kisume and it did not disappoint! All 4 of us got the chefs menu and were super accommodating for our friend who wasn't big on raw seafood. Seasonal cocktails I could have ordered many more but with the amazing selection of wine I had to try it all. Was all topped off with a beautiful little happy birthday inscribed dessert. Thank you again for how service should be and amazing food overall
One of the best dining experiences of my life. Exceptional food, seamless service. I cannot wait to return.
although we enjoyed our meal. It was lacking some wow factor, the staff whilst lovely really didn't engage with us on the menu or food. As we hadn't been before this would have been of benefit I believe.
Excellent food, service was good. I would recommend this restaurant
We wanted a table for 2 to celebrate my partner's 40th birthday.Disappointingly, We were put on a bench overlooking kitchen, asked was their an occasion?...and that's was that for the night!
It was all too mechanical..
Overrated, we went elsewhere to celebrate with signature cocktails and desserts.
The food was ok, it wasn't exciting or different. I wouldn't go again, there are lots of other good Japanese places around. Cocktails were expensive. We sat down stairs which was quite dark. Service was good.
Absolutely loved the food and the service. We sat at the sushi counter which is really entertaining!
Even though it is a fine dining place and the quality of food and presentation is very nice, I felt for the price you pay and the quantity you get, the restaurant can afford to give its patrons just that little bit more so people feel a bit more full after having paid $50 for a bento box! Melb is after all quite competitive for food!!
Loved everything about kisume. Disappointed that I was served gelatine when I had advised of dietaries and that I don’t eat meat. Perhaps the staff need to be trained on what animal biproducts are.
When asked about the gelatine, there was no apology or attempt to fix the situation.
We were here 2 years ago and glad we came back. Terrific omakase at the counter.
Omakase was delightful. However the only feedback I would give is to have all the omakase customers seated together so the chef is not walking from one end to the other - this way the service seems more personal. I also suggest to have non-omakase customers to be seated elsewhere (not at the sushi counter) as I find it distracting/impersonal for omakase customers (or to be situated all on one side instead of inbetween omakase customers).
Absolutely amazing!!! Loved every dish! Loved the service!
The service and ambience were great. Food is good but it should have been better, if compared with the price tag and what has been advertised in Instagram.
Absolutely terrific! My girlfriend and I had our 1 year annerversary dinner there and we both had a great time. The staff were all incredibly friendly and courteous, the cocktails were delicious, and the food was divine. I personally feel the portion size for the price was a little underwhelming but the quality of the food was seriously impressive. Thank you all for a great evening.
Our experience at Kisumé was really amazing, there was a wait for 30 min before our first sushi but that was because the friendly sushi chef was preparing a massive sushi platter that looked amazing. Because of the wait he let us upgrade which was nice. Good job guys
Great food and excellent service - we enjoyed our night at Kisume immensely.
Outstanding modern Japanese food oozing creativity flare and precision. Flavours were familiar but taken to the next level of brilliance!
Amazing, loved everything:)
Fantastic atmosphere, very friendly service and the food was outstanding.
Amazing food, but the service was too slow. If you are constantly wondering when the food is coming out, it detracts from the meal.
We have been loyal customers, often recommending to friends. However, Saturday night was not the quality of food that we have had in the past . It was very cheap and nasty. Rubbery sashimi and at over $150 a head, the 'takeaway' chopsticks was an insult. Laat time ever!
