Jumbo Thai Restaurant & Bar
We arrived on time and were shown to our table. And then no service or attention from any of the staff. So after 30 min of being ignored (no menu, no water) we left. No one paid any attention to us leaving...
Perfect again. i didn't think we could top our last experience but they did it. Food was exceptional we tried some new dishes and each was fantastic in its own way. we will be back again to try the rest of the menu
Great menu and attentive, friendly staff made for a very pleasant dining experience. Would highly recommend and will certainly be back.
The food here is outstanding, by far the very best modern Thai I have ever experienced in Australia. Authentic and true to their flavours but the ingenuity and flare in their dishes is next level. I have to dine here every time I come to Brisbane ... and it always exceeds my expectations!
Absolutely beautiful fit-out and set up, with service that was excellent and attentive but not intrusive, which is exactly what you want. The menu was well-chosen and the food was very tasty. I'm definitely going back for more.
Good location, the food was really good although I thought the mains were a little expensive. The entrees were good and well priced.
We loved our experience of Jumbo Thai. The dishes we had were simply outstanding and the service first rate. We also appreciated the distance between our table and other diners. We will be back
Fantastic and very authentic food, service could not be faulted. Can recommend highly enough
Food was good but the service was terrible and a huge letdown - especially considering the price paid. We were ignored a lot of the time and had to get the attention of the waitress to order food. Was not offered dessert after we finished our mains. Waitress returned 3 separate times to inform us the bar had run out of the majority of drinks we tried to order.
Food was sent to our table which we didn't order and we returned. Final bill included a dish we didn't order (not the same dish that was accidentally sent to our table). We all left feeling quite disappointed.
Staff are very friendly and approachable. We enjoyed the food and I think the price are very reasonable.
The ambiance is great, however the food was too oily. This applies to both of be dishes that we had.
Loved this restaurant and will definitely be back. Highly recommend
I ate at Jumbo Thai with some business colleagues, as it was close to the Hilton where we were staying and I had read some good reviews about it. The wine list features a good range of whites and light reds to complement the Thai flavours, with a variety of beer and cocktail options as well. Staff were friendly and efficient and the menu includes dishes from all over Thailand. Overall the food was good, but I did find some of the dishes a bit hit and miss. Two stand outs were the starters- Locally Grown Betel Leaf Parcels of Smoked Trout, Salted Coconut Caramel Sauce & Salmon Roe and the Five Spice Pulled Duck, Purple Cabbage & Sweet Corn Crunchy Spring Rolls, Thick & Tangy Dipping Sauce. However a couple of the mains we had (Butterflied Free-Range Half Chicken and Classic Thai Fried Rice with seasonal vegetables and coriander) were quite bland.
We were warmly greeted at the door and shown to our table. The restaurant is new and the staff were keen to show us around when we showed interest in the decore.
Our orders were taken quickly and we didn't have to wait long for our food.
All our meals looked really delicious and taked incredible.
I would absolutely recommend Jumbo Thai to family and friends.
Eaten lunch here twice with work people, both times exceptional. First time was a small group, so we ordered a la carte. We had the soft shell bao, spring rolls, Cape Grim striploin, the Jumbo pad thai (HUGE prawn on it!) and the confit duck maryland salad. Quality was damn fine, even if I wasn't mad about the bao and service was prompt, especially considering it was lunchtime on a Friday. Second time was with a larger group, so we had the express banquet of spring rolls, grilled pork skewers, beef penang curry, grilled, butterflied chicken, greens and rice. The pork sticks were the highlight - excellent marinade & dipping sauce. Service left a bit to be desired but we were one of three massive banquet tables in for (again) lunchtime on a Friday. The staff were still very attentive though.
Pretty decent price point for the location and quality as well. Absolutely recommend.
We found this restaurant on a recent stay at the Hilton Hotel (next door), it's beautifully decorated and on a Sunday night it was quiet and a lovely place to dine, food and wines are wonderful I would highly recommend it
Food, Staff and ambience are outstanding! Excellent choice of food and wines. Jumbo Thai has become one of my favourites
This was our second visit and the food was a huge step down from the first time. We ordered tempura calamari and it was so tough we couldn't eat it. The waitress came and took our plates away and asked if the calamari was tough and we said yes it really was. She replied that quite a few dishes had been returned and apologised - but THEY STILL CHARGED us for it. I couldn't be bothered arguing about it so just paid, we have been telling people this is a great new restaurant. Not anymore and I doubt we will return, the service was slow and we had to ask 3 times to get a drink and our mains arrived cold. It was like I had returned to a completely different restaurant. I don't get how the waitress knew the calamari was tough and did nothing about it. Word of mouth is a very powerful tool for a new business and this isnt the reputation you want.
