It was my daughters first experience, I told the man cooking to please do the tricks and the chop chop train trick. He did absolutely nothing.;(
This place has really gone downhill.
When we first walked up the restaurant appeared to be closed, but we were pleasantly surprised once we walked in. The food and service was great! Roberto "Cruz" was excellent and made our visit even more enjoyable!
Great food at a great price. Love the chefs here.
Had a reservation and was quickly shown to the furthest table away from everyone already eating. Just myself and fiance. Waited 15-20 min before ever getting to put in an order. Nobody else at the table so we moved to the front of the viewing area and was promptly yelled at by the waitress to "move back...we're going to wait for more people". So...I can't even eat until more people show up?! It's already been 25 min at this point. Oh wait, she comes back 10 min later and says, "ok...other people didn't show up...just go ahead". Yeah, thanks lady. Soup was ok (floating mushroom/onion broth), salad was terrible (soaked in 1/3 bowl of watery ginger sauce), and dinner there was basically NO show. Flipped a couple shrimp, threw the food on our plates, and said "enjoy". Dimly lit, uncomfortable wooden chairs without padding, no activity, and the owner came around before leaving to tell stories about how "we buy the most prime meats and seafood". Right...I wish I could get my $35-40/plate back. Do not recommend.
The food and the service is always excellent no matter how busy they are. The owner will always come out and personally say hi to us on the times that he is there and he is super nice. I have 4 kids and I know that the 6 of us (plus extras if we bring family or friends) is a lot for standar restaurants to accommodate but here it is never a problem. The more people the better and the food is awesome!
Nothing special about this place. They don't try to make the experience special.
We arrived and was told they could seat us but the chef wouldn’t be at our table for at least one hour. I understand that it was Mother’s Day and they were busy, but they should have prepared, or not had the entire place available if they only had two or three chefs.
We waited for over an hour to even be served any food. There was not an apology or any compensation for the poor service. It is overpriced for the amount of food that you receive and it was very crowded.
While the original Japan 77 strip mall restaurant has been replaced, the same quaint environment and hospitality is there. Been over 20 years (almost 40 since we first visited), but the food was just as delicious as we remembered. Enjoyed our chef's performance, although from glancing around not all the chefs were as outgoing. Don't expect a Benihana's-style environment. This is lower key. But if you have a taste for this style of food, this is a great place for dinner.
The food was very good. The chef could have been a little more entertaining for the children.
Waitress bullied me into getting habachi when I only wanted sushi, then bullied my husband into tipping more than we wanted. Sushi was like a ball of dough.
10/10 will not recommend
A easy going to get into hibachi place.
Good value for the money and great tasting food. Win=win!!!
Poor service we weren't even offered dessert. Food is always great at hibachi but was it worth the price? I've had better for less
The sole reason I went was as entertainment for my 2 year old. The food wasn't bad, the service was OK, the prices were pretty high, but the building was very dingy and gross and the cook didn't do A SINGLE TRICK. No flames, no flipping anything, just cooked and left. Why'd I even go? Will never go again.
Always have a good time here. Good is reasonable and the cooks are fun.
No show at all. The chef just cooked our food. Very disappointed!!!
great place for a date, meeting with a group for business or friends. soft atmosphere.
Great value with awesome chefs who cook your food well. We really like dining here.
If garbage was food then i went to the city dump and from a service standpoint just as good as Illinois politicians. All our requests were ignored but they gladly took our money.
The service was great, it was my first time and the experience was both good and bad. Good because it was fun to watch and be a part of the food being made. Bad because we were sat with a family that was completely obnoxious and that honestly took away from the experience. They were interrogating my boyfriend and myself, swearing at each other, fighting at the table, then kissing very aggressively, it just ruined the experience for us
I had couple bones in my chicken Breast almost broke my tooth ! Waitress wasn’t around to even ask if we needed a refill on pop , we went there for the experience and chef if u can call him that just threw food on the griddle without saying nothing without doing anything special while we were watching other chefs doing bunch of cool tricks , ours didn’t do none of them or even said a word besides happy new year at the end .
It was probably one of the worse dining experiences we’ve had. They’re just not professional, the place is really old. I heard it used to be a medical office, so basically they put a bunch of hibachi tables in a medical office, with super low ceilings, the windows are boarded up. It’s kind of creepy and gloomy. The sushi did not taste good. But the food cooked on the hibachi grill was actually not bad though.
Slow to be seated with a reso and then we were seated at one of 2 tables right at the front door were no one would sit because of the cold draft from the door opening and closing. It took forever for our server to approach our off the main dining area table. He brought the wrong drinks and could not be found to correct the problem for a long time. The place is in bad shape with a boarded up window next to our table and filthy carpet on the floor. The only saving grace was the food was very good but you had to eat fast if you wanted it warm. Not a pleasant New Year's Eve dining experience.
Great food and service for a great value as well.
Good service, great chef. I would go back for more
Great food good service and entertainment
We had such a wonderful experience for dinner. It was my daughter’s birthday and the staff could not have been nicer. The food was phenomenal. This is our go to place for hitabchi. We were a party of 6 and the tip was included in our bill. We were surprised that they only put down 12-15 %. We added more because we felt they deserved it. Fantastic experience and very affordable!
This was my first visit and the best way to describe it would be a cheap version of Benihana but priced the same. The chef that makes all sushi and appetizers left early, yet the waitress still provided us with a sushi menu. Once we decided what we wanted, she proceeded to tell us it was unavailable which limited our ability to order only from the entree menu. The servers seemed to be incompetent. I’d recommend spending the money at Benihana’s and avoid the disappointment. They’re online menu is nothing like the actual menu items is extremely disappointing. I would only recommend going here only if you get the Groupon for $30 for $50.
Chairs need to be replaced. ventilation can use some work.
It is what it is
