Find us in the heart of Flinders Lane, a stones throw from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square, and discover three levels of dining. Our modern sushi bar and restaurant sit in the basement and ground floor, while Kuro Kisumé sits discreetly on the first level. Kuro, our most bespoke experience, encompasses The Table, two private dining rooms, an elegant Chablis bar and Winewall specially-curated by Philip Rich.
Exciting menu, good execution and lovely service from floor staff. Booked a table however had to wait over an hour before my omakase meal started. The seasoned sushi was innovative and was fresh and great quality. But I was very disappointed to find bone in my sushi and nothing was done to correct or compensate. I was lucky not to choke but felt embarrassed o had to spit out a mouthful of food.
The service was very slow but our waiter was very helpful
Loved it. Can’t wait to go back. Service also great.
The Chablis Bar was really nice.
Wonderful evening. Tasting menu was perfect for my husband and I and three teenage children. Kingfish sashimi was a highlight for me. I’m not generally a dessert person, however it was included in the tasting menu and was amazing in presentation and beautifully light and left you feeling happy to head back out to Flinders Lane.
Very good value omakase at the sushi bar and an excellent French chablis collection. We’ll definitely bring overseas visitors here!
Enjoyed the food and service. Small hiccup with the wine ordered but duly corrected and no issues arising. Food was nice but a little on the pricey side. Not a place to go regularly i suppose. Would recommend for a special occasion.
This was our fifth time back to Kisumé since you opened. We live in Qld so have travelled to Melb each time. The greeting was a little curt, we were sat at a lovely table downstairs. The young lady who served us initially was delightful and warm. We then had about six different staff bring us our food. The miso soup was barely warm which was disappointing.
The other food was delicious!
The biggest disappointment was when we were settling our bill. The tall gentleman with a beard was aloof and basically insisted we leave a gratuity, standing over my husband whilst he put in the tip amount and his PIN number. How rude. We were quite offended. Surely staff are trained not to do this?
With all the competition in Melb we likely won’t be back.
The food here is amazing, such good quality and flavours. Extensive wine list and great atmosphere. We had the tasting menu which was the best.
Great food, we weren’t sure what to order so started with the sample set which is 88$ each. Price is definitely a bit on the high end. my highlight was definitely the Foie tenderloin, tuna & wagyu sushi, and not of the mud bug with soba. It’s a fantastic fine dining experience. The lighting was awesome as well.
Thank you for recommending the tasting menu. It was perfect.
Horrible service and food took forever to get.
My partner and I go to Kisume for our date night every time and we struggle to choose anywhere else. Every experience is perfect. From the minute we walk in the staff are friendly and attentive and make you feel extremely welcome. The food is always the same high standard. I highly recommend the wagyu truffles and kingfish sashimi. Also please bring the Spatchcock back it was one of a kind. Drinks list is exceptional - especially if you are a whisky lover. See you again soon Kisume!
Beautiful food and excellent staff. Great drinks list and variety as well.
The food was high quality and creative. There were a few vegan dishes which were very good. Quite pricey though. Will consider in the future only for special occasions!
We had a great night my husband and I had been before but our friends hadn’t they absolutely loved it will be booking again for sure thank you for a fab evening
The best dining experience I’ve had in a long time
This was the third time we have visited this restaurant. The staff were helpful and personable. Dining at the counter was a fun experience as you get to see the energy and precision involved in each dish. The food was divine, with lots of variety. The cod and miso is a must.
Right up there among the finest Japanese restaurants in Melbourne CBD. Must visit.
Was pretty excited to hear about Kisume unfortunately our waitress was the best part of the experience, really great service but the food was very mediocre especially for the price. It has all the potential to be amazing but just missing the boat. Wouldn't recommend not come back.
We had the tasting menu. The food was standard. Dessert was not good, just cream with a few nuts on top. Looked pretty, taste below average.
A fantastic dining experience to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary - thanks to the staff for a great evening of amazing food and also in assisting us to match wines/sake with our meal!
Service was slow and bad. We were shown our table but no one explained/showed us where the menu is while the other table was shown and asked after. The sashimi dishes were served very fast (2-3 dishes in 10 minutes) but the mains took 30 mins to come out. We ordered 6 pieces of oysters among the 3 types, however we were only received 4 pieces and not until we asked did we know that the ran out of the third type but no one informed us. Poor service, premade/precut sashimi for such a huge price tag.
Great food and service. A few things were off the menu which was a little disappointing. there could be some explanation of the menu items for those of us not familiar with Japanese food
Service fell to peices was a disappointing vibe. We didnt expect to have to ask for a water glass refill twice.
So impressed with our meal at Kisume over Easter.
Lovely quiet restaurant where you could actually hold a conversation at the table without having to yell to be heard. Excellent service by the staff; efficient, friendly and very professional. Interesting menu with lots of choices so it took some time to decide on our share plates to keep everyone at the table happy.
The char-grilled, salted edamame were the perfect starter before we enjoyed a range of dishes from pork gyoza and sashimi to wagya truffles and char-grilled broccolini. Each dish was beautifully prepared with the freshest produce; kudos to the Kisume chefs!
