Ichi Ni Izakaya - St Kilda
The Izakaya style restaurant is a visual feast that has combined modern dining with a traditional twist. Multi level seating, private booths and year round heated decking ensure each visit is as original as the first.
Ichi Ni accommodates a full and traditional Japanese menu that caters to all tastes – yakitori, sushi, sashimi and Japanese tapas. You won’t have difficulty finding the perfect drop to go with your “Tabemono” either… an extensive beverage menu offers sake, cocktails, fine wines and a range of Japanese beers to compliment each meal.

My partner and I had been looking forward to coming here for weeks. Upon arrival the hostess was rude, barely spoke to us and didn't take our coats. We ordered some drinks quickly and our table already had one menu on it however we had to ask for a second menu. None of the staff explained the menu changes to us and it was only when we tried to order a dish they explained the changes. One of our dishes was forgotten about and we had to follow up with the waitress who went to check with the kitchen. She then went to serve someone else before coming back to us five minutes later to inform us without an apology there would be a delay. Even with their mistake, there was no drinks offered to us or discount on our bill.
Unfortunately we were hoping for a better experience, the ambience of the space was fun and enjoyable, one staff member was delightful to deal with but the rest (didn't have a designated server) seemed like they didn't wanted to be there and didn't have much knowledge of the menu or wine list/pairings.
We chose the set menu which seemed to cover a good variety however everything but the gyoza was disappointing. The sashimi seemed like it was cut and plated 3 hours before service and served almost straight out of the fridge, dry and bland. Red Snapper Don and everything else was just a bit tasteless and underwhelming.
Perhaps we ordered wrong or had too high expectations, but sad to say we won't be returning or recommending to anyone.
Our waiter was so lovely and the food was delicious and fresh
Amazing food, delicious cocktails and great staff. Definitely a place to try.
The place is so clean,well- maintained with a nice view and ambiance. Staff are so accommodating and welcoming. You can get to choose from an alfresco, casual or intimate dining experience. Even there was a restriction back then, we were able to enjoy a nice dining experience. Try ordering their sashimi and curry meal they are yum!
Always consistently good food. Service was excellent on a Sat night and still managed to have atmosphere whilst Covid distancing in place. Fantastic
A cosy, ambient restaurant with delicious food that was reasonably priced. Great spot in St Kilda.
Love this local gem! Service is always great and food is always consistent.
The food was sensational but the service was average. Thank you chefs - delicious and creative with plenty of yummy vegetarian options.
The beef curry all three were all cold!!
And it was my daughters birthday
Everything was great! Only downfall was how expensive our drinks were, however that is standard cocktail price so that is okay
Always amazing ..
Staff was very attentive and everything was delicious! First post iso meal out, so we really enjoyed it.
Food was great, with good service! Would recommend
Great menu, freshest ingredients, my favourite Japanese eatery.
Food was great, we ordered the set menu, which had a great variety, size of meals ok, but not the place if you are very hungry, the chocolate spring rolls were a little odd. Wouldn’t order them again.
The staff were amazing, they highly recommended the bao, which we added to our set menu, but unfortunately sold out.
Overall great night, and good food.
Food was amazing. Highly recommend the mushroom dish. Chocolate spring rolls are a must.
Value for money this place is not what it used to be. If you are going to do a price increase at least make sure the food servings are still generous not diminished. Will be money far better spent at nobu moving forward.
Great food and always exceptional service! Very professional given the times.
Our favourite place to go. Food is great. Can’t fault it. We keep coming back. Best Japanese we have had in Melbourne. Would highly recommend. Staff are good & venue is nice.
IchiNi is one of my favourite restaurants and I missed the food during lockdown - was so excited to be back and had a great night! I knew what I was ordering before I even sat down and everything was just as delicious as always. Our waiter was lovely and it was a great night. My first sit down restaurant experience post lockdown / iso and I was not disappointed. I will be back!
Lovely food and drinks.
Favourite restaurant!! Beautiful ambiance, food is delicious. Pricey but worth it.. never had a bad dish here.
Great Japanese and wonderful to be open again
Glad to be back! It’s been a while since I’ve had my fave
My wife and I had a really enjoyable meal celebrating our wedding anniversary. The food was fantastic!
Our first time here, fabulous food, service and atmosphere. Apart from the fact the food was seriously delicious, it was HOT. Can't stand cold food that is supposed to be hot. Can't wait to come back.
As the weather was not looking so good, the thought of providing an indoor option for us was created prior to us attending, which was an added bonus.
The staff were attentive, food was great and the wine was nice but over priced, I would still recommend to anyone
Food was amazing everything was cooked to perfection! Great service as well! Best birthday dinner I’ve had in a while!
Favourite Japanese restaurant, vibe is amazing, I feel so relaxed.
Lovely food, arrived before 6.30 but unable to serve the dessert in reasonable time for 8pm show at the palais.
Beautiful food and very good efficient and friendly service
overrated in regards to the food, more a place to be seen!
Amazing service and hilarious hosts, would certainly recommend. .
This place has a beautiful atmosphere, the sushimi plate was incredible and the brown sugar cheesecake is one you have to try! On the pricey side but you definitely get what you pay for. Perfect for a date night!
Service was atrocious. Food average for the price you pay. Waitress totally forgot a meal we ordered. It was like a nightclub the level of noise. Not value for money at all. I would not recommend this joint.
Staff and very friendly and accommodating. Food is fantastically flavoursome. Oh and did I mention how wonderful the waiting staff are.
My cocktails were sooooo good even though I was doubtful when ordering. So good that I had three different types.
Everything was lovely the food was delicious the one thing I wasn’t happy with was the table was all sticky I had a beautiful white blouse on quite expensive and I couldn’t put my arms or hands down on the table because to touch it they just stuck to the table the tables may need varnishing or they hadn’t been cleaned off with eucalyptus or something it wasn’t a nice experience sitting at the table feeling that feeling put the whole night off for me
My favourite Japanese restaurant in Melbourne, always amazing food here and I love the venue.
Booked a month in advance so was hoping to receive a proper table but just got placed against the bar.
