an amazing craft cocktail program and a all Italian winelist.
What Insiders Are Saying
Kettle Black is a kind-of-casual, kind-of-fancy Italian spot in Silver Lake that knows its way around a wood-fired oven.
Incredibly average-bad food. Cocktails were good and strong, but not a good enough reason reason to come back.
Almost perfect. 99% of the food was great, we had some cheese on our cheese plate that tasted like industrial cleaner. Not sure if the knife wasn’t rinsed after washing or what but it was terrible. Other than that drinks were awesome (have the vodka cocktail! It’s so good) wine was great and food was really yummy. Very trendy (obviously as it’s in Silver Lake)
Beautiful restaurant with great food and attentive service. Would definitely recommend and will return!
The food was very delicious and came out fairly quickly. The staff was amazing as well. Very attentive and kind. I recommend the mozzarella sticks and pizza. But save room for dessert because the butterscotch dessert is to die for!!! We will definitely be coming back.
The waiter Luca was a gem. The food was delicious. We got the papparadelle and the cavatelli, and the sourdough garlic bread (unreal). 10/10 would come back!
Friendly service, excellent pastas, nice wine selection, great ambience, and one of my favorite restaurants in L.A.
Great food, drinks and service. Acoustics not as great if you are going to talk to friends.
Horrible food and service
Always good! Always a good vibe. Great happy hour, great service, GREAT PIZZA, great menu, and a great space. My fav spot in Silverlake.
First let me say that my wife and I both have gastric surgeries, meaning that we don’t eat too much, alcohol is a killer for us. That being said, our server comes in and ask if we want to drink something and we said water, she gave us a really bad look, then she came back, we order an appetizer and an entree to share and she gave us that same disappointment look, we waited for our food tasted it and put the rest to go, my wife was sooo upset!!! Overpriced, millennial joint, never going back
Terrible terrible service. Made the somewhat decent food worse.
The food was ok- the noise level was awful. I literately could not hear what my friend was saying
super slow service, food LOOKS amazing but everything is lackluster
Came here with a couple of friends. Sat on the patio and ordered happy hour wine and snacks. When then ordered delicious pasta and salad for dinner. Crew was super friendly and professional. Food was yummy. Atmosphere was fun and lovely.
First time there for dinner after having a great brunch experience. The frozen Paloma cocktail was outstanding! We had a few plates to sample different options - Meatballs were stellar as was the grilled octopus. My only complaint was that I wish there was some more octopus on the plate. Great neighborhood vibe!
Great server who provided excellent, honest suggestions for first-time visitors to the restaurant. Sourdough garlic bread was a hit, olive oil cake was exceptionally fluffy and scrumptious, the cacio e pepe was perfection, and the mixed lettuces was an ideal shareable salad. I loved this place and I can’t recommend it enthusiastically enough.
I really didn’t like the vibe at this place. It was very crowded and although we had a reservation, we were seated on the edge of a booth, like hanging off. The decor was meh, kind of corporate. The cauliflower dish was great. I won’t be going back.
Kettle Black is awesome!! Couldn't have been happier with the atmosphere, food, tasty cocktails, and service!
We were immediately greeted and got seated (had a reservation and we were running a little behind) but it wasn't a problem in the slightest! Had a very sweet lady take our drink order and by the time our sever got to us, we were ready to order.
The beet tartare was delicious and THE GARLIC BREAD!! SO GOOD! Our main server was so friendly and helped us decide on our main entrees and both my husband and I were very impressed. His bolognese pasta was incredible and the pizza I got was amazing. The wood-fire grill really makes a difference. I just wish we had more room to eat more! Can't wait to dine again soon!
The food itself was good, but the service left something lacking. Our server took about 10+ minutes before even coming to our table. Once she delivered our drinks, she didn't return. After we finished eating, we waited for 15 minutes before approaching a waiter and asking for a dessert menu. He proceeded to walk ignore our request, and then we had to ask a busboy if he could send over our check. If you do go, I recommend the Grilled Asian Pear to start. The Margherita pizza was very good. The pasta dishes are small but tasty, so if you're hungry - I'd recommend ordering an appetizer or side dish.
The waitress was awful. She was rude and impatient. Made the experience nearly unbearable. The fried mozzarella was served cold. The rest of the meal was good.
We have continued to frequent kettle black, as it is in our neighborhood, and has solid food and bar choices. Take advantage of the happy hour!!! This time, we asked for the pizza to be well done. This is what is required - we have been getting under-cooked pizzas the last 4 or 5 visits, and they have been floppy and gummy. Instead, this pizza came wood-fired and crispy. Everything was delicious, but the carbonara was AWFUL. Stay away from that one dish is our suggestion - it's not a good recipe for a high volume eatery like kettle black. If you're going to put a raw yolk on a dish, then you better deliver the dish hot, otherwise you have raw egg yolk soup with pasta, which is what we received. And, the bacon was not cooked right. And the spices were wrong. Everything about this dish was wrong. BUT...everything else is great, so we highly recommend this restaurant!!!