While a meal at Kisume is not cheap, it is a true dining experience that shines well above the standard of many other Melbourne restaurants. Highly recommended particularly for a special occasion!
We had a great time sitting at the counter watching the sushi chef's create magic. We had ordered the Easter Special. The Sushi entree, Edamame and sashimi were all outstanding. For main we had two fish dishes which were good, but not spectacular. The creme caramel dessert to finish was great. The Sake's were excellent and Service all good.
WOW! Food is amazing, high quality, fresh ingredients. Prepared with flare and attention to detail. Think modern Japanese & Australian touches to a traditional sashimi and sushi. We sat a the sushi counter where we kept an eye on all the dishes being prepared. The chef looking after us was very observant and matched our pace that was required for our 15 course meal. The highlights were some great Toro Tuna, Kingfish, Flathead, Scampi, Scallops and smoked Wagu...again WOW!
Lucky to get in on a busy night but I booked several hours earlier. Initial greet was great and I was quickly taken to my sushi counter seat but the waiter gave me 2 drinks menus and a nigiri set menu but didn’t explain the placemat had another menu underneath. No one either side of me had turned the menu either so I was none the wiser. A little confused I mentioned to the waiter I hadn’t been before and would like some help. He only offered the set menu as an option so I ordered the 10 piece set. I wasn’t disappointed until a mother and daughter beside me turned over their menu and ordered some other items and a gorgeous looking desert. Once I saw the other items on offer I had slight food envy! In saying this the nigiri and service from the sushi chef was amazing and faultless until it came to the closing miso. I did ask for a slight pause as the nigiri comes out very fast paced but after over 30 minutes of waiting my chef noticed I hadn’t received the miso...he was busy serving other diners by this stage. He was obviously annoyed and embarrassed and quickly ordered someone to go get it and spoke to the head waiter about this and other issues from the kitchen that night. I should note I was only 3 diners from the sushi pass and head waiter but he apparently didn’t notice my bare setting or empty wine glass. Whilst I was waiting for the long lost miso a waiter tried to take away the half eaten dessert of the diner beside me...which she clearly hadn’t finished, needless to say she put a quick stop to that! After finishing my miso a different waiter came and said the words I always hate “You don’t want dessert”, I would have ordered dessert and another glass of wine but felt as if I was being rushed out the door (probably because of the miso debacle) so I left. The food was faultless but the wait service was clunky and disappointing. I would probably return with other diners to compare the experience as I felt I was ignored and rushed as a single diner.
Great spot in Melbourne and wonderful Japanese food .. the sushi and its interpretations were all original and really fresh and delicious.. great mocktail options and dessert was also inventive and a delight. Definitely, recommend as a place to try top japanee food
Food was great, I like the ambience too. But 24dollars for a piece of sushi... is just a bit overwhelming. Paid for $188pp but didn’t feel full. kisume’s pricing was better last year.
Absolutely incredible. So much fresh sushi, friendly staff and some really nice beverages. Sake, pear G and Ts, had a great time
Very accommodating for pre-theatre dinner. Highly enjoyable meal.
The food is good but you can get same quality countless other places, especially for the price. It’s like a Roka Akor with bad service. Understaffed maybe?
Best steak I’ve had in years!
Service good, possibly a little slow.
Overall a fantastic dining experience.
Absolutely fabulous! Loved every dish and the cocktails were amazing
Amazing fresh food but it was the service that had me telling all my friends about our wonderful dinner. We were there celebrating my fiancée birthday and everyone made the effort to wish him a happy birthday. One of our mains took longer to arrive due to a function (which we did not mind) but the chef and waiters ensured we were well looked after and compensated for the extra wait time. A beautiful experience. We will be back.
Very nice produce and well explained ... very nice presentation... the sushi chef should learn japanese hospitality and learn to be more humble ... other than that.. this place awesome
The waiting staff are really quite strange.
The lady at the front desk had just passable manners. Of the the four waiting staff that served us, one gentleman was rushed, edgy and appeared disinterested in serving us, one lady unfortunately for her, seemed depressed and melancholic and a third gentlemen was mechanical, a bit like a cyborg. A fourth lady was more normal.
Strangely, the menu is on the underside of the paper placemat, which we only found out by asking for it. Is the objective to make the customer feel confused and unwanted?
In hindsight, we perhaps unwisely opted to reserve seats in the restaurant, rather than at the sushi bar, which appeared far more inviting with eagerly attentive sushi chefs. We chose bento boxes - another unwise decision. There were enjoyable highlights, such as the excellent black cod and delicate sushi slice rolls, but for the price, the food as a whole wasn't amazing. The portions were in general tiny, with the bulk of the lunch for both bento boxes being made up of an overly large serving of endo beans and steamed rice.
I don't think it is worth to have a Japanese Food there because its arrogant service. For instance, I just want a box of mixed sushi which doesn't mean I don't have a taste of fine dinning. The waiter should learn how to guide their customer to have a better eating experience instead of showing their so-called high class.
Brilliant service, vast menu options.
Went for the Chef's tasting menu and were blown away with the quality and portion size.
5 courses (plus a few oysters and a cocktail to start) was perfect for the two of us.
Great table placement.
Would definitely recommend.
