Amazing. All aspects. I can’t recommend it enough and our bartender Adrian K made our experience next level. All her recommendations were perfection.
Servive was terrible.
It was a lovely dinner for friends to get togethet. Easy conversation with good food.
Always the best meal
Great bar and wine list
Service is always superintendent
Our Char Siu Pork Chop and Burger were made to perfection, great drinks too and Rachel was superb!
We had amazing crab cakes, not on menu always but if on have to get!! Best crab cakes I ever had and I grew up by Chesapeake bay. We also both got the skirt steak Akaushi – Japanese Wagyu, simply the best steak I have ever had!!!!! Yummy!!! Your talking to a guy who eats steak 3 x a week and has grilled his entire life, and I’m 64 best steak ever, cooked to perfection melt in your mouth buttery stark flavor, go now runnnnn, always good sides and it’s all backed up by two great chefs in kitchen and great staff
Shout out to the amazing Preech who is the secret ingredient at this amazing chop house!!!
There were very few patrons at the restaurant. The food was timely but service was poor and food presentation was what I would expect at a lower end restaurant.
the food and service was great as always
the dishes are perfectly prepared
the bar is fantastic
So lovely and welcoming. Perfect food and relaxed atmosphere.
The french fries and the onion rings were outstanding. The pork chop was slightly overdone, but the steaks were great.
Jar has an old-school atmosphere, even though it has "only" been around for 18 years. It is elegant without being stuffy. The food is excellent, with most dishes easily shareable. The burrata and beet salad, pot roast (a signature dish) and the side of purple yams were standouts. Also excellent cocktail and wine selection. The butterscotch budino for dessert was delicious. Excellent choice for a special occasion, or just Sunday night dinner.
I was really excited for this. Coming in, the ambiance was awesome, super hip but not annoying. Clean and friendly. Kevin (waiter) was mega energetic but I was a big fan. Sadly, the food just was not great at all. One filet mignon was overcooked, my ribeye felt like it was bought at Ralph's and not somewhere like Huntington Meats. I literally make better steaks on my own... every part of the meal was underwhelming. Just sad that that was the case. Hard to say if I'll ever go back...
Fabulous food. Great service.
Great food! The pot roast delights. Always a favorite place to visit when I'm in Los Angeles.
The fried chicken for the Sunday dinner was outstanding. All the sides were very good, and the service was excellent. Will go back for it again.
The food was many “old favorites”, but nothing innovative. It might be wonderful if you are looking for that. The decor was really old-fashioned and the acoustics were terrible. Maybe the round table made it hard for us to hear each other because we were so far away. Our waiter was good, but a busboy in his hurry to clear the table sprayed me with red wine. It happens and I don’t expect anything other than an offer to dry clean my shirt. However, it was not acknowledged and that is not right when you go to a restaurant of this price.
Excellent as always on every level
Our waiter Kevin did/did not do the following:
- sprayed/spit a huge amount of saliva all over my face.
-I asked him if I could have my salmon spicy and seasoned and spicy sauce. He said absolutely
- he took our order and 5 minutes after he came back put his hand on my friend and me which made my friend very uncomfortable and said that he had forgotten what I had ordered. I reminded him and he left.
- our food finally arrived. I was starving. My salmon was not at all what I had ordered and I could live with that but what really got me was it was a really bad piece of fish. Shame on the chef for even sending out a piece like that.
- all of our side dishes were incorrect.
- then he came to tell us the right side dishes were coming out and there was no sorries out of him. We told him about the salmon. Then manager came to me and took care of the salmon issue. I wanted to tell the manager all of the above but I couldn’t as Kevin was hovering near by.
- then my husband’s steak wasn’t cooked the way he ordered and it was way too rare for him to eat it. He finally had to ask him to cook it a bit more. His steak still came back pretty rare
- then we were given dessert menus but he wouldn’t come back to take the dessert order
- I finally had to ask the guy serving us more water to take our dessert order but Kevin heard that so he then took our dessert order.
- then the bill arrived without any compensation. Not even the coffee was compensated.
What a horrible waiter, kitchen staff, chef and experience. After I got home I called the manager Renata and told her all of this she apologized but hesitantly, reluctantly and non committal in her response for any compensation. I had to literally pressure her to tell me what I would be compensated if I was to return. She said salad, drink and maybe dessert. The more I think about it the angrier I get. Terrible service from everyone and especially disappointed in the manager who lacks customer service skills.
