Jardin Tan
The food was tasty and of very good quality but we thought it was overpriced. The calamari cost $21 and there were only 5 or 6 small pieces in amongst the salad.
When public holiday surcharge and credit card surcharge were added it resulted in a pricey lunch for 4 people.
The service and the setting were both excellent.
We had the rice paper rolls and the chicken pho. Rice paper rolls were OK but would have preferred a nuoc cham dipping sause.
Pho was VERY disappointing - flavourless. Would have greatly benefited from lime wedges, chilli, coriander on the side.
We always enjoy our walk around the tan with family including grand children culminating in lunch at Jardin Tan...lovely day
I have always had great food & service but the last two visits the service has been very poor. We were given the wrong mains & when we told the waitress she didn't respond to our comment so we took it that she didn't really care. The food as always was great even if it wasn't what we ordered! Hoping for improved service to go with the delicious food.
We went before we went to the circus performance and it was disappointing
Appalling food
Excellent Vietnamese/French fusion, imaginative menu. Very good service. Worth a visit for a casual meal or a celebratory 'get together'.
We had a really lovely Father’s Day .. after walking the tan.
I’ve been here a few times now and have always enjoyed it hence my recommendation to revisi on this occasion.
We had the banquet and If I can be critical I would suggest when there is one piece per person then the portion size should be same or similar - we were served up 4 pieces ( 2 small and rather manky pieces and 2 on the side that were a good size and appealing). Makes it embarrassing when friends want to be polite and take the lesser piece.
We also were over charged on our drinks, charged 1xbottle rather than 1xglass, other drinks were fine.
Perfect location for a casual get together with dear friends- interesting food choices, delicious tastes, unhurried atmosphere (we were able to sit for some hours) .
We had poor service. The coffees were cold we ordered drinks that didn’t show up. The beef pho only had one small piece of beef in it.
Fabulous for our annual "awesome foursome" girls lunch. A perfect Melbourne autumn day made for a magic time. Delicious food, lovely bubbles and beautiful surrounds with the decking surrounded on two sides by the kitchen garden. Ideal location for a walk from Flinders St station to chat and enjoy the autumn sunshine.
Barely a pass. Service whilst friendly, was just so very very slow. Also, a number of items on the menu were unavailable. Food was a long way from the quality Vietnamese available elsewhere.
7 of us had an excellent and relaxing outside experience and really enjoyed the food. Service was good, didn't interrupt, friendly. We really enjoyed the food.
Good location and of 3 dishes two were very good and one less so. However the service was terrible. We had to keep finding someone to take an order, get some water, ask for coffee etc etc. It was busy but not overly so. We were sitting near a glass window/door And so maybe they thought we didn’t want to be disturbed!
Great spot for a catch up if you like Asian flavours. Good spot to bring international visitors as you get to enjoy walking through the gardens as well!!
6 Carnivores and one Vegan. Delicious food, lots of options everyone. Service was a bit slow but that wasn't really a problem. Some lovely and interesting cocktails. Overall really good value and would definitely go back.
Good food, great venue but ceiling fans would help lower the temperature on what was a rather hot day.
Amazing food and good service in a beautiful setting. Experience was spoilt by extremely noisy large party in restaurant. Would have liked to see staff address this problem for the benefit of other diners.
Great food at reasonable prices. Beautiful outlook and good service.
Love this restaurant and have been a few times now in the last month , great destination on a lovely day , food is fantastic. Service is always really slow and impersonal . Staff seem untrained and never acknowledge you as a person just a bumb in the seat. Really need to up the anti on service and staff inter personal relations . If it wasn’t for the food and the ambiance I would not go back
Food was fine, as long as you're prepared to wait and wait, then when you're finished don't expect service to have your table cleared or to order another drink. Asked for pho to have a couple of things things left out for our little one, but that was too hard to manage as well apparently. Disappointing, particularly given it wasn't overly busy at the time either - expected more from these operators.
Food and ambience were excellent, however the experience was spoiled at the end when we were told we could not split the bill. We were just two couples, offered two credit cards which were declined, then offered one credit card and the rest in cash - this was also declined. A shame this put a dampner on an otherwise lovely lunch.
Thank you for enabling us to make a reservation and when two others were added at the last minute this was not a problem. The food was great and the service outstanding. Have been before and will go again
Great restaurant. Nice setting. Great food. Lovely authentic Vietnamese menu
Always love the food - fresh salads, other meals with a twist. Friendly staff. And last week, a sunny spot.
Great food again . Bit disappointing that even though I had requested a garden table , it had been omitted from booking . Also was very busy on arrival . Will go back though .
Wait staff always attentive and know menu well. Fresh ingredients used and caters well for all dietary requirements
Did not find the meals as described. Literally one tiny piece of crab in the salads - and expensive for what it was. Chicken was ok but not as creative as I was expecting
Pleasant Vietnamese influences dishes in an informal setting. Beatitiful surrounding gardens. Great for families. Fair price
The food was great. We had the pomelo salad, fried chicken and omelette. Very fresh and tasty. Service was fast and friendly. The only negative is that the restaurant is very loud. Glass walls on a concrete floor makes for a noisy space. It was difficult to hear each other talk. It is not somewhere to sit and chat over a long lunch. But worth a visit for the food
The fact that the restaurant is in the Botanical Gardens makes for a beautiful surrounding. The food was very tasty and fresh. I really loved my dessert, Pandan and Coconut, memorable. The service was good, short and sharp.
By no fault of your own, the only exception would be the toilet, I know its used by the public, however it was not clean.