Great! The have lots of veggie options and lots of not veggie options. Dessert choice wasn't great but I'm picky and its always changing so w/e. Great ambience and service. Really well apointed interior. The cocktails are a must. A+ :)
Kitchen a bit slow. Waitress was great. Food excellent. Happy hour excellent.
Most of the food that came out was cold... the carbonara and the baked eggs... both bland and cold. The server was amazing and did his best to rectify these issues. It was underwhelming for a brunch. The bottomless aperol spritz’s were amazing!
The food was tasty, but the service was lackluster. We were seated 15 minutes after our reservation time, and our waitress was not very attentive.
Wonderful neighborhood find! Really enjoyed the entire experience. Food was great, service was great and the venue is gorgeous. You can’t go wrong.
Great happy hour, really nice atmosphere, delicious food!
Delish. Can’t wait to be back
Pizza was too salty!
Loved the food, vibe and our server — first a lovely lady and later a lovely man. Only hiccup was the they’re was a slightly long gap between starters and main courses. We were hungry people. But all in all superb!
The food is excellent. The service and the drinks are terrible. Truly mixed opinion.
overall food and ambience was good but the salumi pizza was overly salty
The food is AMAZING! That is the main thing that will keep me coming back. However, we had a reservation for 9pm, which is already late, and did not get seated until 9:30pm. Luckily we were upstairs where it is quieter, because downstairs you can barely have a conversation. ALSO I called probably 10 times to find out if they had a corkage fee and no one ever answered the phone.
Food was exceptional and the pricing is great for LA - service however was lacking. We made reservations for 8:15pm & we didn't get seated until closer to 9:00pm (with no apology or accommodation). The hostess didn't even offer us to sit at the bar (asked us just to way near the front). I so had a food allergy and the item ended up being in the food (so just be sure to remind the servers again when they drop off the food).
I would’ve given this spot five stars, but two service touch points weren’t great. I knew I was going to be early for my dinner reservation, so I called ahead to notify the hostess. She said I’d probably have to wait a bit but should be ok I getting seated earlier than my original reservation. I got to the restaurant, introduced myself to the hostess—letting her know I just called—she checked me in and told me she’d grab me once our table was ready. I beat my friend, and found a seat at the bar. The incredibly busy, attentive and thoughtful bartender handed me a menu letting me know I was at the tail end of happy hour and to order if I wanted anything off that menu. I did order a few items and she happily took care of me. My friend showed up and I went to tell the hostess. She told me she was still waiting on our table. I had to check in with her repeatedly because she never came to update us on our table. Once we finally got seated, we were past our original reservation by almost 30 mins. Once seated, we weren’t given menus and our server took awhile to come greet us. We finally order and started to receive our food and drinks. Our server didn’t come back to check on us for quite some time. We finally got her attention letting her know we didn’t receive one of our items. She forgot to put it in, so we had to wait on it. We were enjoying our night and fine with waiting. Once dinner was ordered, we ordered dessert to go. It took forever and never arrived. Once we finally got someone’s attention—not our server’s—we told them we were waiting on our to go dessert. They went to see where it was, and came back with it quickly. Another item our server forget. She was sweet, but didn’t do a great job this night taking care of us. No type of compensation—drink, dessert or otherwise—was offered. The food is INCREDIBLE, and the vibe is amazing, so I’d return and (fingers crossed) get the same type of service initially received at the bar.
They have an endless aperol spritz brunch on the weekends and cute outdoor seating if you get there early enough or make reservations for the outside area.
Apart from the bottomless Aperol Spritz ($22) and the ambiance / patio seating - you really don't need to come here. Overpriced, lack of flavor and unprofessional service. The waitress spilled the drink all over my friend and the restaurant did NOTHING when the bill came. We had to ASK what they could do and they took a small 15% off the bill. Not to mention the food was also quite bland and the portions were small.
We were looking for a fun place for a Friday night. Stumbled upon this establishment which featured great photos on both yelp and open table. Reviews were also very good. Both drink /food Menu & photos looked great on both sites. The positives- When we arrived there was valet parking. The place is really pretty, rustic industrial with high ceilings.
The negatives -
Seemed like all the drinks we ordered weren’t available as it is winter. . Not for nothing but it is California! Some food items we ordered were also not available as they “ran out” Service was ok, waitress rolled her eyes a few times at us when we were not paying attention for a moment or two. We were a large party. Cheese platter was basic, burrata plate as well. I’ve definitely had better elsewhere. I don’t think anyone really loves their meals. We were brought our bill with no mention of asking if we wanted coffee or deserts... needless to say I don’t think we will go back. Sorry
Our reservation was for 6 people. We were seated at a table for 5 with the 6th being squeezed in per the request of the host.
Then moved outside to try and accommodate us at a larger table. Where we were rained on.