I love this restaurant and go a lot. It's always great. But my last visit was on a Sat night and it was rough. They sat us about 30 min late at a very loud table in a not great area cause our table still wasn't ready. It was a big disappointment because they are usually awesome about reservations and it made us stressed and in a rush. I also remember the main room being much more quiet but we were in a side area near the bathroom and it was insanely loud. My advice is don't go on a Sat. It's too expensive to be annoyed.
My boyfriend and I had the skirt steak and it was a delicious piece of meat - one of the best I've had in a while. I would say that the decoration is a bit staid and the menu is not elevated - more old school steak house (I mean, there are sides of applesauce and creamed spinach to choose from). We split a heirloom tomato salad which was just ok. The bread was delicious. The cocktails were as well, though fairly steep in price. Service was good and most of the patrons had dressed for a nice restaurant, so it does make for a nice dinner experience overall.
Awful service. Uninspired food. Dirty bathroom.
Perfect in every way. Great service, wonderful food, elegant atmosphere and the best bar potato chips in the land!
The table ordered 3 pork chops - all cooked differently. Mine perfect, one slightly overdone and one way too well done. Maybe stick with the pot roast.
I always love eating here.
The spicy margaritas burned me and my friends lip. We told the waiter and he wouldn’t switch the drinks to a different type. Please stay away from the spicy margaritas I’ve had many and it was the hottest one I have ever had.
absolutely fantastic. without a doubt the best restaurant in LA.
Amazing food, even better service!
Undoubtedly one of the best (and our favorite) restaurants in L.A., chef Suzanne Tracht delivers amazing cuisine every time, and the service is top notch every time at Jar. Outstanding! Love the crab cakes, mussels, filet mignon, all the sides and fabulous wines! Bravo! :)
When it was time to celebrate my 50th Birthday, we had plenty of choices in Los Angeles. I had narrowed it down to three - and when given those three, my wife and I both said "Jar" at the exact same time.
The food and cocktails are simply amazing - while known for being a modern chophouse (get the Kansas City steak, do not pass Go, do not collect $200), a side dish with beans, and pearl onions sauteed in a vegetable stock managed to stand out as well. A shishito pepper dish, quite simply, rocked. Our server's recommendations were spot-on throughout the evening, including a citrus-y sipping tequila for a dessert/after-dinner drink. And speaking of drinks - our wines were perfectly decanted and served in varietal-appropriate glassware. The Jar folks are pros every which way, from top to bottom.
What I love so much about Jar is that it can take on any type of dinner you're looking for, whether it's a celebration, a business dinner, a family gathering, or a date.
With Jar, you can't go wrong. I can't wait to go back.
Food was pretty boring. Nice cocktails.
Jar is a true Los Angeles classic! Suzanne Tracht's food is creative & delicious. There are plenty of choices for everyone on the menu. Fish, chicken, steak, and vegetarian options. We loved her use of extremely fresh & seasonal, ingredients.
Amongst our favorites were the creamed corn, skirt steak, and salmon. Do not miss the butterscotch pudding or banana cream pie if they are on the menu when you eat there ;-)
We ate dinner at Jar recently to celebrate our anniversary. Excellent food, excellent drinks, excellent ambiance, overall a very classy experience. We very much appreciated the wait staff, who were attentive without being suffocating.
Terrific food and service. Should go more often!
Very pleasantly surprised. Still wonderful food. Friendly service. All around good evening.
Food very good but pricey. Service excellent. The decor is "right on super LA". Too bad we couldn't get our favorite veal chop even when we requested it 2 days in advance.
Best service ever
Jar is one of my favorite restaurants. The food and the service are always terrific
Overall OK and the food preparation was good and the service attentive and friendly, but except for the Green-Salad-with-Peach-and-Blue-Cheese starter (which was very food), I found the menu unimaginative, standard fare.
Excellent, personable service. Oysters were superb; fresh and not milky. Others had the tomato and sweet onion salads, which were also very good. As entrees, the Kansas City steak, char sui pork chop, salmon, and scallops were all delicious. We also enjoyed the special strawberry rhubarb dessert and espresso. It’s a bit loud but our party had no problem conversing. We will be back much sooner this time.