The place has a really nice atmosphere and the food is excellent. We had problems attracting the attention of waitstaff for a drink on two occasions which was a bit annoying and it seemed that other tables were having the same issue. Not sure if they were short staffed on the night but they let themeslves down with the service on what was otherwise a great night.
Delicious crab curry. The spring rolls were a little expensive for 2 and the soft shell crab rolls were nice.
Absolutely Brisbane's best Thai by far. The service was impeccable and the food simply incredible. Can't wait to go back again soon.
Wonderful food , classy environment and attentive staff .
Well worth the trip up to the first floor of the old Embassy Hotel building
EXTREMELY overpriced.
Otherwise good.
Wouldn’t return though.
Great Thai with a difference ..really different combinations that were delicious. The entrees were outstanding and loved the whole fish. One of our table was GF and that was well catered for. Will definitely return.
Sophisticated Thai share plates in an attractive setting above Edward Street.
Our favourite restaurant - a Michelin star expereince.
Gorgeous food and lovely restaurant
We arrived early for our 7pm booking at 6.45pm, wanting to have a drink at the bar.
By 7pm the restaurant had become busy and we were forgotten about, I finally caught a staff member by 7.15pm and asked to be seated.
Full disclosure - I am vegan and my partner isn't. There were ample vegan options, which is awesome.
So, we ordered and our starters after about 10 mins, I chose the vegan version of the betel leaves and partner chose the chicken satay skewers. The betel leaves arrived first, with about a 5 min wait for the skewers. No big deal. The betel leaves were amazing - so flavorful and delicious. Partner was super happy with the satay also - they said the chicken was cooked beautifully.
The wait in between clearing and the first main arriving wasn't notable so it mustn't have been bad. The wait between my partner's food arriving and my dish arriving felt like an eternity. Eventually I gave up and told them to eat rather than let their food get cold. They ordered the cape grim steak - they said it was delicious but not at all what they were expecting. It was literally a steak with nahm jim on the side. Wild.
I was looking for a staff member to inquire about my order when one arrived to ask me if I received my meal. By this time my partner had finished theirs. So, my vegan pad thai arrived and boyyyy was is not worth the wait. No peanuts, very bland, no chilli at all, and very oily. I can get a better vegan pad thai from Pawpaw cafe, U-Tong in Clayfield or Thai Natong in Boondall. At $24 I was expecting something amazing, it was truly the worst pad thai I've ever had.
We chose not to have dessert as we weren't risking it, lol.
So, for 2 people - one vegan and one omni it cost us $150 exactly for 2 starters, 2 mains, 3 beers, one cocktail and a wine.
For this money, you're far better off going to Pawpaw. I wanted to love this place, but there are so many better options around.
The food was not very flavoursome, and lacked depth. When our meals arrived they were sadly cold!
As always - an exceptional dining experience. Can’t wait to come back
Outstanding as always! The best Thai food in Brisbane hands down. Never disappoints.
We thought the $40 lunch banquet for a group of 10 was a bit steep. We opted to order ahead but that didn’t really save the issue of food coming out at different times. One pad Thai came at least 15 minutes after all the other food was our. When mostly pad Thai ordered a bit hard to understand delay. They didn’t put our order straight in either which I thought odd. We ordered ahead to save time etc but when the waitress advised she would put order in after drinks were ordered and poured I was a bit surprised. I’ll know for next time. Very tasty
Went to Friday lunch. Had the most amazing Thai food. Would highly recommend Jumbo Thai to friends and Family. The staff are very courteous and helpful. Overall a most memorable experience. Thank you Jumbo Thai👏👍
Great location. A hidden gem with awesome food and service 😀
Simply superb! You’ve got to try the banana flower salad!
It is a really beautiful restaurant and the food is amazing. I would particularly recommend the bao and the cocktails.
Only criticism is we ordered dessert and it never came. Will come here again.
The chefs at Jumbo are very accommodating; they were able to cater for my extensive allergies and not compromise on the flavour of the food. It was a delicious meal that was enjoyed by all. Service was very attentive and helpful.
Wonderful space, attentive staff and fabulously flavorsome food. Definitely will be back.
Second visit to Jumbo.. best food in Brisbane!!
