InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto - Alluvial Ratings and Reviews
The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The room has quite a nice atmosphere (love how high the roof is). The high tea in general was okay, but I have been to a few now and this one could have been a bit nicer presentation-wise. Table had marks all over it. A tablecloth would have been perfect.
We (4) went for high coffee for a birthday and were very disappointed. I was particularly disappointed by the experience given the cost ($75pp). This was the only celebration we had for the birthday. I have been to high tea at other hotels in the past and never had a bad experience. I will not be returning here.
Espresso martinis were very good, as were the scones (especially lemon curd).
The service was not good, dietary requirements and the birthday occasion which were submitted with the booking two weeks in advance were not mentioned by any staff member. Our table was small and the waiter did not take away dirty plates without our request, even then he would only take one away and leave the rest on the table. When we asked for clean plates and knives when swapping to sweets he only brought a clean plate for one person at the table and we had to ask another waiter for more clean plates and cutlery. Tea was served in cracked teapots and made from tea bags. The chicken sandwiches only had one small piece of chicken that only covered 1/3 of the size of the bread. Savouries came out tepid/cold, definitely not hot enough to meet safe food service requirements. The pastries, e.g. puff pastry, quiche, macaron, tart shells, were soggy. We went on a hot day and it was particularly hot inside where we were sitting in the back half of the seating area, we could not feel any breeze/fan/aircon. Overall the experience was disappointing given the price paid.
Good food but not much of it compared to other venues. Wait staff good but manager hovering, glancing at us like he wanted our table and getting wait staff to make up tables as soon as people leaving. Attending for a high tea but staff clearing away tea cups etc.when we had a coffee was not necessary but did discourage us from having tea later on. Not value for money. Much better at the Windsor.
Booked high tea for my husband and I as a pre-baby arrival treat. Something we both love doing but hard with a baby.
Emailed ahead of time then called to confirm a few dietary requests due to pregnancy (eg no ham, no mayonnaise) and was told no problem.
Our waitress was amazing but for some reason the kitchen just couldn’t get the sandwiches right and I kept being sent out random offerings which the wait staff couldn’t tell me what they were. Some of the substitutes sent out were just plain sloppy, inedible or not pregnancy-friendly and I felt a little like they saw me as a pain. Our lovely waitress kept going back and I could see she was frustrated on my behalf.
Eventually we got there after four rounds of back and forth.
The savoury/scones component was not good value. I don’t want to sound like a piggy but you only got one scone (tasty as it was). Savouries resembled party pies and fish fingers instead of beef Wellington and cod croquettes and were barely warm.
Buffet style dessert bar is a nice idea but again, lacked a bit of love and all looked a bit sloppy. Also about a third of the items on the advertised menu weren’t there and the substitutes were not pregnancy friendly.
Grateful to the staff for their perseverance and was offered an extra scone while waiting for the sandwich saga to be resolved, and also extra champagne which I declined due to pregnancy, then a mocktail but was a little disappointed to have been charged full whack (I probably would have discounted down one cover by at least 25-50% as an apology) especially as I had gone out of my way to research the menu and make sure they could cater. In any event, hubby and I would say the value is more like $50 a person not $75.
I have dined here several times and have always enjoyed the great food and brilliant service. We are always made to feel welcome and important.
The restaurant is in a beautiful setting with a very high glass ceiling and subtly lit historical brickwork buildings on either side.
Afterwards we moved upstairs to the whisky bar for a quiet drink where again we received first class service.
Will definitely dine here again.
We went for high tea and it was really good.
There could have been a bit more savoury food, but there was an abundance of desserts. Scones were light and fluffy and the little beef wellingtons were absolutely beautiful. The chocolate fountain was an added bonus.
Our waitress Jasmina was outstanding, a charming ,friendly young lady with a great personality . We had a lovely chat with her each time she came to our table.
Jasmina certainly made our visit most enjoyable , she is an amazing asset to this establishment.
Nice and quiet. Service was very professional but was let down when the waiter leaned over and got too close to me - he had been perspiring and needed some deodorant. Not a normal thing i would expect to occur though. Food was not a large meal but was very good and extremely fresh seafood and sides. Very nice atmosphere and allowed very easy and comfortable conversation (one of our friends had a hearing aid so this is important)
We had guests arriving at different times. The 3rd guest didn't arrive until 8. Whilst the service was great ...the food , entrée should not have arrived at the table until the 3rd guest arrived. We ordered steak for main course and it was overcooked because they probably started preparing that dish before the 3rd guest arrived and seated. As a business hotel .... staff should be able to manage all sorts of awkward situations. Nothing for the 3rd guest should have been prepared until he'd been seated. Not pre-prepared and precooked. That was a disaster for a supposed 5star restaurant and basically amateurish.
Overall this was not a great Christmas lunch experience.
The food was only ok , some of it was really good but a lot of it was dry, over cooked and just didn't taste nice .
The service was terrible, drinks took a lot by time to arrive .
Getting the attention of the waiting staff was hard .
Didn't have appropriate cutlery on the table and took far too long to eventually get it.
At almost $300 each without drinks I left here feeling ripped off . Being Christmas Day I didn't want this to spoil the day but on any other day I would have complained and refused to pay . I definitely would not go back here again and really feel that they did not meet even the minimum standard expected from a luxury hotel brand that charges top dollar .
We actually stayed at this hotel on our wedding night but not sure we would be back after this .
Our favourite CBD place for buffet breakfast. Choose the ingredients for a freshly made omelette and don't forget toast with honey (freshly harvested from the rooftop beehive).
Fresh juices, yoghurt and so much more - including smashed avocado and bagels.
An excellent selection of newspapers and unlimited coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
