Indian
Kanishka in the heart of Mayfair focusses on the unexplored cuisine from seven sisters of India - THE NORTHEAST which is - Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura & Sikkim.

It has a food culture that is as vibrant as its heritage and as beautiful as its people. From lanes packed with humble carts serving speciality dishes, to rows of eateries that overflow onto roads, the streets of Northeast India are a gastronomic kaleidoscope.

It is our humble attempt to bring this enchanting cuisine & culture in the heart of Mayfair through our experimental yet honest cooking at Kanishka.

Really wonderful experience at Kanishka. The ambience, music and whole feeling of the place is excellent. The staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and attentive. It was my mum's birthday and they wished her happy birthday as we arrived and organised a birthday dessert for her. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the food was delicious. My mum is vegetarian and had the okra, dahl and chickpeas which were great. We also had butter chicken which was nice. Only criticism is that the portion sizes could've been a tad bigger - especially for the rice and naan as you didn't get much at all with one portion. Would definitely go here again and would recommend to everyone.

Amazing. We went for the tasting menu with deluxe wine pairing - we had a really nice experience, despite the 10pm curfew catching up on us. The atmosphere was the right balance between feeling special while being relaxed.
Service from as soon as we entered the door was so welcoming and attentive. Each dish was something special, and I'd love to come back to try other things on the menu.

Food fantastic as always BUT not Covid safe - large family party 14+people while we were there. What happened to 6 max? Service fell away when busy. Such a shame for a £700 dinner. Disappointing from Atul Kochher.

Always a fabulous meal with excellent throughful service.
Lunch, so expected it to be a bit noisy but it was fine and didn't distract.
1 thing point was missed and that was I did say we were celebrating 3 Birthdays on the booking form and wasn't acknowledged which was a shame this time round.

Vegetarian tasting menu was amazing. The wine pairing was great, it was really paired up well. Ambience was lacking in that it didn't feel like 'fine dining'. The decor where we were seated was like an Indian fast food restaurant. We were rushed due to curfew at 10pm, though this was not the fault of the restaurant. Staff should have warned that we only had time to order from the a la carte menu. Otherwise, service was great and staff were friendly.

I was keen to try Kanishka as I love Benares, and I was not disappointed, Phoebe our host was very knowledgeable and took good care of us serving what I can only describe as the greatest meal I have ever eaten. We had the tasting menu with paring wine. Simply amazing ...... is it worth £110 per head .... Absolutely!!!

I had the tasting menu and premium matching wine pairing. The food and service was excellent. The food was an unusual twist to your standard Indian fare and was a great flavour combination and was tasty. The wines were pleasant but not exceptional. Prices are on the high side if you opt for the al la cart menu but there are cheaper menu options.

We enjoyed our evening and family dinner but have to say that it didn’t meet our expectations. The meal was not Michelin star restaurant standard although the prices are. We have eaten at Benares several times and this restaurant does not compete with the standard we have experienced there, for quality of food or the service. It just wasn’t as special. We will not go here again.

Since it’s a Atul Kocchar restaurant, we were quite keen to check it out despite very restrained vegetarian menu.
However as a veggie the restaurant is strictly missable. The decor is absolutely fab, but the food was definitely bordering on ‘quite average’ and poor service ( we were on table 2.5 plus hours and felt quite ignored to be honest, there’s a nice kinda slow, this definitely wasn’t it, nobody checked if we wanted second round of breads, if food was okay or any such thing).

The restaurant manager lost our records so waiters came to check twice what drinks we have ordered so far. Buy they could t do same thing for food. But the real disappointment was food itself. We really could have gotten away without needing to go all the way to west end in tube in covid times to eat such average food. Maybe the non veg is better but really if you have dietary restrictions strictly avoid

We had the Ladies Who Lunch menu - 3 delicious courses and a cocktail. The food was excellent (not sure about the blue cocktail!!). Breads, rice, Dahl etc are all extra so this didn’t end up that cheap (even with £10 off per head) but frankly it was worth the money overall.

Food was very tasty but very disappointed that the staff did not wear any PPE in the form of a mask or visor, and this made me feel uncomfortable and not safe in light of the present pandemic situation. I will not be visiting her again during Covid!

The food was very good, however we felt let down by the service. Starters arrived whilst we were eating our poppadoms which we did ask when we ordered if we could have them first then have the starters. We didn't say no so as not to be rude, but when you ask at the beginning of the order we would have hoped this message would have been passed on.The pie is very tasty along with the lamb curry, however it wasn't great to be sat left in front unclean plates for about 15-20 minutes despite being finished. We weren't really prompted for more drinks, and we were left sometimes with nothing to drink. I did make a note on the booking that we were out for my parters birthday, but we just didn't feel very well looked after on the night with several different waiters. I also was not sure that despite ordering still water that the bottles were actually bottled still water, due to the water marks. I saw also saw member of staff when going to the bathroom drinking straight out of one of the bottles. We were only charged for one, despite ordering still water twice. But usually you get served a proper bottle not a bottle you fill up with tap water. It wasn't a major concern but just something we wondered.

There also was some confusion over the bill as it stated on their website that they had extended the eat out to help out, however we were informed we were suppose to tell them at the start. Yet when I went to look on the website the next day, it didn't give you the option to choose what type of booking you wanted. Alternatively, when they arrived they could have mentioned that. It wasn't a problem as I was happy to pay the full price of the bill, and they took it off as a gesture which was nice. Overall compared to Benares and other restaurants while the food was great we were really disappointed by the service. I am not sure we would be back due to the service, but the food was really good.

Quite a cold welcome, but staff then warmed up, ambience/atmosphere impacted by being sat downstairs- think they should note that at the time of booking so patrons can be aware that they may needs to be seated downstairs. Love Benares and this place has none of the ambience and grandeur of Atul Kuchers original and sadly a very similar price which as we know is not cheap eating! Kanishka is more like a coffee bar. One thing though the Goat Curry was outstanding.
