Built in 1880, The Inn was at one time a brothel, until it was raided by federal officers. The Inn was a favorite site of cowboys and teamsters, who appreciated the fine foods and jovial atmosphere.
Over 100 years later, the Inn at Tres Pinos is now a San Benito County Historical Landmark, carefully restored by owner, Mike Howard. The ambiance is intimate, rustic, and elegant. It’s country with a touch of class, and decorated in a style that is a reflection of Mike’s personal interest. Mike's grandfather taught him the the art of fly-fishing, and every year the family still fishes together at the Big Wood River in Sun Valley, Idaho. Mike married Mary along the Big Wood River in 2010, and the Inn has become a true family affair. Mike’s philosophy is “Keep it fresh and keep it simple.” His staff is personally hand picked and will make every effort to meet your expectations. The Inn at Tres Pinos is the only four-star restaurant in San Benito Country.

    We have been going to the inn for many many years and have always been delighted in the consistent quality of the food and service. It has always been the best restaurant in our county hands down. However last nights dinner (Sunday) was very disappointing. To our table being situated one foot from a very loud talking group tomthe the overall lackluster food. Calamari appetizer—always a stand out—was bland, salt less and the diced garlic was missing. Huge chunks of tomato instead of diced like always were part of the sauce. We both had the specials. My wife had the fresh trout but it was over cooked and dry. I had the short rib which should be a succulent sweet and tasty melt in your mouth meat, but it was stringy and tasteless. Service was excellent as usual. Hopefully this was a one off, maybe due to holiday weekend.

    The food was great. However, we arrived at 6:15, and ordered at 6:30. The food didn't arrive until 7:30. That is too long to wait. Also, the group next to us was too loud because they were celebrating a birthday.

    Short rib special was the best short rib I ever had. Been there several times never disappointed. Always pleased with the service and the food

    Each visit is a great experience. We continue to enjoy out favorites on the menu and also enjoy the special entrees too !! The staff goes above and beyond to ensure every guest feels welcome and well cared for, contributing to the overall excellence that makes this restaurant a true gem.

    Calamari was great, minestrone soup was excellent, drinks were awesome. The New York Steak was tough, over cooked and dry, which is unusual because the steaks here are typically very good.

    We had a 5:45 dinner reservation we were seated around 6:00 she said when we checked in they were a bit behind so the wait to be seated was no big deal. We ordered a drink at the bar and then were seated shortly after. We were greeted by our server who was pleasant and gave us all the special information. We ordered the special salad to share that was cantaloupe and watermelon. They must have ran out of watermelon because it was three small slices out of the rind (white and green and no pink flesh to be seen) the watermelon was not edible the cantaloupe was fine. Then this is where it all goes south. We ordered our main entree and waited and waited and we were seared outside, it began to get very chilly tables next to us had fire pit turned on, no ask if we wanted the same, went to the car for blanket and jackets. Meanwhile noticing the restaurant was vertically empty because it’s 6:30. Out server had come to our table twice to let us know our food was soon (not the case) so I went inside to ask to move inside and was told they would see what was available. (Empty restaurant) they set us up in a more comfortable table as it was cold and chairs outside are not comfortable especially for long sitting. When set up we were again promised our food was coming. 7:45our food shows it was hot and tasty however not worth the wait. We were not apologized to nor did management come by after she even watched us move to an inside table. I didn’t complain at the time as it was Mother’s Day and didn’t want to have issues. However it’s in poor taste that it wasn’t even addressed. The place was empty by the time we received our food a simple here is a dessert or a simple apology would have gone a long way. Two people and $160. Price point deserve at least that.

    Took out 103 year old grandfather- there was no handicap access. We arrived at 5:20 for our 5:30 reservation and they made us wait over half an hour to be seated as our grandfather suffered standing. They overbooked and were scrambling to seat people. Food good but waited 2 hours for the meal after ordering. If you go, plan a full day….

    Terrible service, food and uncomfortable seating. Waited 2 hours after ordering our meals. Rack of lamb was well done and tough and the pork tenderloin was well done the first time and raw the second time when I sent it back. First time here for Monther's day and I honestly can not recommend this place. Hopefully this review does not get deleted. People should know.
